Your Yorkshire Wedding - March/April 2023 (Issue 59)

We wanted a venue not too far from Jonny’s family in East Yorkshire, and were stunned when we saw Bolton Castle. The fact they could host the ceremony and reception as well sealed the deal! We opted for large sharing platters for the wedding breakfast, as we loved the idea of long banqueting tables in the main hall. Bolton Castle even had decorative ‘thrones’ for us to sit on! Jonny’s mum Jane made our cake – and it was delicious! The top tier was lemon with curd, the middle chocolate with ganache, and the bottom fruit with marzipan. I asked our florist to put together whatever she thought best, with an emphasis on greenery and flowers that were local and in season. I knew I wanted a dress with a high neckline and long sleeves, but couldn’t find many to choose from. In the end I found my vintage Laura Ashley dress on Etsy – and it fitted perfectly! Over the course of the year preceding the wedding, Jonny’s mum also collected flower petals to dry and make into confetti. As well as sharing platters for the main meal, our guests were served canapés with their reception drinks. We also had a dessert table as well as the wedding cake, opting for a pie and cheese buffet for our evening food. REAL WEDDINGS 39
