Thomas proposed to Kate while taking their beloved dog for a walk. Having found the perfect spot on Tregantle Beach, he got down on one knee, and of course, Kate said “yes.” The couple wasted no time getting down to the planning. They knew they wanted to tie the knot somewhere close to home and decided the picturesque settings of St Eustachius church and The Bedford Hotel would be perfect. “The staff at The Bedford Hotel were so friendly from day one and made us feel completely at ease,” Kate remembers. Both sets of parents chose navy blue and gold as their wedding palette, so the couple felt it right to continue this family tradition. It also tied in beautifully with Thomas’ Royal Navy uniform. The groom is a keen golfer who competes nationally, so they leaned into this with their styling, including golf-themed table numbers and a find-your-playing-partners seating chart. They found other fun ways to tie in this passion too by nominating a captain for each table and giving them a golf visor with a few funny tasks to complete throughout the meal. The florals featured roses and gypsophila, with thistles as a nod to Scotland, where Thomas grew up. The bridesmaids’ and bride’s bouquets served double duty as centrepieces during the wedding breakfast, before being gifted to the couple’s four grandmothers during Kate’s speech. The food and drink had a relaxed, summery, South West vibe. Guests enjoyed Bucks Fizz and Thatchers Juicy Apple Cider welcome drinks, before an afternoon tea wedding breakfast was served. “It felt like a lighter opening for a summer wedding and a lovely choice as The Bedford Hotel is so well known for it,” Thomas explains. A buffet was served in the evening, and it wouldn’t be a Devon wedding without pasties! 28
