With some of the hottest days on record, 2026 has already given us a scorcher of a summer! Whether you love the heat or loathe it, it’s important to factor in the effects of the sun when planning your dream day. While rain can be an inconvenience, it’s actually the sun that can do the most damage. With so much going on, it’s easy to forget the things you’d ordinarily do as second nature. So, make a conscious effort to stay well hydrated throughout the day. This is important for your guests too. Bubbly is lovely, but balancing the booze with plenty of water will ensure everyone stays safe and well. If you’re marrying or celebrating al fresco, gift your guests fans, parasols, sunglasses and suncream as they arrive. Or for a more sustainable approach, encourage them to bring their own in your invitations. Be sure to pack these essentials for yourself too. Additionally, ensure there’s enough shade to protect everyone from the sun’s rays. Just a little extra thought ahead of time will mean you’re all comfortable and able to enjoy every moment. Summer LOVE Lizzie and Callum opted for a classic, British summertime vibe for their big day’s styling Images courtesy of Andy Mac Photography & Filming Lizzie and Callum met while training at the same gym. Callum employed his best detective techniques to track her down on Facebook and ask her for a date, having got her name from the gym’s sign-in book. The couple love to visit a secluded beach close to where they live and on one occasion had gone there for a barbecue and to watch the sun set over the sea. Callum had chosen the perfect spot and waited for the perfect moment. As the sky began to turn golden over the sea, he got down on one knee before popping the cork on a bottle of Champagne to celebrate Lizzie’s “yes”. Lizzie and Callum visited a lot of venues across the South West trying to find the ideal location for their big day. Pynes House was one of the final appointments on the list and from the moment they arrived it took their breath away. “The house and grounds were immaculate, and the atmosphere felt so romantic,” Lizzie remembers. “It was exactly what we were looking for.” Envisioning a classic, summer wedding, the couple set out to create a look that felt elegant and timeless. They built their colour palette around soft sage green and paired it with beautiful white florals. Several focalpoint arrangements were strategically positioned at ceremony and reception venues to showstopping effect. Meanwhile, the stationery and signage were minimalist and neutral, adding to the timeless vibe. The sense of elegance continued as guests arrived and were welcomed with a choice of prosecco, elderflower spritz and Pimm’s. There was a cocktail hour later in the day, followed by a Champagne tower in the evening, which Lizzie fondly remembers as a highlight. During the day Lizzie wore Ava by Trish Peng before changing into Goldie by Grace Loves Lace for the evening celebrations. “I actually tried on Ava three times across two different boutiques,” Lizzie shares. “It wasn’t until the third time, when I paired it with a bold lace veil, that everything came together and I knew it was the one.” The first look with her mum and dad on the big day was an emotional moment, one Lizzie will never forget. Callum wore a classic tux with his groomsmen dressed to match him. The bridesmaids were dressed in beautiful one-shoulder satin gowns in sage green paired with gold shoes and accessories. Music was important to the couple as they were keen to keep a lively atmosphere going throughout the day. A string quartet performed during the ceremony in the church, which was followed by a saxophonist for the wedding drinks who also DJed later on. A live acoustic duo supplied the wedding breakfast music – “The atmosphere was incredible,” Lizzie remembers. A live band then took the helm in the evening, keeping the dance floor full. “Travelling from the church to the venue in a horse and carriage felt like something out of a fairy tale,” Lizzie shares when asked about her most memorable moment. The bride also has some sage words of advice to share with our nearlyweds: “Do your research, book suppliers early and trust your instincts. The best suppliers get booked quickly, and it can sometimes feel overwhelming trying to make the right decisions. I definitely spent a lot of time deliberating because I’m so indecisive! Joey and Danny met via their shared hobby at the Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club. So, when Danny proposed in the French Alps, they both knew their wedding day would feature an aviation theme. The colour palette was inspired by the sky, clouds and rainbows and was carried through the florals, which were accented with a Lego flower. The cake was iced in sky blue and was adorned with clouds. Meanwhile, the stationery, designed by the bride, featured both Lego clouds and sunflowers. Joey wore a Morilee gown, Nancy. It was the first that felt right out of the 50 she tried on. “I was just so comfortable in it, and it had pockets!” she tells us. She had it customised with rainbow buttons to suit the theme. Her bridesmaids were dressed in sky blue, satin wrap dresses, while the flowergirls wore white, cloud-like dresses with blue accessories. Danny wore his Army No. 1 uniform, before changing into his own blue kilt for the reception. His groomsmen wore matching grey kilts. Guests sat down to a fabulous three-course meal and were later treated to pick ‘n’ mix cones. 30
There was plenty of aviation and Lego-themed entertainment available too, mirroring the couple’s passions. Guided tours of the iconic aircraft and the Concorde exhibition at Aerospace Bristol were a popular choice. There was also a Lego mini-figure building station and a photo booth. The children were gifted a small Lego set from the bride’s own collection, along with an activity book and crayons, which kept them well and truly entertained throughout the day. Later in the evening, guests took to the dance floor with music provided by a DJ. The couple’s first dance song was Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga from the Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack. They took their romantic and memorable spin around the floor beneath the Concorde.
