The business stopped producing favours in 2020, when the first national lockdown wrought havoc on the UK’s wedding industry. Available in either heart-shaped or traditional pieces, the favours are presented in a variety of attractive boxes and tins. Invented in 1854 by Victorian cook Sarah Nelson, the company will be celebrating its 170th anniversary this year. “We had so many calls and emails from couples requesting them for their big day that we felt obliged to reintroduce them,” explained Joanne Hunter, co-director of Grasmere Gingerbread. “As we are in the heart of the Lake District, which is regularly voted one of the UK’s most romantic destinations, we always intended to re-introduce Grasmere Gingerbread wedding favours. So I’m thrilled that we are once again working with excited couples as they plan their big day. We have lots of exciting celebratory events planned, so it seemed like the perfect year to bring back our wedding favours.” To find out more, visit www.grasmeregingerbread.co.uk www.mcgowanweddings.co.uk LOCAL NEWS 9
