Fall In Love With An Autumn Ceremony Some of our venues really come in to their own with the change of seasons. Ask the wedding coordinators what they do differently to their summer events. The backdrops are still beautiful but in a whole new way. The autumn flowers, dramatic foliage and softer afternoon light mean your photographer has the chance to use some great new spots. Inside, your guests can really make the most of the cosy corners they might not have noticed in sunnier weather. If it's raining outside, who cares when there's a log fire and some warm canapes to bring everyone together in celebration. Halloween and Bonfire Night are some of our best loved annual events, and you can channel those sweet treat, fancy dress and firework vibes into your do. Now is the time to have a look around our venues and feel the romance of an Autumn wedding. Find the full list of everywhere licensed for civil ceremonies in our directory. Why do we love an autumn ceremony? Well, whisper if if you have to, but some of us prefer the temperature a little cooler! Layers of lace and petticoats, three piece suits - dressing up in your finest can be so much more comfy when the thermometer is a few degrees lower. The food is amazing! It's harvest festival time, so local produce will be at its best. Roasted squash, mushroom and hazelnut wellington, blackberry and apple tart - what's on your menu? Some of the most stunning bouquets and floral arrangements are all about the foliage, and suddenly there's a whole new colour palette to play with. Leave the pinks and purples of summer behind and really lean in to those rich, warm tones and hedgerow accents. The White Barn @Frogmary Green Farm Liz Baker Photography Say I Do In Somerset There's a little chill in the air, all of a sudden. The scent of pumpkin spice is rising from lattes across the land. Thanks for everything, summer, but it's time to make way for the understated champion of wedding seasons. Autumn, come on out and strut your cozy, hygge, laid back wedding stuff. Marcus is internationally renowned for his barbecue expertise and he runs the UK BBQ School near his home in Cullompton, Devon. He said, “I’m a big fan of Mole Valley Farmers and I was impressed by the food offered at my local store. There are some top-quality meat and dairy products and they stock everything you need for a decent barbecue.” Marcus filmed at the Cullompton store using equipment and food from the store including the Mole Valley Farmers’ own-brand cheddar which is hand-turned by the oldest surviving cheddar makers in the world using west country milk; Westaways sausages and an award-winning pickle from Waterhouse Fayre. Mole Valley Farmers were keen to raise awareness of their food and drink offering after opening fresh food and drink departments in 14 of their stores offering everything from meat and milk to baked goods and beers. Both the Cirencester and Penzance stores have recently undergone major refurbishments and now boast brand new fresh food and drink departments. Penzance store manager, Tamsin Thomas, said: “Everybody loves it. THE FROGMILL, SHIPTON OLIFFE NEAR CHELTENHAM This property has been named Best Pub in Gloucestershire by the National Pub & Bar Awards 2022. More than 500 British pubs nationwide entered the awards and each was subject to intensive judging covering overall best practices across several operational categories including interior design, outside space, customer service, menus and drinks lists. The National Pub & Bar Awards aims to put exemplary on-trade businesses nationwide in the spotlight whilst showcasing the hospitality industry’s diversity, creativity and vital importance to the UK economy. Tristan O’Hana, the editor of Pub & Bar magazine, which runs the National Pub & Bar Awards, said, “This is an industry that never stands still – the operators of the best pubs have to be at the top of their game 100% of the time. Our 94 County Winners are shining examples of that energy and creativity. With visitor numbers increasing, it’s more important than ever for operators to deliver a standout service during every visit. These winners are wonderful examples of the brilliance of today’s modern trade and the team at The Frogmill are to be congratulated.” The Frogmill is a stylish and spacious retreat of Cotswolds stone buildings with a 16th-century inn at its heart. Overnight guests can enjoy boutique hotel-style accommodation in its 28 bespoke, en-suite bedrooms. The Frogmill’s general manager, Simon Stanbrook, said, “We are so excited to be named Best Pub in Gloucestershire by the National Pub & Bar Awards. Love at first swipe Emily and Will’s wedding followed a rustic theme styled with touches of blush pink Images courtesy of Rebecca Casey Photography Emily and Will Standen married on 25A June 2022 at Manor Estate Wiltshire. 22

Emily and Will met at Bath Spa University but it wasn’t until years later that they came across each other on a dating app and decided to go from a drink. “Will proposed on the evening of 17th September 2020, on a pier at the Liberty Lara resort in Antalya, Turkey,” Emily tells us. “We visited the pier to take some photos and everyone seemed to be leaving so we had it to ourselves. Will told me that he had an accessory to add to our photographs and got down on one knee before presenting me with a stunning solitaire ring that he had designed himself and had made which was a wonderful surprise - I didn’t even see the ring for the first few minutes because I was crying happy tears!” SETTING THE SCENE The Manor Estate was the first venue that the couple viewed and they both fell in love with it. “We knew that we wanted to have the ceremony and reception in the same place and this allowed us to do that,” Emily says. “It’s a 17th-century manor house with beautiful gardens and grounds and the barn itself has exposed brick walls. I could visualize how our wedding would be decorated and the venue coordinator, Pippa, was so helpful - we knew as soon as we met her that she would be able to deliver the perfect day exactly how we wanted.” Emily designed the couple’s centrepieces “Whilst we were having our couple portraits taken, we kept looking at each other and saying can you believe it’s our wedding day - it felt very surreal.” - Emily andWill REAL WEDDINGS 23

using artificial flowers which they were able to keep afterwards. “It was a fun and creative task for me to do in my spare time and it meant that I could have the flower varieties and colours that I wanted,” she tells us. “We also had an archway decorated with artificial flowers and white drapes as well as a flower wall and giant LOVE letters which all looked incredible.” Emily also made the table plan using a template which was then printed by TavernCreative on Etsy. “All 12 tables were named after cities around the world that we had visited together and each one featured a photograph of us in that place,” Emily says. “Our place names were made using brown paper tags and our favours were packets of personalised Love Heart sweets.” The couple chose an all-vegan menu and a three-tier cake with a dark chocolate and raspberry layer, a lemon and elderflower tier and a carrot cake covered with naked buttercream. “We had a cake topper that said ‘Mr & Mrs Standen’ and we had the names of our cat, Flo, and dog, Teigan, made out of icing decorating the cake,” Emily says. LOOKING THE PART “I loved getting ready at the venue with my bridesmaids,” Emily tells us. I wore a beautiful fishtail-shaped dress with a long train. I accessorised it with a Cathedral-length veil and a pearl and gemstone belt.” Will and his groomsmen chose blue suits teamed with blush pink ties and pocket squares along with brown shoes. “Will wore a grey chequered waistcoat whilst the others wore navy braces,” Emily says. “Our beautiful bridesmaids wore blush pink dresses featuring sparkly belts. “They chose their shoes and wore their hair in different styles that were created by my friend, Lily.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “I loved the speeches – I felt so proud of my dad, my new husband and his groomsmen for putting so much effort into them and making us all laugh and cry at the same time!” Emily tells us. “I’m also really grateful to one of the guests who audio recorded the speeches on his phone. We hadn’t planned to do this, but I’m so glad that he did because we’ve been able to listen to them again.” The couple both loved performing their first dance. “We practised it for weeks in the kitchen, so it was incredible to do it in real life with everyone watching and cheering us on!” Emily says. “We hired a DJ who played Motown and 80s classics which got everyone in the mood for dancing!” “It was such an amazing occasion to have everyone we love gathered in the same room which included friends who had travelled across the world from New Zealand, Australia, Denmark,The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Spain and Scotland to celebrate with us. Considering we hadn’t seen many of them in recent years due to the pandemic, it felt extra-special to have them there.” - Emily andWill 24

A family affair Cotswold House Hotel & Spa in Chipping Campden was the stylish setting for Hollie and Lewis’s big day Images courtesy of AJT Photography Hollie Denyer and Lewis Harry Keeling married on Saturday 23rd July 2022 at Cotswold House Hotel and Spa in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire. Hollie and Lewis met when they both worked at the Noel Arms Hotel where she was a receptionist and he was the deputy manager. “His sense of humour first attracted me to him,” Hollie tells us. The couple became engaged on the 2nd March 2019 in Stratford-upon-Avon. “We’d enjoyed a lovely meal and then Lewis asked me to marry him on a bridge over the river which was so romantic,” Hollie says. Cotswold House Hotel & Spa was the natural choice of wedding venue for the couple because Hollie works there. “My mum, Mandy, is the wedding and events manager there,” she tells us. “My mum got married at the hotel so Lewis and I both knew this was where we wanted to have our special day. It’s the perfect venue, the gardens are stunning and it’s a very special place for us.” Here, Hollie tells us about their wedding decorated with rose gold and blush pink hues and a nod to Harry Potter. Other decorative items included a welcome board, a wedding post box and giant LOVE letters. I made our table plan with a pale pink backgrou nd and rose gold font. I also created our table and place names that featured a matching rose gold font. Our flowers included ivory and pale pink roses mixed with astilbe and ivory freesias. We also incorporated silver eucalyptus, ivy, and rosemary foliage and I loved our pretty floral arch made from pink and white flowers and green foliage. We had the registrar Jean Heasey conduct our ce remony who had previously married my mother and is a friend of hers which was lovely. 28

There was a locket holding a photograph of my grandmother on my bouquet. Our two-tier cake featured a lemon and salted ca ramel layer decorated with buttercream. Our stunning centrepieces were silver candelabras with ivory and pink flowers and plenty of trailing foliage. I wore a fishtail-shaped dress that I accessorised with a diamanté belt and a cathedral-length veil. White iris featured in some of the buttonholes in memory of Lewis’s grandmother. love story Raegan and Jack’s rustic-inspired barn wedding enjoyed a grey, green and white theme Images courtesy of Daniella Marinos Photography A LOCAL Raegan and Jack Robson married on 1st October 2021 at Saxon Barn in Leonard Stanley, Gloucestershire. 32

Raegan and Jack met when she started working for his mum. “Jack used to visit the office to see his mum and we caught each other’s eye,” Raegan tells us. The couple became engaged during a trip to Vienna to celebrate her birthday. “It was a big surprise when Jack popped the question in a beautiful park, about an hour after we had landed!” Raegan says. SETTING THE SCENE Saxon Barn was the natural choice of wedding venue for the couple because it’s situated on their good friends’ farm. “It’s a converted barn with a high ceiling that offers a rustic-inspired setting,” Raegan says. “The local church is located just behind it and, along with the pond on the farm and the beautiful fields surrounding it, it was the perfect place to host a relaxed day which is what we wanted. We enjoyed canapés by the pond in the sunshine and then walked through the picturesque orchard to the marquee, where the sun set behind us. The marquee was covered in festoon lighting which lit up the field all evening and looked so romantic.” The couple styled their day with plenty of white flowers and greenery that complimented the surrounding scenery. 33 REAL WEDDINGS

LOOKING THE PART Raegan wore an ivory satin backless dress with a high neck from the White Rose collection. “I knew that I wanted something stylish and simple and I fell in love with this gown straight away,” she tells us. “I teamed it with a two-tier veil, a hair comb and a pair of drop earrings.” Jack and his groomsmen wore green tweed jackets with beige chinos and grey bow ties with brown shoes. “Jack chose a different waistcoat to his groomsmen,” Raegan explains. TIME TO CELEBRATE Raegan and Jack hired a duo of acoustic singers to perform during the drinks reception. “Their full band joined them for the evening entertainment which was a big hit with our guests,” Raegan says. “The dancefloor was packed until the end of the night creating such a happy celebration!” “We were touched and humbled that everybody we loved made the effort to celebrate with us.” – Raegan and Jack 34
