After the stress of being late for the ceremony, once bride Laura was married she was so happy and relieved, all that worry disappeared. She got to be herself and gave me her style of fun. This shot, as she was driven off to the reception as Mrs Henderson, is now one of my favourites. For Evangeline and Ashley’s November wedding at the White Dove Barns, Suffolk I asked guests to throw the confetti over the couple, rather than at them, which allowed me to capture some nice facial expressions and shoot through the confetti for a lovely blurred effect. I love the getting ready part as I can get to know the bridal party, have a laugh and occasionally do a fun photo with them all to mark the occasion. For this photo, the bride Lanassir and all the girls sat together for some traditional photos and then we went to town and did some crazy shots, which made everyone happy and much more relaxed before the ceremony. Also, be sure to take enough time to get those all-important couple shots. Rather than lots of group photos, candid images of people during the day are a much better reflection of your actual wedding. I tell my couples to drop their shoulders, take a few deep breaths and remember that you’re just there to spend time together. Then you’ll get some awesome organic images with a little relaxed direction from me. It’s not about me leading the shoot, more about you enjoying each other’s company for me to capture. 46
