An Essex Wedding - January/February 2023 (Issue 108)

We wanted Terry and the groomsmen to look smart, but also to feel comfortable, choosing navy suits, green silk ties, sage green and cream checked waistcoats, and brown leather shoes. Our flowers were gorgeous, in particular my handtied bouquet of ivory roses and peonies. The day after our wedding we went to the family plot in the village cemetery, laying the flowers there. We opted for a three-tier cake, in Sicilian lemon sponge, red velvet and Biscoff flavours. It was decorated with the famous white domed, blue-topped buildings of Oia, where I met Terry. We hired ‘Mr & Mrs Wade’ LED letters from Fairytale Finishes, who we can’t recommend enough. The letters made a showstopper in the evening when guests went into the barn. I found my dream gown at Silver End’s Barn Bridal Boutique. When I tried it on even the owner, Jane, shed a few tears! I used a seamstress to alter the neckline, as well as adding diamantes on the waist to add sparkle – and look a little sexier for my husband on our big day! When we first viewed Layer Marney it was wet and cold, but despite the weather we gasped as we moved from room to room! The stained-glass windows, huge fireplace and murals of the Long Gallery are stunning. 44
