Ruth and Dan's New Year's Eve wedding left guests aglow at Newark's Kelham House Hotel.

Ruth Davenport, 27, married Daniel Lewis, 30, at Kelham House Hotel on 31st December, 2016.

Wonderland: Image 1aI chose ranunculus, Norma Jean roses, freesias, honeymoon tulips and snowdrops for my bouquet.

Wonderland: Image 1 I did my own make-up but hired a professional stylist for my hair. I decided on longer-lasting products and lots of setting spray, and of course, the fail-safe waterproof mascara.

Dan loves wearing a sharp suit and having it made-to-measure meant he was in his element. His best men, Sam and Rick wore the same but with different coloured waistcoats.

Wonderland: Image 3aI chose to wear a cathedral-length veil for the day which complemented my hairstyle per fectly.

Wonderland: Image 3 I tried on 18 dresses before finding mine. It was like nothing I'd seen before, the top half was heavily embellished and absolutely stunning.

The venue was simple and elegant – exactly what we'd envisioned for the day. It was big enough to ensure we could invite everyone we wanted to, but small enough for it to feel intimate and not overwhelming.

Wonderland: Image 5aWe opted for a simple cake and decided on a layer decorated with gold leaf, tiny navy ribbons and intricate sugar craft flowers that were the same as the ones in my bouquet.

Wonderland: Image 5 We wanted the room to have an intimate yet glamorous feel so we opted for low-level arrangements for the table centres. It felt special and twinkly – like New Year's Eve is supposed to!

My bridesmaids and maid-of-honour wore timeless navy maxi dresses with delicate lace sleeves. Our flowergirl Aoife looked beautiful in a navy tulle dress with a tiny bouquet of gypsophila.

Wonderland: Image 7aSparklers always look great and for the evening reception they were ideal.

Wonderland: Image 7 It took us ages to find the perfect photographer. You need to love their portfolio and you also need to have a connection with them. Kathryn made us feel so relaxed and I loved her informal style.

Having our wedding on New Year's Eve meant that fireworks worked wonderfully.

Wonderland: Image 9aWe chose a DJ as we wanted to create a real party atmosphere and get everyone in the mood to celebrate the New Year.

Wonderland: Image 9 I explained to my florist that I loved a 'clean, full' look. We weren' t sure whether we'd be able to get the flowers we wanted due to it being just after Christmas so I let Rebecca be as creative as she wanted to ensure it looked perfect – which it did.

The room was understated but also had that wow factor when you walked in.

When we walked around the gardens and thought of the photos we could get, we just knew this was the venue for us.
