Nicole and Alex's rustic big day followed a pale blue, white and light grey colour palette

Nicole and Alex first met at school when they were just six-years-old and became best friends later at the age of 17. Three years after this they officially became a couple before getting engaged in 2013. “It was a total surprise and happened on the first day of our holiday in Sorrento, Italy,” Nicole explains. “We arrived in the morning and later that evening in the privacy of our hotel room, Alex asked me to marry him – strategically before I had my make-up on so that it wouldn't get ruined when I inevitably cried! As I enthusiastically said 'yes,' the ring fell to the floor and rolled under the bed so after frantically searching for it, we found it only for it to fit perfectly.”

The couple decided to marry in the Cotswolds due to it being their favourite place to visit. “Hyde House was the first venue we saw and we fell in love with it straight away,” Nicole tells us. “It's surrounded by beautiful countryside and offers both the traditional house and light, airy and modern Hyde Barn.”

Here, Nicole shares more about their beautifully styled big day...

Our table plan was made from wooden crates. A poem that my granddad sent to my nan during his National Service took centre stage, surrounded by decorative bunting and fresh flowers.

Country girl: Image 2aJam jars filled with strawberry bon bons and topped with hessian were labeled with each guests' name – they made such sweet place names and doubled up as favours.

Country girl: Image 2 We decorated the ceiling beams with pale blue, light grey and white lanterns.

We were both surprisingly relaxed on the day and thrilled that the sun was shining.

Country girl: Image 4aEach table had a jam jar decorated with lace and hessian holding a selfie stick and photo booth props alongside a sign with our Instagram hashtag.

Country girl: Image 4 We hired a sweet cart for those needing a sugar hit!

We decorated wooden crates with photos of us growing up and together as a couple to display with our heart puzzle guest book.

Country girl: Image 6aWe chose a blue and white birdcage designed cake decorated with bunting and bright pink roses.

Country girl: Image 6 We entertained our guests during the ceremony with an acoustic classical guitarist who really set the scene for the al fresco celebration.

Our bridesmaids carried bouquets of white hydrangea.

Country girl: Image 8aI chose the Verdiana dress by Ronald Joyce – a strapless lace and tulle gown. I bought it on my first day of shopping and in the second store!

Country girl: Image 8 My beautiful bouquet contained white roses, peonies and white gypsophila.

Country girl: Image 9
Our bridesmaids wore the Fernanda dress by Coast in pale blue – that was my something blue.

Country girl: Image 10aAlex wore a tailor-made, three-piece suit accessorised with a grey and white checked tie, a pocket handkerchief, a white peony and gypsophila buttonhole and tan leather and blue suede shoes.

Country girl: Image 10 We chose Marry Me by Train as our first dance.

The groomsmen dressed similar to Alex but wore different ties, no waistcoats and had white peony buttonholes.
