A chance encounter at a nightclub may not be the most classic setting for a great love story, but Katheryn and Darren weren't afraid of taking a leap of faith. “Our first date went so well,” Katheryn explains. “Considering we didn't know each other at all, we got on famously. We chatted all evening and didn't hit any awkward silences, which we later admitted we were both afraid of!”
Darren was the perfect gentleman on their date, and continued to take the lead on Valentine's Day, 2013, when he'd promised that he'd take care of the celebrations by cooking dinner. Katheryn arrived to find the whole house lit by candlelight and covered in rose petals. There was a three-course meal as well, with Darren proposing just before dessert.
Of course she said 'yes'. Read on to find out about their day…
My sister Sophie looked stunning as bridesmaid in her full-length, dusky pink dress. Not only did this match our colour scheme it also suited her figure perfectly.
Our photographer, Bruce, was on the recommendation list from Wiston House and after looking through his website we knew he was the one – we're thrilled with our photos.
My mum made our favours. She used a combination of sugared almonds and chocolate wrapped in ivory lace and tied with a dusky pink ribbon.
We were keen to use a lot of dusky pink and were thrilled with the end result.
I opted for a hand-tied posy of white avalanche and memory lane roses with cream single lisianthus and soft green foliage. It was finished with a dusky pink lace ribbon and white lace handle.
Darren and I looked at a variety of cakes and asked my auntie if she could replicate our vision. We had a fruit layer at the bottom, followed by lemon and finally a chocolate tier that tasted amazing.
As our theme was rose and lace, we used a lot of floral displays incorporating peonies, dahlias and, of course, roses into the candelabra centrepieces.
I had my newly married name on the place card – I was so happy to finally be Mrs May!
We found that the small details were very important to us, so consciously incorporated our theme at every opportunity, which really tied our whole day together.
The beautiful church had the most amazing atmosphere, we'd highly recommend it.
