Peaches and cream

Joanna Nichols, 28, and Matthew Hawkes, 29, tied the knot at Gaynes Park, Epping, on 18th August, 2012

Joanna and Matthew first met when they were teenagers, as Matthew was friends with Joanna's brother. As they grew up they continued to cross paths, meeting and socialising in the same bars. After six years together, Matt popped the question while on a romantic weekend away. “After arranging with the hotel staff to keep me in the spa for as long as possible, I was completely surprised to return to our suite and see it was filled with candles, champagne and a diamond ring!” says Joanna. Here, she tells us more about their Jazz Age-inspired day abundant in nude and peach tones...

We both fell in love with Gaynes Park – the grounds are amazing and we loved having our ceremony in the Orangery with its stunning aisle through the walled garden.

Our venue was so lovely that we didn't need to spend much time decorating it. We just added some bunting and pastel pompoms under the Gather Barn. – Matthew

Peaches and cream: Image 3aBirdcages were a main part of our theme. We included them in our save-the-date cards, invitations and table centrepieces.

Peaches and cream: Image 3 We had vintage-style gem and pearl decorations tied to the trees lining the aisle.

My bouquet was a mix of roses, peach hypericum berries, carnations, veronica and wax flowers, with rosemary and bay leaves for greenery and scent.

Peaches and cream: Image 5aOur four-tiered cake was layers of chocolate, sponge and fruit covered in cream icing with handmade edible peach peonies.

Peaches and cream: Image 5 My dress was Jenny Packham's Eden. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one.

My bridesmaids wore nude-coloured one-shoulder, beaded gowns. My flowergirl Holly wore a pretty ivory dress with crochet detail on the shoulders.

Peaches and cream: Image 7aMatt and the boys wore light grey slim-fit suits along with skinny peach ties to give a modern look that matched our colour scheme.

Peaches and cream: Image 7 We wanted a just-picked look for the bouquets and buttonholes to complement our peach and nude colour scheme.

As my dress was so detailed, I kept my accessories to a minimum with just a silver and pearl bracelet and my mum's ring. – Joanna

For our evening entertainment we had a DJ who played music to suit all ages so everyone could hit the dancefloor. Our first dance was Lego House by Ed Sheeran.

Peaches and cream: Image 10aAfter the ceremony we enjoyed champagne and a selection of canapés in the Orangery's walled garden.

Peaches and cream: Image 10 For our honeymoon, we enjoyed sunshine and cocktails by the pool at a five-star resort in Marbella.
