Our meeting wasn't particularly romantic – one of my close school friends married one of Chris' university pals, so we were set up on a blind date,” says Charlotte. “I say blind, we had a preliminary scout through Facebook photos.” The couple had an amazing date which ended with a kiss and, as they say, the rest is history.”
“We were trekking Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Chris intended to propose when we reached the top. But I was so tired and cold it never happened,” reveals Charlotte. “Chris proposed on the evening we bought our first house together – I was surprised to find him on one knee with my late grandma's ring, which he'd redesigned.
On the morning
Chris and his groomsmen decided on a morning swim and dived into the North Sea at 8am, while Charlotte and her maids prepared at her parents' house. “After a trip to the hairdressers, everything felt surreal, but my bridesmaids dragged me upstairs to get ready. After that I was just excited,” says Charlotte. “The nerves hit again while speaking to the vicar before my dad walked me up the aisle to Handel's The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.”
Pearls and lace
“I wore Sienna by Shanna Melville. It was the second one I tried on and nothing compared to the beautiful lace detail,” says Charlotte. “I accessorised with a plain veil, and a simple drop pearl necklace and matching earrings. Chris surprised me with a bracelet, a silver chain with a heart connected by Welsh gold – it was perfect.”
Chris and his groomsmen wore tails, with ivory cravats for the six ushers and bronze for Chris and his best man, which complemented the bridesmaids' dresses. Charlotte's niece was an honorary bridesmaid and wore a simple white dress with ballet pumps.
“We kept the country club décor simple, with white hydrangeas and foliage in tall vases, which were also used to decorate our traditional white-iced cake,” she adds.
The Dolphin Pub provided prosecco and canapés before the reception and Adnams' fizz and ale were served during the meal, which included locally caught Orford fish
