Amy and Richard's summer wedding focused on food, friendship and fun
Friendship blossomed before romance for Amy and Richard, who met at sixth form before going on a date several years later. “We went for drinks in Durham and got on so well we decided to meet up again two days' later,” says Amy. “Everything fell into place from there, and we were together for the next two years before Richard proposed.”
The couple were enjoying a short break at their favourite place, Beadnell in Northumberland, and had just been to The Ship Inn at Low Newton for lunch and a drink in the sun. “From there, we took a slow walk back along the beach,” continues Amy. “There was no one around for miles, which made it a very special and romantic moment when Richard asked me to marry him.”
It took around 12 months to plan the wedding, with Amy setting up Pinterest boards for inspiration and also finding most of the suppliers. Here, she tells us more about their big day…
I used to work with our wedding photographer and knew straightaway that her style was exactly what I wanted.
Having a marquee reception in the grounds of Biddick Hall took a lot of planning, as we hired in our own catering, bar and entertainment.
I only tried on about eight dresses before finding the one, which was a perfect combination of lace and buttons with a gorgeous flattering skirt.
My parents married at St Laurence in Pittington, so I always wanted to say my vows there too.
Richard really looked the part in his three-piece suit, which he bought rather than hired so he could wear it again after our big day.
My bridesmaids wore long, blush multi-way dresses, while the mini-maid dresses were white to match my gown.
I arrived with my Dad in a Rolls-Royce, and we also hired vintage buses to transport the guests from the church to the reception.
Our cake was a four-tier semi-naked bake in chocolate orange, lemon, chocolate and vanilla flavours with real flowers for decoration.
I let our florist decide on the best flowers to use, with my only requests being white roses, stocks and some greenery.
I lost count of the number of comments we got on the day – and that we still get – about how amazing the food was at our wedding!
A string quartet played during the drinks reception, before we had a brilliant band and DJ for the night.
