Your Yorkshire Wedding - September/October 2020 (Issue 44)

Our experts solve your wedding dilemmas HOT TOPIC  MAKE IT YOUR OWN We’re holding a much smaller wedding than we originally planned, so we’d like to focus more on personal touches. What can we include? We’re a luxury gift and furnishing company selling gorgeous silk ring cushions, charms and personal trinkets. Incorporating sentimental touches into your wedding will ensure that you have extra memories and keepsakes of the day. These are lovely things to photograph and will touch your guests too. Here are three ideas… ❤ A handwritten letter . This will never go out of style; handwriting is part of someone’s identity and is instantly recognisable to the recipient. We make silk cushions adorned with antique ribbons with a secret pocket containing a notebook and pen for you to exchange heartfelt messages. You could send one to your loved one on the wedding morning to show how much you care. A family member can also write a beautiful note of good wishes and leave it in the cushion. ❤ Names, monograms or the family crest . Have you ever seen initials carved into a tree? It immediately sends romantic vibes. There’s also something special about having names, initials or a crest displayed at a wedding; it makes the room look luxurious and elegant. Add them to the invitations and then to the thank you stationery after the special day. In your styling, they can be added to aisle runners, decor, cocktails, favours, napkins or cake toppers. We can also embroider them into a ring cushion and customise the colours and ribbons. ❤ An item of jewellery. Being given or lent an item of jewellery that belongs to someone close is truly magical, and it adds the something old and something borrowed element to the wedding. It’s a great talking point and creates a lovely lineage and a new bond between families. There’s something sentimental about having a piece of jewellery from the past and giving it attention again while creating new memories. Write a lovely note with the card provided in our envelope cushion and place the item in the pocket. Natalia Willmott | My Billet Doux | https://mybilletdoux.com BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL We’ve chosen a statement burnt orange colour scheme for our wedding. How do we style our venue so it doesn’t look over the top? There’s no reason to be afraid to use a bold colour as part of your wedding palette. If anything, we encourage our couples to express themselves in their decor design. As you plan, it’s key that you keep the interior of your venue in mind for cohesion; consider how its features can work to your advantage. Bold colours make a statement, so think about using key decor elements such as your flowers, stationery or linen to make them stand out. To support your palette, we would also recommend that you add at least two complimentary colours – possibly neutrals – to give balance and add visual interest. Lastly, let your love story lead! Let it define the narrative of your day and express your authenticity. Your wedding is the first day of your married life together, and it’s only right that it echoes you as a couple. Don’t shy away from what you really want and have fun throughout the process.
