Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2020 (Issue 43)

THROUGH THE LENS We’re both nervous in front of the camera, but we feel it’s important to have a video of the day as well as photos. How do we relax? As a married couple, we can totally relate to this question. We felt uncertain of how to pose before our wedding too. The best advice is to start with choosing the right videographer, as this can make or break how you look on film. Opt for a professional who has shot various weddings, and who will be confident in telling you how to pose while using their camera to its full potential. That’s where we come in. We don’t want you to worry about how you look; it’s our job to make sure you look as beautiful as you feel. We recommend scheduling plenty of time for couple shots on the day; the more time you have the more used to the camera you become. We also ask our couples fun questions, such as “Who’s the tidiest?” or “Who snores the loudest?” We then use the footage of you laughing in the film – it looks great without you even trying! The first step is to decide your priorities and what you want from your venue. Many couples like the convenience of having the ceremony, meal, evening reception and accommodation in one place. If this is you, then a hotel is probably the best option. Next, think about the days around your wedding. Would you like to be able to stay in luxury with your girl gang the night before, after a spa treatment and a gorgeous dinner? We find brides are so much more relaxed when they’ve stayed at the venue the night before and simply have to walk downstairs to get married – bliss! Trust your gut feeling and go with it. If you love a setting as soon as you walk in, whether it’s the first or the 100 th you’ve viewed, book it! Louise Bramley-Ward | The Parsonage Hotel & Spa www.parsonagehotel.co.uk SUITS YOU We have a big menswear party. How do we find outfits to suit everyone? The most important aspect of your suit is the fit. If you’re not measured for your suit properly, it will never look its best. If you’re tall or short, make sure alterations are done accordingly. Better still, buy or hire a suit in a long or short fitting to ensure it’s in proportion all over. Traditional styles often suit all shapes, sizes and generations, that’s why they’re timeless. Unfortunately, dad and grandad may not look quite as cool in a skinny-fit modern style. It’s best to look for something that everyone will be comfortable in. It’s the biggest day of your life, you don’t want to be counting down the hours until you can get changed! Darker colours tend to be more flattering for the suit, but you can brighten it up with lighter neckwear or waistcoats. Think about the fabric and the season too. Tweed is fashionable, but it’s probably best suited to a winter wedding. Finally, think about longevity. If you’re going through a phase of wearing a certain colour or style, perhaps save it for another occasion. You want to love your attire in photos for years to come.
