Q&A Our local pros solve your problems Fashion and Beauty Wild Orchid by Ivory & Co. by Sarah Bussey SUMMER LOVIN’ Q What styles and fabrics will keep me cool for my August wedding? Summer is the most popular time of year to tie the knot, and with good reason: the warm weather means we can take advantage of our beautiful outdoor spaces. There’s nothing better than green grass and an English country garden on such a special day. When shopping for the perfect gown, most brides consider the style they want and the colour scheme, but a summer wedding will also influence the type of fabric you’ll want to wear. To keep cool, look for materials that are light and easy to wear like silks, chiffons, organzas and soft lace. Perhaps choose a style without too many underskirts, as these add bulk and therefore heat. A ballgown style in mikado or satin can be heavy, but if you want a fuller skirt, then an A-line number in silk chiffon with silk satin petticoats will hang beautifully and keep you as cool as a cucumber! How will I know what will suit me for my big day? When working with brides, I’ll always listen to their n eeds and get to know their day. We’ll start by going through your wedding colour scheme and what your bridesmaids are wearing to build a picture. Next, I’ll f ind out what make-up you’d normally wear and ask you to show me pictures of yourself in a beauty look that you like. As a make-up artist, I can look to your skin tone, hair colour and eye colour to work out what shades will suit you and make you look your best on the day. It’s important to have a trial so we can make sure everything i s balanced perfectly with your hair and make-up.
