Your Yorkshire Wedding - Jan/Feb 2018 (Issue 28)

How much can I change the design of my chosen dress? “Within reason you can make changes to most gowns to suit your style. We work very closely with the designers that we stock and have found that most requests can be met.” – Sharon Guest Is there an alterations service? “Most reputable bridal boutiques will offer this. Wedding dress alterations are very specialist so it’s worth going to a boutique you can trust with this type of work. It’s also worth noting that many bridal shops will only be able to provide alterations for their own brides depending on how busy they are – our seamstress is usually fully booked, so we have to prioritise our own brides first. Beware of boutiques that have ‘recommended’ seamstresses. This may suggest they care more about selling you a dress than seeing you safely through your bridal journey.” – Louise Perry, I’m getting married abroad, what’s the best way to transport my dress? “Talk to the airline! Some of them will let you take your gown in a dress bag into the cabin with you whereas others require it to be checked into the hold. We provide our brides with a beautiful travel box designed to fit into the overhead lockers with acid free tissue paper to protect it. We also pack it for you free of charge to make sure it travels as well as possible. The box is also great for storing your gown post-celebrations!” – Sally-Anne Hendry I’m in the process of losing weight how late can I leave it to order my gown?  “Every bride wants to feel their best on their wedding day but try not to put yourself under too much pressure when it comes to size. It’s not the dress size that matters its how it fits you! That said, some designers do offer very short order times (8-10 weeks) but this does restrict your choice. It’s always better for a dress to be ordered in the size that you measure, that way you can always have it taken in nearer the time”. – Sally-Anne Hendry 46
