REAL WEDDINGS 35  In awe of His love Chika and Davina found their happily ever after Images courtesy of Nicola Gough Photography C hika and Davina met through Christian connections which was important to them both that they had the foundation of faith as the initial start point. “We both had a love for travel which got the conversation going,” recalls Davina. “Our first encounter was a lunch date in the canal region of Birmingham, Brindley Place. We both agreed that there wasn’t fireworks set alight that day, but we felt such at ease with one another from the get go. We were happy to share our testimonies and our journey to date with one another without hesitation. We both knew that we wanted to spend more time together and that has never stopped.” After romance blossomed, Chika had gone to his now mother-in-law asking permission to marry Davina so it was on the cards that a marriage proposal would be imminent. “However, the timing was still a surprise, it looked like it would be in the summer of 2018 as a trip was planned to the U.S.,” remembers Davina. “It was the final weekend of the Whitsun break and I had just returned from a weekend break with a friend. A lovely pub lunch was planned in Great Wyrley where Chika was living at the time. Back at the house, Chika played a homemade video which was put together to sweet music charting the relationship to date. There was footage explaining how well the relationship was going. “I turned to catch Chika bending down on one knee with a ring from my grandmother – which he had mended unknown to me. It was very personal, touching and done with such simplicity within the day itself creating unexplainable beauty in the execution of it all.” After such a heartfelt proposal, the big date was set, the 20 th July, 2019 with Pimhill Barn, Shropshire setting the scene. Here, Davina tells us more about their day....
