REAL WEDDINGS 51  the guests, allowing them to enjoy drinks. The bridesmaids travelled in a stretch Mercedes limousine while Sarah travelled in a Daimler with her dad on the way there and with Laurence on the way back. LOOKING THE PART The perfect dress for the bride ended up being a Rebecca Ingram gown called Thera which the shop assistant picked out. “I tried it on and instantly started to cry and never wanted to take it off.” Sarah adds, “I accessorised it with some earrings I borrowed from my nana and a sapphire necklace which Laurence bought me from Sri Lanka on our trip.” Navy blue waistcoats were picked out for the groomsmen while the groom had a champagne-coloured one on. All the groomsmen and groom wore champagne/gold neckties and pinholes made with coral flowers to match the bouquets and the bridesmaids’ dresses which were coral/gold with sequin bodies and chiffon skirts. While the bride had a bouquet that was cascading with coral flowers, the bridesmaids had mini ones. Sarah says, “We were so lucky to have such incredible make- up artists and hairdresser – we felt like princesses all day!” MEMORABLE MOMENTS Sarah says, “It was such a wonderful feeling to have everyone we love in one place – we had to keep pinching ourselves we couldn’t believe our luck. I thought I would be nervous walking down the aisle but as soon as I saw Laurence stood at the altar all of my nerves drifted away, it just felt so right.” There was plenty of amazing moments the couple shared on their wedding day but one that stood out was the hymns in church. “We had a lady playing the organ and our friends had learned the harmonies making the atmosphere in the church electric.” Sarah adds, “After the church ceremony we put on food in the pub next door while we had photos taken. We joined everyone after the photos for a swift drink, it was so fun being in the pub in a wedding dress – something I never thought I’d do!” A cute moment the couple recall was when family members surprised them with a flashmob that had been planned for months. It was a shock for both of them when more and more family members joined in becoming one of the best moments of their lives. Friends from Sarah’s medical school ended up forming a band as a hobby called Jonny Rocket and The Planeteers, so they were the perfect choice for entertainment on the couple’s special day. “They were exceptional and everyone was up dancing.” For the honeymoon, the newlyweds went for a two-week holiday in Zanzibar that was all-inclusive. Sarah says, “Originally we had planned to go on lots of trips around the island but we were so exhausted after the wedding we ended up spending the whole time at the resort reading books and sipping cocktails – it was bliss!” After going through the whole experience the couple shares their top tip. “On the day make sure you take five-minutes every hour to spend with each other just the two of you and say one thing that’s happened so far that you have enjoyed.”
