FLOWERS 89 DRESSING THE BRIDAL PARTY How to style the bridal party D ressing the bridal party can be a challenge. Whether you’re looking for a gown to suit all your bridesmaids or the perfect outfit your mum, it can be difficult keeping everyone happy. To help, we’ve asked local experts to answer some of your burning questions. WINTER DREAM Q – We’re having a winter wedding, and I’d love to incorporate the time of year into my bridesmaids’ hair and make-up. How can we do this? When I imagine a winter theme, I think of crisp white frosty scenes with rich berries and warm roaring fires. To incorporate this atmosphere into your bridesmaids’ hair, adorn it with winter berries and eucalyptus leaves or add some sparkle with a beautiful hair comb. When it comes to their make-up, keep the eyes minimal and classic with some luxurious matt tones and a simple flick liner. If you want to jazz up their look, opt for a rich brown or gorgeous plum colour. My favourite product for lips is Charlotte Tilbury’s Secret Salma, it’s a berry hue that would suit your theme perfectly. Are there any designers we should look for? It’s essential that your bride squad feel comfortable and confident in what they’re wearing. To ensure this, consider mixing and matching dress styles but staying with the same hues and fabrics. This will achieve an interesting, effortless look that everyone feels amazing in. I’d recommend you look at Sorella Vita (www.sorellavita.com) de signs for heaps of inspiration and colour ideas. Do you have any suggestions? When it comes to dressing your bridesmaids, however many you have, you could either opt to have a similar style as you or go for something completely different. This is where your professional stylist will come into their own, as they will be able to advise you on what’s best, given the time you have to get ready. Something simple is often best for maids. Keep in mind if you’re all getting ready for 12pm then it will be a push to get everyone looking wedding-ready, so you will have to start at 7am and possibly compromise on the hairstyle. For example, a quick up do can work wonders as opposed to tirelessly tonging hair for hours. Don’t forget the mother-of-the-bride! If you’re lucky enough to have her around, then make sure she shines brightly. Linda Leonard Hair and make-up artist www.lindaleonard.co.uk
