One of the most important elements of any wedding is the food – your guests are reliant on some hearty grub to fuel them for a long night of dancing and socialising. In recent years, we have seen the move away from the traditional three-course meal in favour of buffets, food trucks and pizzas, but is this right for you? Your wedding should be the perfect depiction of you and your partner, including the style of food that you both align with. There is no set rule book on how your wedding should look – of course, there are the stereotypical images of what people expect but they are simply ideas. If you want a lavish affair full of bold, bright colours with a whole new schedule, then that’s your choice! The food at your wedding is one of the most customisable elements and can be anything your heart desires. Making the most of seasonal foods will be a fabulous way for you to make the feast your own, highlight your favourite foods – and keep your carbon footprint down! For example, summer weddings would welcome the use of watermelon, strawberries, peaches, and other stone fruits on the menu; with an increase of lighter fish dishes and barbecues which offer a lot of freedom with timings and create a laid-back socialising vibe – plus, who doesn’t love the smell of a barbie on a summer’s day? On the reverse, we have winter warmers, think soup, hearty roasts, cooked fruit, and steamed puddings – guests are warmed from reception all the way through to the dancefloor. These meals feature more decedent flavours and, if you’re close enough to Christmas, could even involve a Christmas dinner spread complete with all the trimmings and crackers! There are, traditionally, three stages to the food served at weddings: canapés, the main meal, and dessert.
