The best part of the year is finally upon us! It’s not quite the madness of Christmas but the festive spirit is certainly building, and we’ve still got so much to look forward to. It’s the time of year where the sun has gone back into hiding and we are finding ourselves getting home from work in the dark! But what does this time of year mean for weddings? If you want the autumn feel at your wedding but don’t want to sacrifice tradition by going all-out Halloween-vibes, perhaps you could make some small swaps? Like mini squashes on your table displays, a spiced cake, or jewel-coloured autumn leaves integrated into your décor. No matter how you wish to blend this time of year in to your big day, you can always relish in the cosy atmosphere that will surround your wedding. You may not have the big outdoor party like you’ve seen all over your Instagram this summer, but you can guarantee a comforting aesthetic full of texture, fragrance, colour and indulgence, think pumpkin-spiced lattes and marshmallows around the fire – we’re in! Stay warm, see you next issue! Danielle Harvey, managing editor ‘Tis the season Danielle x Your Surrey Wedding is solely owned, published and designed by Ellis Media and Events Ltd. ELEGANCE Timeless Charlotte and Scott opted for a sage and white colour palette for a classic theme Images courtesy of Paul and Nanda Green Charlotte and Scott have been in each others lives since they were 12 years old and attended the same school. At 14 and 15, when Scott became head boy and Charlotte became head girl, they spent even more time together – this later blossomed into the love story we see today. Scott proposed to Charlotte the day after their 10th anniversary with a hand-written card. Charlotte adds, “after reading the card, I turned around, and he was on one knee! We then went to design a ring in Hatton Garden that day, then out for dinner and stayed at a hotel! I couldn’t have asked for anymore.” When it came to selecting a venue, this couple needed something that felt as special as their relationship and a classic backdrop for their dreamy nuptials; with this in mind, Wotton House would be the place they say ‘I do’. Two rooms that stood out to them were The Old Library and The Italian Gardens, both of which had stunning scenery and made gorgeous backdrops for their special day. Charlotte and Scott wanted their wedding to exude timeless elegance, their soft colour palette of white and sage complemented the venue. Their classic theme was carried throughout the venue with their décor and choice of flowers – peonies, hydrangeas, white flowers, roses, and a touch of eucalyptus. Their styling featured floating candles, frosted acrylic signs with white italic writing, and hand-written place names. Charlotte adds, “the venue backdrop was actually a massive part of our theme – The Old Library had beautiful huge pillars lining the aisle, and stone features around. I wanted to complement those rooms, so everything we used was aimed at tying it all together.” To add some sparkle to the day, Charlotte and Scott added a custom light canopy to the centre of the reception room. They had the top table underneath it for the wedding breakfast and this was later replaced by the dancefloor! Charlotte and Scott had a fabulous selection of food to keep their guests fuelled. They, of course, has canapés during the drinks reception, this was then followed by a three-course meal featuring mushroom arancini, lamb wellington, and Eton mess. If this wasn’t enough, they also had a tower of espresso martinis and, for the evening, they offered guests a barbecue, doughnut tower and wedding cake. Charlotte and Scott channelled their theme of elegance into their big day apparel. Charlotte’s dress was from Isabelle Grace Bridal and was by Essence of Australia. Charlotte adds, “it wasn’t the type of dress that I thought I was going for, but as soon as I tried it on, I felt really good, and emotional!” Scott wore a tuxedo from Suit Supply – opting for a black velvet number paired with a black velvet bow tie and patent shoes. The happy couple were accompanied by an equally well-dressed wedding party, featuring bridesmaids in sage green-coloured dresses and groomsmen in regular tuxedos. To set the ceremony scene in the venue, Charlotte and Scott had a pianist who played through the nuptials, reception, and wedding breakfast. There will always be certain moments of your wedding that stick out to you as the most memorable. Here, Charlotte tells us theirs, “the highlight of the day for us was finally getting to marry eachother; a decade of growing up together and loving each other. There aren’t really enough words to describe that feeling. Having our family and friends with us was everything and more, our loved ones are so beyond special to us.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

They say that love is the wildest ride of your life, and for Ellen and Gareth they take this one step further, these thrill-seekers met at Thorpe Park! Their love soon blossomed and when it came to planning the proposal, Gareth made sure Ellen was kept out of loop until they were on the plane jetting off for a romantic trip to Barbados over New Year’s. They celebrated the new year in luxury and Gareth proposed on 3rd January 2024. Fast-forward, and Coltsford Mill set the scene for their magical wedding, thanks to the venue’s picturesque setting, and overall atmosphere. Ellen adds, “We could tell the venue staff would look after us well on the day”. The overall colour scheme for Ellen and Gareth’s day was purple with hints of gold – something they executed perfectly! To emanate the purple theme throughout the venue, they included things like purple-tinted glass vases, purple pails for the wedding favour succulents to go in, purple chair sashes and table runners, and the bridesmaids’ dresses were also in this hue. The venue styling was completed with a wooden turtle that came with blue and purple heart tiles for guests to write on and then drop into the turtle – an alternative idea to a guest book! After the ceremony, guests were treated to Pimms and canapés, which was swiftly followed by an exceptional wedding breakfast line-up! REAL WEDDINGS 33
Ellen and Gareth also had the opportunity to work closely with their wedding cake baker to create a truly bespoke piece. Their classic three-tier cake was made up of a vanilla and Biscoff bottom layer, pistachio middle layer, and lemon and blueberry on top. The cake topper was of them in their wedding apparel but with the addition of ski equipment to represent their shared love for the sport. Ellen wore a stunning Stella York dress bought at Helena Fortley and paired this with white court shoes during the day and glittery silver ones in the evening. Gareth and his groomsmen all wore grey suits from Moss Bros and paired it with purple ties from House of Fraser. The bridesmaids all wore purple knee-length dresses from Ever Pretty, and paired these with gold block heels from Paradox. Keeping the guests entertained during the big day was well under control, as this happy couple included garden games such as ball in the bucket, beat the buzz, hook a duck, and hoopla. This was followed by evening entertainment of a DIY photo booth and a live performance from The Rockpins – keeping the dancefloor pumping all night! The evening is typically where the bride and groom let go of the pre-wedding stresses, but was this the memorable moment for this couple? Ellen adds, “Seeing all our friends and family come together to celebrate with us was the highlight of our day. Plus, everyone has told us they had a wonderful time! “We were also looking forward to seeing how the cake we helped design would turn out, and we were thrilled to see the end result.” 34

07881703135 thewrightchoiceflowers@gmail.com www.thewrightchoiceflowers.co.uk Fell in love with Taylor Swift’s proposal setting? Find out how to recreate the look for your wedding day… Nicola Wright from The Wright Choice Flowers says, “Wow! I mean who wouldn’t want their engagement to look like that?! A dreamy, romantic garden setting with luscious full-bloomed urn displays, delicate arch and masses of flowers. I can only imagine the incredible fragrance that filled the air! So, to capture the look for yourselves on your wedding day, firstly, what kind of budget do you have? That way, when you chat with your florist, they already know what they could be working with and won’t be suggesting things that are out of reach. If you don’t, or have absolutely no idea what to expect (which is normal) ask your florist for three price points from standard through to luxury. This means they’ll be able to use their time more effectively in suggesting the best possible ways to get ‘the look’. “Speak to your florist about what containers/stands they potentially already have to hire as this helps with costings as they may already have what you need. Focus on what you can do, not what you can’t. If your budget doesn’t allow for the whole shebang, then strip it back into individual pieces; it may be that you can only do a floral arch, which will be just as beautiful “There are options to create designs in faux flowers, or using large flowering plants, such as hydrangeas, can also help create volume and impact – you can then plant and enjoy for years to come! Sometimes even just a wall of trailing Wisteria can give a stunning backdrop. Don’t overstretch and have lots of little things, as this can ‘cheapen’ the desired effect and lose the impact you want. Your florist will suggest the best way to achieve maximum visuals, and no doubt offer different ways of doing this to fit your budget. 07881 703 135 | thewrightchoiceflowers.co.uk A-lister style

YOUR SEASON FINDING Journalist Dakota Murphey offers seasonal inspiration for a unique wedding reception Whilst a summer wedding is traditionally considered the most popular time to tie the knot, there are many reasons why couples choose other seasons for their celebrations. For many, choosing a date comes down to a mix of budget, venue availability, work schedules and personal preferences. Whether you adore autumn’s vibrant colours, the blossoms of early spring, or heartwarming winter celebrations, each season has unique charms to inspire your wedding plans. From selecting sun-kissed summer cakes and bespoke gifts, to arranging autumnal barn dances or finding local caterers with seasonal produce; this guide helps you host a wedding for all the seasons. TIMING YOUR SPECIAL DAY While June to August is regarded as the peak months of the wedding calendar, couples today prefer to secure a date that works around their busy schedules. In 2023, 25% of couples opted for weddings in March, April, and May and 27% chose September to November. If you love the idea of marrying in autumn or winter, think about which wedding venues suit each season best (prior to booking anything). Ideally, view your desired venue in the season you’ll be booking it for – that way you can get a true feel for the potential vibe on the day. Understanding seasonal nuances allows you to plan a memorable reception! TAPPING INTO EXPERTS WITH SEASONED EXPERIENCE Increasingly, couples planning their weddings are recognising the benefits of professional support; with many turning to wedding planners to help them secure a standout occasion. Their experience managing countless celebrations for happy couples well-equips them to offer guidance through the process – assisting with trending wedding designs, and accommodating a small, large or distinct celebration. Similarly, wedding planners with specific seasonal experience prove invaluable; particularly for fine-tuning every detail, navigating last-minute challenges and contacting local suppliers. Ask about previous weddings they’ve coordinated and be confident describing your vision, however quirky or unusual it seems. For example, Matthew Shaw, founder and creative director at Sauveur, shares his inspiration on embracing the winter season, chuttersnap.com 44
MEET THE EXPERT Website: dakotamurphey.co.uk Email: dakota@dakotamurphey.co.uk saying, “If you are planning a January or February wedding, you will likely also be the first one of the year – which can be very exciting! From the food offering to design and dress code, there’s a lot of fun to be had!” A further source of inspiration can be gained by tapping into your wedding photographer’s wealth of knowledge – who will usually be happy to share insights, showcase portfolios, and suggest photogenic poses at specific locations and times. They can also offer advice on how to capture the essence of a season and the best natural or candid shots during your big day. Wedding photographer Gauthier le Guen, in an MPB interview, highlights how the four seasons contribute to the uniqueness of each occasion: “I also like the fact that each wedding is unique – the reception locations, the decorations and the atmosphere are always changing according to the seasons – so I never get tired of the job.” BALANCING AESTHETICS WITH PRACTICALITIES Weather will always be a major consideration when planning any celebration. Even in the height of summer, in late spring, and September’s elusive ‘Indian Summer’ – there’s no guarantee of blue skies and hours of sunshine. With a wedding planner and photographer on side, your wedding plans will remain a careful balancing act. Whatever the month, you’ll need to take into account weather forecasts, budgets, guest experiences, catering, and table plans to name a few. For instance, remain flexible with indoor-outdoor options if you want a photo booth, a marquee or wanting to stage an incredible firework display. INSPIRING IDEAS FOR THE FOUR SEASONS When you think of spring, renewal and fresh beginnings come to mind – the perfect symbolism for a wedding. You might want to create a theme based on natural colours for wedding favours, flowers, music, food and drink all associated with this time of year. Consider soft pastels for bridal wear; additionally, table decorations featuring tulips or daffodils, and spring colours depict delicate beauty. Summer weddings promise longer days, ample natural light for photography, and elegant outdoor receptions in country gardens. Consider acoustic live music that can transition from daytime celebrations to evening dancing under the stars. Autumn can offer the most spectacular backdrop at weddings with rich burgundy, burnt orange, and deep forest green giving venues a dramatic décor. Venue lighting becomes particularly important – amber uplighting and lots of candles enhance a warm glow befitting the time of year. However, winter weddings possess a magical quality unlike any other season. Transform reception spaces with fairylights, crystal elements, and white florals for an enchanted atmosphere. Venues with fireplaces become particularly coveted, offering both cosy warmth and ambiance. Winter bridal fashion allows for luxurious fabrics like satin and faux fur wraps. Festive catering options will likely feature mulled wine, rich chocolate desserts, and hearty main courses to warm guests. Whichever county you’re looking forward to marrying in, every season brings a diversity of colours, fresh flowers and home-grown produce to make a wedding unique. Whether you envisage a fairytale mid-summer event or an idyllic snowy winter affair, your wedding reception will be an enchanting fusion of that season’s natural beauty and personal style. unsplash.com.@mutecevvil Unsplash.com.@julie_soul unsplash.com.@claitonconto BRIDESMAIDS 45
