Wow – where has that time gone? Luckily for me, I still love my job and the industry, it’s a close-knit community that support and champion each other. It’s an important role, being a part of someone’s wedding day, and there’s not a supplier I haven’t met that doesn’t value, respect and enjoy being involved in a couple’s nuptials. From the cake maker that has lovingly spent hours icing the perfect petals on to each tier, to the stationery designer that has hand-drawn the venue for your invites; the DJ that’s spent late nights planning the perfect playlist for you, to the seamstress that’s painstakingly hand-sewn pearls on your veil – local suppliers really do go above and beyond for every wedding, every couple, because they simply love what they do and know how important it is to you both. Because of this passion, I still get excited every issue about the different things I come across, a new favour idea, a real wedding couple doing things differently, or an unusual first dance song, I still love it all – and I’m still surprised by couples, suppliers and love, all know no bounds. A day to remember Harley and Matt’s big day was a lavish affair with a showstopping flowerboy Images courtesy of Shaun Peters Harley and Matt’s love story starts during Covid, when Harley was working in the local hospital, and Matt had come to sell fruit and veg to the staff who couldn’t make it to the shops. Matthew had asked his uncle to get Harley’s number, under the promise that he knew someone who could fix her car. The chatting started and the rest is, as they say, history! Harley and Matt like to leave it up to the fates when it comes to decisions (big or small). Harley adds, “One day we were out shopping and Matthew suggested flipping a coin to see if he should buy an engagement ring, it came up heads so we brought a ring there and then. I wasn’t allowed it straight away because Matthew wanted to surprise me with a stay at the Crazy Bear Hotel! We got put into room 21 (lucky number!) and I then finally got the ring I was waiting months for! The big date was set 21st August 2024 with Botley Hill Barn setting the scene. Our sister-in-law made our wedding cake for us, and on top of the cake was a small figurine of our dog Elvis who is a springer spaniel. As much as we would have loved to have him with us on the day, he was much better behaved on the cake! We had a really simple table layout as we wanted to make the most of the huge windows and amazing views! Our table plan was based around comedy films with quotes relating to food from the movies. Everyone loved it and we didn’t get any of the signs back, so we’re hoping they are making a nice accessory in several of our guests’ homes! I made all the table signs and name tags myself, which all matched our navy colour theme. I originally wanted a small wedding with only a few friends and family; however, Matt wasn’t having any of it. He knew of the Botley Hill Barn by driving past it, so we went out for lunch and had a sneaky look around and instantly fell in love. 30
Matthew was really nervous but also excited. He had the hard job of making sure our boys didn’t get their shirts dirty before the ceremony! The flowers for myself and Matt were white roses, gypsophila, and eucalyptus, I also added white hydrangeas to my bouquet. Our bridesmaids had gypsophila balls and for our main flower display we had daffodils in remembrance of my late nan. I purchased my dress from Aurora Bride, and the designer was Stella York. I chose the dress because I wanted something light and simple that I didn’t feel restricted in, and it was perfect! I also had a really simple veil with small diamantés on it, which then matched my shoes which were, of course, Jimmy Choo. The maid-of-honour and bridesmaids wore navy dresses to match the theme. They individually picked a dress that they loved and felt comfortable in, so on the day they all had different styles which looked lovely! Matthew had a navy suit from Moss Bros, shoes by Magnanni, and Louis Vuitton cufflinks. The groomsmen, best man, and father-of-the-bride had navy suits with matching light blue ties and pocket squares. We booked DJ Terron Murray for the evening, who kept the party pumping until the early hours. 31 REAL WEDDINGS

From the venue staff, bar staff, photographer, catering team, hairdresser, DJ and saxophonist, they all went above and beyond. Another moment that stood out to me was playing the floor is lava with the children, falling over and getting a huge grass stain on my dress before we had any photos taken. luckily our brilliant photographer Shaun told me not to worry he will hide it in photos – I can confirm he has worked wonders! Remember that the day is for you and your partner, try not to focus on pleasing everyone else! Family and friends won’t mind if you don’t have a photo booth, ongoing entertainment throughout the day, or expensive napkins. It’s all about your love and your story. However, if you happen to have a 6ft 2, 33-year-old male friend who will happily dance down the aisle with a pink glittery bum bag – do it! Something we will never forget is our 33-yearold flower boy dancing down the aisle to Like a Virgin by Madonna, he didn’t hold back! On the day I was really excited and really relaxed, I had such a lovely morning getting ready with the girls and my mum. There was no stress, and we had a good laugh. I was also given a box in the morning from my maid-of-honour and bridesmaids; they had all handwritten letters to me, and it was so thoughtful. Leah Sax who, funnily enough, plays a saxophone, performed six sets alongside Terron, and they were both absolutely amazing. 32
