Your South Wales Wedding - January/February 2021 (Issue 77)

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD Q – What quirky menu options do you suggest? We get asked this question a lot. For a more casual style, how about picnic baskets on each table, filled with all your favourite savoury and sweet treats? Alternatively, you could ask your caterer to put sharing boards of meats, cheeses, savoury nibbles and salads down long tables so your guests can help themselves to the feast in front of them. If you’re looking for casual but hot food, how about designing a bespoke gourmet burger with your caterer? We’ve had several weddings ask to do this, and it’s a lot of fun at tasting sessions providing different burgers and assorted fillings. For something formal but a little different, why not consider venison or duck rather than the conventional chicken, lamb or beef? If that isn’t to your taste, use heritage style vegetables like purple carrots, candy-striped beetroot or tomato varieties to add a talking point to your dish. What’s popular right now in the world of weddings and will appeal to all our guests? We have an interesting situation at the moment and don’t know if 2021 weddings will be permitted to have the traditional numbers and fun practices that we had pre-pandemic. Don’t worry, there are still ways to have a good time even with smaller numbers. This is where technology comes in! We can utilise it so even when the pandemic is a thing of the past, aged grandparents who are too frail to travel will still be able to be involved with your big day. A selfie wizard allows people both in the room and at home to upload pictures of themselves and send text messages. People can use it to share a memory of you as a couple or answer questions. What’s more, you’ll get to keep all the images on a memory stick which can double up as a guest book. Many of you will have used Zoom for work meetings or socially, but how about using it to broadcast your wedding to those who are unable to attend? Hire a supplier who can manage this for you with quality sound and vision equipment. Your loved ones won’t need to do anything other than connect to the link provided. The beauty of this is you can have a copy of the broadcast saved too! You can extend the fun by having quizzes with your remote guests or remote dancing to some memorable or significant music. Your aged relatives could even do a speech. Don’t write off your options with micro weddings. It’s still possible to be inclusive even with restrictions. You design will depend on the overall style and aesthetic of your wedding. Here are some ideas to you get started: ❤ If your day will be overflowing with roses and littered with heart confetti, then opt for a stationery suite complete with luxury envelope liners, illustrated with extravagant watercoloured roses and deep red envelopes. Finish off with a glamorous gold monogram of your initials. ❤ Alternatively, if you’re after something quirky, then why not go for pastel-coloured invitations? Each dainty card can be laser cut into the shape of a heart, paired with a soft san serif typeface that resembles the iconic Love Hearts sweets. ❤ Sometimes less is more. Take things back to basics with a crisp ivory card stock and elegant typography. When the design is this minimal, you should pay extra attention to the wording. I would include a poem or try writing your own. The personal touches is what makes it extra special. ❤ The possibilities are endless, so now is the time to get pinning on your moodboard. The more inspiration you can gather, the better! With the help of a stationer, you’ll be able to create the perfect stationery suite.
