With a relaxed approach and a keen eye for storytelling, Huw & Dale Photography capture the genuine moments that make every wedding unforgettable Based in the captivating landscapes of South Wales, married photography duo Huw and Dale have built a reputation for capturing weddings with warmth, authenticity and an instinctive eye for storytelling. With years of experience behind the lens, they have become familiar faces at many of the region’s most enchanting venues, trusted by couples to document some of the most meaningful moments of their lives. Their approach to photography is rooted in capturing genuine, unscripted moments as they naturally unfold. With a style that leans heavily into documentary and reportage, Huw and Dale focus on telling the story of a wedding day through real emotion and atmosphere. Every image is designed to feel honest and unforced, preserving the small, fleeting moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. While their work is largely observational, they are equally comfortable stepping in when needed, creating beautifully composed portraits that feel elegant without ever becoming overly staged. For the pair, wedding photography is about much more than simply taking pictures. They see themselves as an integral part of the day, helping things run smoothly while creating an environment where couples and guests alike feel relaxed and comfortable. Their open, friendly and approachable nature allows them to quickly build a genuine connection with the people they photograph, something they believe is essential when it comes to capturing authentic and heartfelt images. Huw and Dale photograph between 60 and 100 weddings each year, bringing careful planning and thoughtful preparation to every celebration they capture. Their couples remain firmly at the centre of everything they do, ensuring that each wedding is approached with the attention and care it deserves. Their philosophy is simple: keep it chilled, keep it relaxed and keep it friendly. Ultimately, Huw and Dale see wedding photography as an investment in memories. Long after the music fades and the flowers have gone, the photographs remain, preserving the laughter, the quiet glances, the joyful chaos and the love that defines the day. Through their images, couples are given something truly lasting: a visual story that allows them to return to those moments again and again. Meant to be High school sweethearts Rose and Tom found their way back to each other and celebrated with a vibrant, Aperol-inspired wedding at the place that always felt like home Images courtesy of Sophie Collins Photography Rose and Tom met at school and became high school sweethearts. As they grew up, life took them in different directions, but in 2022 they found their way back to each other. “It felt like picking up exactly where we left off, only better,” says Rose. “Our relationship blossomed and, in 2023 on our first anniversary, Tom proposed at Hensol Castle during a walk around the lake. It was incredibly special and meaningful, especially given how much the venue means to us both. It was intimate and completely perfect.” Hensol Castle holds a special place in both Rose and Tom’s hearts. Rose works there and Tom previously worked at the distillery. “We’ve both spent so much time at the venue over the years,” explains Rose. “It felt like home to us and choosing it as our wedding venue just felt right.” The couple wanted the day to feel vibrant, fun, and like one big celebration. “Think Aperol Spritz vibes with a disco twist, bright, bubbly, and all about having a good time,” says Rose. “The colour palette was bold orange and pink, which felt perfect for a spring/summer wedding. We leaned fully into the colours and the playful feel throughout the day. From the flowers and décor to the stationery and styling details, everything reflected that fun, party atmosphere. We wanted guests to walk in and immediately feel the energy of the day.” To welcome their guests, the couple served Aperol Spritz cocktails, which tied in perfectly with their theme. Rose wore a Martina Liana gown from Laura May Bridal. “I knew I wanted something classic but dramatic,” she says. “The timeless A-line silhouette and corset detailing were exactly what I had envisioned. The puff sleeves added a modern twist and gave the dress something a little different, which made it feel truly me. From the moment I tried it on, it just felt right. It was elegant, flattering, and made me feel confident and completely myself.” Tom chose a classic dinner suit with a bow tie from Dyfed Menswear. To make his look stand out, he opted for a black velvet jacket, which felt timeless and stylish. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Pretty Lavish. “I loved that they could all wear the same colour and fabric but choose different styles that suited them individually and made them feel comfortable,” explains Rose. “We chose a blush pink shade, which allowed the flowers to really stand out and complemented the overall colour palette beautifully.” Music played a huge part in the couple’s day. “For the reception, Jordan Marks Music kept the energy high and the dancefloor full all day and night,” recalls Rose. “We had the Llantrisant Male Choir sing at the church, which was incredibly special as my late grandfather was a chorister with them. One of the most emotional moments was walking down the aisle to them singing Love Story by Taylor Swift. I’m a huge Swiftie, and it was such an amazing, unforgettable moment. “Our first dance was also a highlight. We started with Baby I’m Yours by Arctic Monkeys and then switched straight into I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor, which really kicked the party off. Another special moment was a surprise from our best men, who recreated mini versions of my usual cocktail from when Tom worked as a barman, which was such a thoughtful and personal thing for them to do!” Rose and Tom’s top tip for couples planning their wedding is to enjoy it. “Don’t overthink it, and really focus on what you and your partner want from the day,” says Rose. “Try to soak in every single moment as it goes by so quickly.” REAL WEDDINGS 21

Their relationship quickly blossomed and in 2024 Josh asked Chloe to marry him. “In true Josh fashion, it wasn’t a grand, down-on-one-knee, flash-mob situation,” Chloe laughs. “It was much more his style: calm, casual and wonderfully understated.” As they walked along Aberavon Beach with the children, sea breeze in their hair, he turned to her and asked: “Shall we get married then?” The couple chose to celebrate their wedding over two days at Craig Y Nos Castle. One of the biggest advantages was the abundance of on-site accommodation, allowing all of their guests to stay together. “Creating that warm, inclusive atmosphere was incredibly important to us,” Chloe explains, “and the venue made it effortless.” The views certainly helped seal the decision too. Sitting down to a beautiful meal with their closest family and friends while overlooking the breathtaking Brecon Beacons created the kind of peaceful, unforgettable setting they had always hoped for. “It felt special, peaceful and exactly the kind of atmosphere we wanted for the celebration,” Chloe says. Chloe and Josh tied the knot on New Year’s Eve. “I adore Christmas,” Chloe says, “but getting married on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day with three children felt like a scheduling risk of Olympic proportions.” New Year’s Eve offered the perfect compromise: all the festive magic without the Santa-related logistics. Cariad & Amore Wedding and Event Design styled the venue for the couple. “Cara was incredible,” says Chloe. “It was almost as if she had access to my Pinterest board and my mind REAL WEDDINGS 29

at the same time; she just knew exactly what I was hoping for.” Their florist, Jo from MoJo Flowers, also captured the brief beautifully. “The scent of the fresh flowers, combined with berries, thistle and pinecones, brought the whole space to life,” Chloe says. “It felt so seasonal, warm and beautifully styled.” Food was a big priority for the couple, largely because they didn’t want their wedding to feel like another Christmas dinner. The dining experience provided by Craig Y Nos Castle was outstanding, offering guests a varied menu that proved a welcome break from the usual holiday fare. For the ceremony, Chloe wore a Maggie Sottero gown called Anniston from All About Eve Bridal. “The gown hugged me in all the right places, highlighted my favourite features and made me feel incredible from the moment I tried it on,” Chloe says. “It was exactly what I had imagined and then some.” Chloe also chose to have sleeves, which her seamstress cleverly attached with poppers so they could be removed later in the evening. Josh chose a tuxedo from Dyfed Menswear. “It was timeless and exactly the level of sophistication we were going for,” Chloe says. Josh also added his own forest green Remus Uomo satin jacket, which elevated the whole ensemble beautifully. The Midnight Fiddle Band entertained guests throughout the entire day, from the ceremony and drinks reception to golden hour and well into the evening celebrations. “Their music created such an incredible atmosphere and was exactly the vibe we wanted,” adds Chloe. Another standout moment came from The Secret Singing Guy. Marc’s surprise “police officer” entrance had guests completely fooled, but when the singing began the room instantly came to life. “He had everyone laughing and joining in and it’s safe to say he left a lasting impression,” says Chloe. V360 Video Booth Hire was another big hit, with guests of all ages getting involved and creating brilliant videos to remember the day. As there were children attending, the couple were also keen to make sure younger guests had something fun to enjoy. Brushes & Balloons proved perfect for the job, keeping them entertained with face painting and increasingly impressive balloon creations. Magician Jason Simons added another touch of magic to the celebrations, moving effortlessly around the room performing close-up tricks that delighted guests and created countless memorable moments throughout the day. “The reactions were priceless,” Chloe says. “He was fantastic and brought so many fun moments to the day.” 30

A celebration of the season’s first light, this styled shoot at Nolton Coast pairs coastal beauty with the warm, timber-framed charm of its wedding barn Images courtesy of Laura Mae Rees Photography BLOOMS This styled shoot celebrates the arrival of spring, blending rustic beauty with effortless charm. Katie Owen of Nolton Coast explains: “Collaborating with talented, like-minded creatives allowed us to showcase our wedding barn while bringing a shared vision to life. While we offer ceremonies on the stunning Pembrokeshire Coast, we also host celebrations in our charming timber-framed barn. The coastal setting is what draws most of our couples, but the barn provides a beautiful alternative that we felt deserved a little more attention. I wanted to create something seasonal that complemented the barn’s aesthetic and reflected the feel of our weddings. As the shoot coincided with the beginning of spring, we found wonderful inspiration in the season’s fresh colours and soft, organic textures.” Where love 34

Forever BEGINS HERE Turn your wedding into days of love, laughter, and memories to treasure Weddings are magical, but why let the magic end after just one day? Multi-day weddings are becoming a favourite for couples who want to truly savour the celebration, spend quality time with their guests, and create memories that linger long after the vows are said. From casual welcome drinks to elegant ceremonies and relaxed farewell lunches, a multi-day wedding turns the traditional day into a weekend of love, laughter, and shared experiences. THE MAGIC OF MULTI-DAY NUPTIALS There are plenty of reasons to love multiday weddings. If guests are travelling from afar, celebrating over several days gives you more time to connect with them. On a traditional single-day wedding, you might be surprised at how many people you don’t get a chance to speak to and you might find yourself wondering, did I even say hello to them? Weddings are busy events, and as the happy couple, there’s rarely a moment to relax. Trying to fit in greetings with everyone can quickly become stressful. Spreading the celebration across multiple days means you can take your time, enjoy meaningful conversations, and spend quality moments with different groups of guests you might otherwise have missed. It also creates a more relaxed pace. There’s less pressure on the big day if you’ve already shared meet-andgreets the day before. A casual meal the night before the wedding, for example, is a perfect way to catch up, reminisce, and connect with people you might not be seated near on the main day. Multi-day celebrations also open the door to personal touches. If you’re marrying at a vineyard, why not host a wine tasting the day before? Or if your venue is by the beach, take a morning stroll with your nearest and dearest. This will make your wedding a shared experience rather than just a single event. FROM WELCOME DRINKS TO FAREWELL LUNCH There’s no right or wrong way to host a multi-day wedding, it can look exactly how you want. A popular approach is to start the first day with casual drinks, a barbecue or pizza oven, and lawn games. This relaxed atmosphere gives guests space to mingle and enjoy themselves without any pressure or expectations. The next day is the all-important wedding, where everyone celebrates and dances the night away. Following that, it’s nice to keep the final day gentle, as some guests may be nursing sore heads. Consider a leisurely lunch, a countryside walk, or a spa session. Opt for something light that allows you and your guests to unwind, reminisce about the previous day, and enjoy your first moments as Images sourced from unsplash.com 38

a married couple surrounded by your friends and family. FINDING YOUR DREAM SETTING For a multi-day wedding, the right venue can turn your celebration into an unforgettable celebration. More venues now offer packages that span several days, complete with staff to handle every detail, from welcoming your guests to ensuring they’re comfortable, to coordinating food, drinks, and entertainment. Exclusive-use country houses allow you and your loved ones to have the space entirely to yourselves, creating an intimate, home-away-from-home atmosphere. Barn venues with on-site accommodation offer rustic charm, while estate venues with cottages or glamping options give your guests the chance to relax and celebrate in style. Remember to check any noise restrictions, especially if you envision dancing and toasting long into the night. Multi-day weddings do involve more planning, so it helps to think ahead. Decide who will stay overnight and how many bedrooms you’ll need, this will guide your venue choice and ensure everyone feels settled. Choose a venue experienced in hosting multiday events and ask how they’ll keep everything running smoothly, from room turnarounds to catering across several days. Taking these details into account ensures your celebration flows effortlessly, letting you focus on making memories with your loved ones. BALANCING LOVE AND LOGISTICS You might be wondering whether a multi-day wedding costs more. While there can be additional expenses, spreading celebrations across several days often makes budgeting feel more manageable. Keep in mind that food and drink don’t have to be formal every night. You could host a casual barbecue or welcome drinks the night before, then enjoy a more formal sit-down meal on the wedding day. Skipping a plated dinner one evening or opting for lighter, informal options can help balance the budget. Entertainment doesn’t need to cost the world, either. Save your main performance for the wedding day and add smaller extras on the surrounding days, like lawn games, a wine tasting, or a cosy lunch. For décor, instead of splurging on everything in one day, spread pieces across the weekend and reuse them creatively, your venue stylist may have great suggestions to make it seamless. Not all guests need to attend every event. You could invite close family and friends for the full event while others join only for the main day. Alternatively, include everyone in the invitations and let guests choose which parts they can attend. Making attendance optional gives your loved ones flexibility and ensures that everyone can enjoy the celebrations without pressure. A multi-day wedding isn’t just about extending the celebration, it’s about creating moments you and your guests will treasure forever. Whether it’s a morning stroll with close family, a lively dancefloor on the main day, or a cosy lunch as the celebrations wind down, these moments let you soak in every hug, toast, and smile. Spreading the celebration across several days shifts the focus from sticking to a strict schedule to truly being together. With thoughtful planning, a multi-day wedding doesn’t have to break the bank and the memories it creates are priceless. MULTI-DAY CELEBRATIONS 39

Follow your nose Founder of Lords Fragrance House, Sasha Lord, introduces us to the world of wedding scentscaping We’ve noticed wedding scentscaping becoming a growing trend in recent years as part of the boom in personalising big days to the max. Modern couples are constantly seeking new ways to create immersive celebrations that speak of their love story and individual personalities. So, with scent being a key link to memory, it’s a natural evolution in using the senses to achieve this, adding to the existing essentials of utilising sound through music, sight through theming and decor, and taste through cuisine. Here, founder of Lords Fragrance House (lordsfragrancehouse.com), Sasha Lord, shares her top wedding scentscaping tips to set you off in the right direction. “Scents have such a powerful link to memory, so choosing a fragrance carefully will evoke the special moments of your special day,” Sasha explains. “A personal approach will create a unique olfactory experience tailored to the specific theme, style and overall ambience of your wedding. “Your wedding’s location, venue and style play crucial roles in determining the scent to perfectly enhance the day,” she continues. Indeed, whether you’re getting married in the woods, by the seaside, in the city or in the country, these factors will guide and influence your aromatic choices for distinct fragrance preferences. “Look at your space and how you can encapsulate its essence: the flowers, the setting and surrounding landscape, and even seasonal nuances,” Sasha says. “Your choice of fragrance should resonate emotionally and evoke the special significance of that chosen place, to capture long lasting memories of the happy feelings associated with your wedding. “Wedding scents have traditionally focused on the bride and groom’s personal fragrance, but you can create a lasting, memorable experience for everyone by scent-scaping throughout your wedding day. Carefully curating fragrance in the form of candles, diffusers, essential oils and even scent sachets around your spaces will evoke specific moods, emotions and themes. Much like visual elements, such as flowers and table settings, scent can contribute to the overall ambience and create an instant memory of the joyous day!” 40
