Fragrance of the past Wales Perfumery has announced the launch of The Celts, a collection of five artisanal fragrances inspired by the distinct Celtic tribes of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, and Brittany. The range represents three years of historical research and olfactory innovation by perfumer Louise Smith. Departing from traditional fragrance development, The Celts began with in-depth research into how Celtic peoples lived – what they traded, ate, and celebrated. Each scent features bespoke accords created exclusively for the collection, resulting in compositions that push the boundaries of fragrance creation and offer something truly distinctive for couples seeking a meaningful and unconventional scent for their big day. “I wanted to capture moments lost to time,” explains Louise. “Not just what the Celts wore or where they lived, but what their world smelled like – the scent of Breton mead at ritual celebrations, the icy forests of early Ireland, and wine goblets discovered in Scottish settlements. These fragrances are olfactory archaeology.” For more information, visit walesperfumery.com SIGNATURE WEDDING SCENTS With wedding season 2026 fast approaching, Lush Cardiff is helping nearlyweds make their big day even more memorable with the launch of complimentary wedding scent consultations. Designed to help couples choose fragrances that reflect their style, story and celebration, these bespoke sessions aim to create memories that last long after the final dance of the night. During the consultation, couples are guided through a series of personal questions covering their wedding style, season and venue, colour scheme, music choices, food and drink, and the elements that best reflect their personality and relationship. Based on these insights, a member of the Lush team will offer a personalised fragrance recommendation that complements both the couple and the atmosphere they are creating. Lush Fragrance Category Lead, Lee Howes, says: “Crafting the perfect wedding day is often regarded as an important life milestone. The scents we surround ourselves with should be intentional, enhancing how we want to feel and helping to create beautiful, long lasting memories.” To find out more, visit lush.com HEARTFELT KEEPSAKES Driftwood Designs has released a new collection of folding heart cards. Illustrated by artist Lizzie Spikes, these beautifully crafted cards offer a thoughtful way to show members of your wedding party just how much they mean to you. Inspired by Victorian puzzle cards, the beauty begins with the brightly coloured envelope. When opened, the card pops out into a heart shape featuring one of two striking designs. It then unfolds into four joined hearts, with each panel showcasing one of Lizzie’s bold, colourful illustrations on both the front and back, as well as a dedicated space for a personal message. Two versions of the card are available. One features a floral design on the front, framed by hearts, with the remaining panels decorated with floral motifs – except for one showcasing a pair of doves in flight. The other design is fronted by a red admiral– inspired butterfly, with additional sections displaying hearts, flowers, and striking animals. Victorian puzzle cards, also known as puzzle purses, originated in 8th-century Japan and rose to popularity during the 1800s. Often exchanged as romantic tokens or love letters, these carefully folded cards concealed private expressions of affection or poetry. For more information, visit driftwooddesigns.co.uk 8

It’s a chance for you to enjoy a quiet few moments together as a married couple, while I capture the happiness and excitement of those tender moments. Your wedding is all about marrying your best friend and sharing your special day with the people you love. I want you to look back at your images and remember the happiest day of your life as if it were yesterday. “One of my favourite recent weddings was Lucy and Will’s New Year’s Eve celebration at Delta Hotels St. Pierre Country Club. It was everything a winter wedding should be – calm, elegant, and completely unforced. From relaxed walks through the grounds to natural portraits as the light faded, the day was photographed with a focus on real moments rather than posed perfection. Finished with Champagne and laughter, it was a beautiful reminder that the best wedding photographs happen when couples are simply allowed to enjoy their day.” Love unscripted To find out more about Carl Woodward Photography, visit carlwoodwardphotography.com carlwoodwardphotography.com carlwoodwardphotography.com

OURS Simply Carys and Ryan had a modern, understated celebration filled with thoughtful details and heartfelt moments at Sant Ffraed House Images courtesy of Jodie Hurd Photography Carys and Ryan met at work after they both moved to Cardiff, and it wasn’t long before their relationship began to blossom. Ryan proposed during a romantic break away in Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, where the couple were staying in a charming cottage complete with a patio firepit and a cosy fireplace that helped set the scene for such a special moment. When it came to planning their wedding, the couple visited Sant Ffraed House and instantly knew it was the one. “The music playing and the scent of the candles at the venue definitely won us over – they really added to the atmosphere,” says Carys. “We loved them so much that we chose to have them burning on the day as well.” They opted for a modern, understated theme, using a palette of white and green with subtle hints of mauve. This was woven throughout the day, from the bouquets, arch, centrepieces and bridesmaids’ dresses to the finer details. Their cake continued the theme beautifully: a three-tier white design featuring acrylic initials and delicate sugar paper flowers on one side, with the bottom tier inspired by the corset detailing on Carys’ dress. Guests were gifted small boxes of chocolates tied with black ribbon and finished with personalised covers displaying the couple’s initials and wedding date. The stationery tied everything together with a black-and-white design accented with gold leaves. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and canapés, before sitting down to a wedding breakfast and later indulging in pan-Asian inspired dishes in the evening. Carys wore the Wrenley gown by Casablanca Bridal, from All About Eve Bridal. The sleeves were custom-made by Rhiannon J Ltd – Cardiff Alterations, using material ordered directly from the designer. “The sleeves were a last-minute addition and Rhiannon absolutely smashed it – they were perfect,” explains Carys. “I knew I wanted an A-line skirt and originally thought I wanted a completely plain Mikado dress, but when I tried Wrenley on, I fell in love with the corset shape and the delicacy of the beadwork. It was the opposite of what I’d been looking for, but it just felt right.” Ryan and the groomsmen wore classic tuxedos from Dyfed Menswear, paired with floral pocket squares created by Tina at Forever Green Blooms to match the bouquets – a modern and stylish alternative to traditional buttonholes. The bridesmaids were free to choose designs they loved, all in the same colour, from Ever Pretty. To keep their guests entertained, the couple hired Woo Illustrations to create live drawings throughout the day. “This was such a lovely addition,” says Carys. “We also had an Ultramirror from UltraBooth later in the evening, and garden games outside provided by Sant Ffraed House.” Reflecting on their wedding day, Carys and Ryan describe it as everything they had hoped for. “It’s so difficult to choose just one favourite memory,” shares Carys. “Seeing all of our family and friends together was incredibly special, as was meeting some of Ryan’s friends who live far away, and spending time with his mother and sister who flew over from Goa. But my favourite moment was having a little time just for the two of us, walking through the field at sunset and taking it all in together.” After planning such a memorable celebration, the couple shared their advice for future newlyweds. “My top wedding tip would be not to stress about the small things – it all falls into place,” says Carys. “Stress only takes away from the enjoyment of the journey. My biggest blessing during planning was my mum, who could easily give professional wedding planners a run for their money. She helped pull everything together beautifully, although I never want to see another Excel spreadsheet ever again!” REAL WEDDINGS 17

Steph and Dan met online through a dating app and have been inseparable ever since their first date. In 2022, Dan, ever the romantic, planned a magical trip to Füssen, Germany. “Nestled in a fairytale town surrounded by snow-covered mountains, we wandered through wintery streets before taking a horse-drawn carriage through the snow,” says Steph. “After walking up to the breathtaking Neuschwanstein Castle, Dan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.” Gileston Manor was the first venue the couple visited, and they instantly knew it was the one. “It was important to us to get married in South Wales, somewhere close for family, but also somewhere we could return to with our daughters as they grow up and tell them our story,” Steph explains. “We also wanted to feel completely transported, and Gileston Manor did just that. The manor, the gardens, the temple – it had something for everyone, so we booked it there and then.” Dreaming of a fairytale wedding, Steph and Dan brought their vision to life with a talented team of suppliers who understood exactly what they wanted to create. A soft palette of blush pinks set a romantic tone, with traditional elements woven throughout the day while still allowing their personalities to shine. Rhian from Wild & Fabulous Flowers played a key role in shaping the look and feel of the celebration. “I can’t put into words the patience and dedication Rhian brought to our day,” says Steph. “She spoke about flowers with such passion that I immediately trusted her. It truly felt like our wedding mattered to her just as much as it did to us.” Rhian helped enhance the venue’s natural beauty with thoughtful floral features, including the arch by the temple and the backdrop behind the top table. Amber from Love Flora Studio created elegant signage and stationery that perfectly complemented the flowers and décor, while Sarah Louise Wedding Planner coordinated the day with an impeccable eye for detail. REAL WEDDINGS 25
For the evening celebrations, the couple chose Food by Sean Catering. “We wanted a relaxed, garden-party feel, and a barbecue felt perfect,” Steph recalls. “They put a stylish twist on it, serving loaded burgers, fries, and an incredible dessert spread that our guests loved. Nic and her team brought so much care and passion – we couldn’t have asked for more.” Steph found her dream dress at Emily Kate Bridal, choosing an Enzoani gown called Aisha. With custom sleeves and a cathedral-length veil for the day, she later changed into a pleated full-length dress with a neck scarf for the evening. “I didn’t have a fixed vision – I just wanted something romantic that made me feel my very best,” she says. “My mother’s reaction sealed the decision, and it’s still one of my favourite memories.” After a few alterations, seamstress Leigh Alexandra ensured the dress felt perfect on the day. Dan complemented the look with a timeless tuxedo from Dyfed Menswear. Steph’s bridesmaids, lifelong friends and her sister, each chose their own light pink dresses. “They’re all different, and I wanted them to feel confident and beautiful in their own choices,” she shares. “The result was stunning.” The couple carefully planned a relaxed day with meaningful moments throughout. A blessing delivered by Steph’s uncle took place in the hidden garden, followed by drinks, a wedding breakfast, and speeches. The cake cutting became a special moment at the temple, before a joyful cocktail hour led into the evening. As the sun set over Gileston Manor, guests enjoyed live music, laughter, and the warm glow of a perfect summer evening. “Sharing our vows while our daughters slept in our arms, the speeches, the cocktail hour – every part of the day felt incredibly special,” says Steph. “It’s impossible to choose just one favourite moment.” 26

Soft yet striking, this pink shoot reimagines a timeless venue with confident colour and modern styling Images courtesy of Carmel McCabe Photography PINK Bronwen from Bridal Reloved Cardiff had a vision for a bold pink shoot, incorporating bright shades into the décor against the white walls of Rosedew Farm. Photographer Carmel McCabe explains: “Everyone knows those crisp, stone-white walls, so we wanted to show them in a different way and add some contrast. The contrast of a limited colour palette really pops, and the suppliers Bronwen chose were the perfect team to bring the vision to life.” Pretty in STYLED SHOOT 29

Fur-ever AFTER The joy (and reality) of pets at weddings For many couples, it wouldn’t feel right to say “I do” without their four-legged family member nearby. From ring-bearing dogs to horses in engagement shoots, pets are increasingly woven into wedding celebrations in ways that feel both deeply personal and undeniably charming. As traditions loosen and couples prioritise personalisation over formality, dogs, cats, and even more unconventional animals are stepping into ceremonial roles once reserved for humans. For some, pets are the companion adopted together, the constant presence, and the quiet comfort during stressful planning moments. Add in the post-pandemic surge in pet adoptions and the shift toward outdoor weddings, and it’s easy to see why pets now feel less like optional guests and more like nonnegotiable family. Wedding planners report that involving pets is no longer considered niche. Couples aren’t just asking if pets can attend – they’re asking how to include them meaningfully, whether that’s a brief aisle appearance, portraits before the ceremony, or simply having them nearby for the day’s quieter moments. PAWS AND PLANNING As charming as a pet-filled ceremony may be, logistics are where romance meets reality. If you’re planning to include your best friend in your wedding, the first step is speaking to your venue. Many have strict pet policies, size limits, or insurance requirements. Even pet-friendly venues may restrict where animals can go, particularly around catering areas or indoor spaces. If your venue is happy for your furry friend to attend, it’s important to consider the environment. Weddings are often loud and crowded, which can be overwhelming for animals. Professional pet handlers are increasingly common, so consider hiring one. They can manage walks, water breaks, cue your pet’s appearance, and ensure a discreet exit if needed, allowing you to focus on the day itself. FOREVER INCLUDED If your beloved pet can’t be by your side on the day, whether that’s because the venue doesn’t allow it or they’re particularly anxious, that doesn’t mean they can’t be part of the celebration. Thoughtful alternatives include naming a signature cocktail after your dog, incorporating custom illustrations into signage or stationery, wearing a subtle charm engraved with your pet’s name, or scheduling a relaxed photo session on another day. These gestures allow you to honour your bond without placing unnecessary stress on either yourself or your pet. PAWFECT ROLE Not every pet will be comfortable walking down the aisle with the rings and that’s completely fine. The key to a successful pet appearance is matching the role to their personality, energy level, and training. Never pressure your animal into a role they won’t enjoy. Calm, confident dogs may thrive as ring bearers or flower pups, while curious or easily distracted pets are often better suited to a quick photo appearance before the ceremony. Popular options include 34
honorary guest-of-honour roles, gettingready photos, or a brief “hello” during the ceremony, followed by a graceful exit before the festivities ramp up. The goal isn’t perfection; it’s comfort. A pet that feels safe and relaxed will always photograph better than one pushed beyond their limits. SIMPLY FETCHING A dog in a full suit may be undeniably adorable, but comfort should always come first. A simple bow tie, floral collar, or ribbon often makes just as much visual impact with far less fuss. Any accessories should be lightweight, securely fastened, and familiar enough that they don’t distract or restrict movement. Seasonal considerations also matter. Summer nuptials call for breathable accessories and frequent water breaks, while cooler celebrations may require planning around rain, uneven terrain, or longer fur. Harness-compatible florals are safer than collars alone, and non-slip footwear can be worth considering for venues with hot pavement or slick floors. PACK THE TREATS Preparation is key to a smooth, stress-free wedding. Exercising your pet earlier in the day will help release excess energy, while sticking to their usual feeding schedule can prevent tummy troubles. Bring any familiar items, such as your pet’s favourite blanket or toy, to provide comfort in unfamiliar surroundings. A small pet kit is essential. Include water, treats, waste bags, wipes, a leash, and any necessary medications so everything is on hand when needed. FUR AND FEATHERS While dogs may dominate the wedding pet spotlight, they’re far from the only animals to make a meaningful appearance. Cats, for example, are deeply bonded to their owners but are also creatures of routine. Crowds, loud music, and travel rarely suit them, making a full ceremony appearance impractical. Instead, a few intimate photos at home, a cameo during the getting-ready process, or a beautifully illustrated nod in signage can feel far more comfortable for your pet. For couples who own horses or are getting married at an equestrian venue, including them in the day can feel deeply symbolic. Horses often feature in engagement sessions, arrival photos, or grand exits rather than during the ceremony itself. Because they’re sensitive to sound, energy, and sudden movement, professional handling and careful planning are essential. Goats, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, and other farm animals can add whimsy and personality, particularly to outdoor or rustic celebrations. These animals should always be sourced through professional providers who prioritise animal welfare, crowd control, and insurance requirements. Typically, they’re present for short, supervised interactions and removed before the festivities escalate. When handled responsibly, they create unforgettable moments without compromising safety or comfort. Including pets isn’t about spectacle – it’s about celebrating the love that already fills your life. Whether they make a brief appearance or are honoured in quiet details, pets bring warmth, authenticity, and a little joyful unpredictability to the day. The sound From the walk down the aisle to the last dance, the right entertainment shapes every moment of a wedding day – setting the mood, guiding the energy and creating memories guests will never forget OF YOUR DAY From the first note that plays as guests take their seats to the final song of the night, music shapes the rhythm of a wedding day. Whether it’s a string quartet at the altar, acoustic sounds during drinks or a packed dancefloor after dark, the right entertainment ensures every moment of the celebration feels personal and unforgettable. In this feature, we break the day into three key moments to help make planning your wedding feel effortless rather than overwhelming. THE CEREMONY Choosing the music for your ceremony is often one of the most emotional decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding day. These are the songs that tell your story as a couple, music that reflects who you are and your journey together. Do you have a song that instantly takes you back to a special memory? The ceremony is the perfect place to use it. Typically, you’ll choose a handful of pieces for this part of the day: music to welcome guests as they arrive and take their seats, a song for the bridal party or couple’s entrance down the aisle, something to accompany the signing of the register, and finally, a joyful recessional as you leave the room as a married couple. Each moment offers an opportunity to subtly shift the mood, from anticipation to emotion, and ultimately celebration. One of the first decisions to make is whether you’d like live or recorded music. Live musicians, such as string quartets, harpists, solo pianists, acoustic guitarists or vocalists, bring a sense of atmosphere and occasion that’s hard to replicate. The soft swell of strings as you walk down the aisle can instantly transform a space, creating a magical feel and leaving a lasting impression on your guests. Recorded music, however, comes with its own advantages. It allows you complete freedom to choose a specific version of a song you love, whether that’s an original recording, a meaningful lyric, or a track that simply wouldn’t work live. It also offers flexibility, enabling you to cue multiple songs seamlessly throughout the ceremony. Modern ceremonies are increasingly moving away from tradition when it comes to music choices. Couples are embracing non-traditional aisle songs, instrumental renditions of pop tracks, think Bridgerton-inspired strings, and music that reflects their cultural backgrounds or blended heritages. These thoughtful choices add a personal layer to the ceremony and help make it feel entirely your own. It’s important to discuss your music choices with your wedding coordinator and officiant early on. They can guide you on where music fits best within the ceremony, how long each piece should be, and provide timing cues to ensure everything flows smoothly on the day. Practical considerations also play a key role. Volume and acoustics are especially important if you’re marrying outdoors or in a large church setting, where sound can easily get lost. If you’re using recorded music, consider speaker placement so all guests can hear clearly. For live musicians, think about positioning and projection. Weather is another factor for outdoor ceremonies, electrical equipment and instruments may need shelter, so ensuring performers are comfortable and protected will help everything run without a hitch. A great place to start is by speaking directly with your chosen supplier. Not only can they answer questions, but they’re also a valuable source of inspiration. If you’re feeling unsure about song choices, they’ll often have a list of emotional, tried-and-tested pieces guaranteed to bring a tear to your guests’ eyes.
