We have finally made it through the hottest part of the year! For many, there’s a shared sigh of relief but for others, a cry for what was a particularly warm summer. I’m strongly in the group who are relived that it’s finally over – I’m a winter baby and I find it easier to handle everyday life when I can snuggle up in a jumper. Plus, this half of the year has so much we get to look forward to – Halloween, fireworks, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve! All fantastic opportunities for a party and all of which offer a strong dose of autumn/ winter character. I love the way brands lean into the marketing for these celebrations; I know I’m consumerism’s best friend because you put a pumpkin or a snowflake on a regular product and I’m all over it. So, how are weddings going to shift this season? Well, with the arrival of colder months, we find that couples like to opt for more intimate celebrations. They’ve got their partying out in the summer, and now they want to cuddle up and have a small bash for their nuptials. In this issue we look at intimate weddings, and also how you can master wedding day flowers. Grab a blanket, a warming drink, and let’s dive into the world of autumn weddings! This isn’t the only news the company has to shout about at the moment; they’ve also won Best Wedding Fayres in Wales from the Global Awards in London. Last minute décor! ADU Weddings (a part of All Doved Up) offers wedding décor packages to couples in South Wales. The company is running a limited time offer for couples getting married in December 2025 and January 2026; nearlyweds can have the full venue styling package and chocolate strawberry tower (for up to 50 guests) at a discounted rate. Usually priced at £485, couples can now book it for £385 for these two months – perfect for those who may have left the finishing touches to the last minute. alldovedup.co.uk THE PERFECT WEDDING GIFT The new personalised Wedding Anniversary Charts from Lizzie Spikes at Driftwood Designs are the perfect wedding gift. With the couple’s names handpainted by the artist herself, alongside the date of their special day, these prints will take pride of place on the newlyweds’ wall. Plus, the unique design showing all the anniversaries and their corresponding gifts, means that no significant wedding anniversary will ever be missed! With most couples cohabiting before they get married, the traditional gifts designed to help newlyweds set up home are no longer relevant. This makes it much harder to find a gift they can cherish and remember from their special day. These anniversary prints offer the perfect solution. The prints are available in English, and Welsh for Driftwood Designs’ local customers. Each one is printed to order at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth with long lasting, fade resistant archive quality inks. The prints can be purchased in sizes A5, A4 and A3 and you can gift them unframed or choose a solid, handmade, wooden frame in either natural ash or textured white. With prices between £35 and £58, the prints are an affordable gift option. driftwooddesigns.co.uk BERRY GOOD NEWS Fruity Bouquets in South Wales has recently announced its expansion further afield. Before, the strawberry tower services were only available to those in South Wales, but this has now expanded to additional areas. Interested couples are encouraged to reach out to discuss logistics, but this is ‘berry good news’ for all in the area! The company’s iconic strawberry towers are the perfect amusebouche for guests between ceremony and wedding breakfast, or even as the main event during the party! Made in its South Wales kitchen, the fresh strawberries are lovingly dipped and decorated by artisan hands – nothing screams luxury than a fresh strawberry dipped in decadent chocolate. fruitybouquets.co.uk LATEST NEWS 7

The rise of What is a micro-wedding, and should you consider it for your nuptials? THE MICRO-WEDDING Micro-weddings have seen a notable rise since 2020 and have taken the wedding world by storm. People are ditching the large lavish affairs, trimming their guestlist and opting for more intimate celebrations – with just 50 people or less in attendance. But is this the right choice for you? Whilst you may save some pennies, what are you losing in the process? You may not know hundreds of people, but in stripping back your guestlist, you could be missing some key players. To decide if an intimate wedding is the one for you, here’s a list of pros and cons to help weigh-up the most important decision of your wedding. Once, we’ve ascertained if this is the celebration for you, we can then dive into guestlist suggestions and the catering – two factors greatly impacted by the decision to keep things small. “Quality over quantity. Just because your wedding isn’t as large as others you’ve attended, doesn’t mean it is any less special. It’s all about the quality of the people invited and not the quantity.” INTIMATE WEDDINGS 17

PROS • It’s likely to be a lot cheaper than your standard 150guest party. • There will be less to organise on the day. Of course, no matter how big or small your wedding is, there will be lots to plan for. But with smaller supplier orders to organise, that’s less stress for you! • More time for the finer details. We’re talking time to handwrite personalised letters to guests, trying your hand at some creative carfts, and fussing over floral arrangements. • Smaller venue. This could be a pro or con, depending on the wedding you have in mind; for price tag and decoration fuss, a smaller venue is a massive positive. • Takes pressure off you and your partner. With less people to please, the pressure is naturally lifted from you both. You will also greatly reduce the risk of family politics creating arguments on the day. • Quality over quantity. Just because your wedding isn’t as large as others you’ve attended, doesn’t mean it is any less special. It’s all about the quality of the people invited and not the quantity. • Freedom with food and cake. When you have less guests to cater for, you have much more freedom with food choice. The reduced number of mouths to feed means that you can have bespoke food services. With cake, this also means that you can skip tradition and opt for cupcakes, a dessert table, or even an icecream van. • It’s a step up from elopement. If you’re wanting a small party but won’t get away with eloping (we’re looking at you, mothers-in-law), then micro-weddings are the step between running off and a lavish wedding. • More time with guests. When you have less people in attendance, you can spend more time with the guests who did make the cut. Doing the rounds at the wedding can mean that couples don’t get a chance to eat their food or have a break – with less guests to chat with, your schedule becomes less hectic. CONS • Run the risk that it doesn’t feel as grand. Without a large guestlist, the celebration could get lost in the impressive rooms of a venue. The key is injecting more personality with your venue styling and entertainment to make it stand out. • Might not be able to book large venues. It may not work out cost-effective to book the larger venues if you have a small guestlist. This doesn’t mean the venue is off your list of possibilities, but the chances are reduced if you can’t fill the great halls of a manor house. • Upset people by not inviting them. When you have a smaller guestlist, there will inevitably be the awkward moment of having to make difficult decisions. You are not going to make friends by keeping the list short, but you have to weigh up what is more important to you: the people or the numbers? • Might not be as lively. With a smaller guestlist, you may not have as many crazy party moments. Of course, it all depends on those in attendance, but it could take more to coax your partygoers out of their shells. unsplash.com.@vadimparipaphotography unsplash.com.@tamaragovedarov 18

NARROWING DOWN YOUR GUESTLIST Who makes the cut and who gets the chop? If you’re ready to go ahead with your micro-wedding, then you need to start thinking about who is going to be on the exclusive list of attendees. Immediate family, of course, make the list and will include anyone from your mum and dad to siblings on both sides. After that, we have grandparents, this could swing both ways and depends on your relationship with them – if you’re going for a rowdy party, then maybe arrange something separate with them. Close friends: whoever isn’t in your bridal party but are still considered close friends, should make it onto your list. Extended family you’re particularly close with like cousins, aunties, uncles, and whoever else comes to mind, should all make the cut too. The easiest rule to follow when deciding who should be there is, if they mean a lot to you and are in constant contact with you, then they deserve a chance at attending. Who are we not inviting? Anyone who hasn’t spoken to us in the last six months! If you can’t be bothered to loosely keep in contact through a message here and there, then you don’t deserve a seat at the table. Obligation invites are also not something we are wasting our time on, just because they invited you to their wedding five years ago, doesn’t mean you have to invite them to yours. Work colleagues – this one completely depends on your relationship with them, and they may even fall under ‘close friends’ category; but just because they’ve caught wind of your wedding, doesn’t mean they are obliged to an invite. Plus ones, absolutely not, sorry – there will be no strangers at this exclusive event. CATERING OPTIONS As one door closes, another opens; in the case of microweddings, as the guest list decreases, the food opportunities increase. With having a smaller wedding, you have more freedom with the style of food you include. Instead of having the formal three-course meal, you can swap this out for an informal and flexible food truck. This type of catering works particularly well if you are having an outdoor wedding and want guests to freely stroll up and get food, as and when they want it. It also creates a bit of a festival atmosphere – which is amazing if you are hosting a summer wedding! Branching off of that, we have the ever-popular barbecue; a classic in any British garden, in the summer, and well-suited to more causal weddings. Barbecues have a decent range of food to please the masses, can be cheap to do, and the food can be nibbled on throughout the day. There’s no need to gorge yourself on a three-course meal and then drag your full tummy to the dancefloor. From here, we have the natural jump to mobile pizza ovens – rising in popularity, understandably so, and firmly making its way into wedding itineraries. Pizza is a crowd-pleaser, customisable, easy to eat for all ages, and just simply tasty. You could even offer a signature pizza; the same way people offer signature cocktails at their wedding. Plus, pizza is the sort of food that could make for some fun images in the wedding album – cramming a roast down your throat doesn’t have the same aesthetic. Moving onto a sweeter note, we must consider the opportunities for an ice cream van at your wedding. The instant and fleeting sense of excitement you get as an adult when you hear the tones of an ice cream van whizz past, can be recreated on your wedding day. If you are planning a wedding in the height of summer, then I cannot recommend enough adding this food truck to your supplier list! There’s plenty of options, it’s customisable (signature soft serve), and it’s an easy food for all age groups. If we are going to discuss sugary goodness, let’s not forget the wedding cake. It’s become a stereotype that the wedding cake is ignored after the initial slices have been taken from it, and that’s a lot of money to spend on something to be neglected. The joy of a micro-wedding is that with less people to cater for, you can opt for a smaller cake with more details and more flavour! Hopefully, the standout nature of this smaller bake will wow guests enough to leave the cakeboard empty. You can always bolster your sweet display with some cupcakes or doughnuts if you’re concerned about there being enough for your guests. unsplash.com.@hellojiro 20

LIKE MAVE Rave Sophie and James’ wedding was party central and made for an exciting day at Sugar Loaf Barn Images courtesy of Ana Parker Photography Sophie and James first met when they were 11 and in school, but it wasn’t until they were 15 that a romance would bloom. When it came to popping the question, James pulled out all of the stops to make it as special as possible. The lovely couple were holidaying in a treehouse in Devon in 2023, and had just got out from the hot tub, when Sophie ran inside to warm up (this was in February so there was still a bit of a chill in the air). Little did Sophie know that James was outside setting up the dream proposal. James had lots of candles outside and with the help of Mollie, their springer spaniel, asked Sophie to marry him. Talk about romantic! The wedding was set for 24th May 2025 at the Sugar Loaf Barn. Sophie is a wedding photographer, so knows her way around the local venues – which is what brought her to Sugar Loaf Barn. Sophie adds, “I remember going to this venue in 2019, way before we got engaged, and thinking this is the type of place I’d love to get married in.” When James went to view it with Sophie, the venue wasn’t set up for a wedding, as it was lambing season and the farmers were busy at work, but he could see the potential and they both noted the farmers’ passion behind the wedding venue. Sophie and James’ theme was ‘pastels mixed with wild garden’ and it looked perfect against the backdrop of the Abergavenny hills. Where they could, they injected elements of their personality in the big day with the placement of surfboards, for James’ love for surfing, and country songs throughout the day for their shared love of the genre. They also had nods to Mollie throughout, with her gorgeous face appearing on beer mats and cocktail stirrers – so guests could be reminded who the real star of the show was! On each table, they had some strategically placed disposable cameras as a reference to Sophie’s profession, and guests were encouraged to pick them up and snap some shots throughout the day. Other personalised items at their wedding included a bright pink neon sign which had been personalised to say ‘Rave like Mave’ - a homage to Sophie’s nan, Mavis, who had passed in January this year but was looking forward to the wedding. This was paired with potted plants dotted around the venue which had various Mavis quotes scribed onto them. Sophie wore an A-line dress designed by Dando London and bought this from Timeless Elegance in Cardiff. Sophie’s chosen gown was picked out with her uncle and mum present – who also paid for it, as an early wedding gift. For added sentiment, she had both of her nan’s names embroidered on to her veil by Ceri Joanne Price from Llantrisant; who has worked in TV and film and came highly reccomemended by Sophie’s uncle. Sophie got the honour of showing her grandad this detail and he loved it! James wore an earth-toned suit jacket from Moss Bros, paired with black trousers and shoes. The groomsmen wore threepiece suits from Slaters in Cardiff and the bridesmaids wore a mix of lilac and pink dresses, which they all chose themselves. When it came to entertainment, Sophie and James went all in, with the inclusion of a magician, a singer, beer pong, photobooth, band and DJ – they also had their best man Rhodri perform a DJ set during the cocktail hour! All of this underlined many memorable moments throughout this couple’s special day. REAL WEDDINGS 25

Matrimony Musical Sammi and Alex’s wedding at Green Grove Barn was highlighted with a neutral palette and pampas Images courtesy of John Wellings REAL WEDDINGS 31

This lovely couple met at a wedding Sammi was performing at, and Alex stood out to her as one of the only people truly committed to the dancefloor. After the wedding, Alex approached Sam to enquire about booking her band and, of course, had to get her number! They now live happily with their two sons, Theo and Lennon. Getting married wasn’t on Sammi’s radar; it wasn’t until Alex overheard her discussing families with their son, Theo, that he thought he got the green light to propose. Alex popped the question to Sammi on Aberavon Beach – Sammi’s favourite place on earth – with a ring fashioned out of an orange skittle and a strawberry lace (Sammi is a self-confessed sweet-aholic). Alex’s love for the outdoors was the driving force behind their venue decision, paired with Sammi wanting to get married at a venue she hadn’t performed at – making Green Grove Barns the location for their dreamy nuptials. They adorned this already stunning venue with burnt oranges, pampas, fun details and even a Pringles tower! Yes, you read that right! 32

Tambourines as wedding favours was a no-brainer with all of the musicians in attendance, and these doubled up as place names for the guests, making for a unique table setting. Placed around the centrepieces of pampas, they were a bohemian dream! Sammi, her bridesmaids and her sisters all came together to make the bouquets and buttonholes for the special day – a sentimental touch from the bride. Their wedding featured two luxurious cakes, and they were the spotlight on the dessert table, which the couple later got behind and served to their guests. The venue was styled to include rattan, muslin, wooden beads, eucalyptus, white crockery, and black cutlery. They also added their own version of a card game to the lineup – Cards Against Matrimony – which led to some outrageously funny remarks from their guests. Sammi wore a dress by Enzoani in a style that she felt would match the pampas; Alex wore a dark green suit by Hugo Boss; the bridesmaids rocked burnt orange dresses from Ever Pretty, and the groomsmen wore linen trousers from Next with a tan waistcoat. Sammi’s mum also made Theo and Lennon matching tan waistcoats which Sammi says, “is something they will cherish forever”. A standout moment for the couple was the Pringles tower they featured, which they underline with the phrase “crisps not canapés, forever”. REAL WEDDINGS 33

Flowers are the unsung heroes of weddings and contribute a lot to the overall theme. Their delicate beauty speaks more than just breathtaking colours and shapes; they are rich in history and can send a very romantic message. Understanding your chosen blooms helps with the overall decision-making process. It all depends on whether you want to send a message with your florals or if you’re more focused on the colour story. We’ll unpack everything you need to know about big-day blooms and also help you pick the right florist. To appreciate flowers at a wedding, we should understand where they come from. Like most traditional celebrations, they are steeped in history and often come from humble beginnings. The history of flowers at weddings starts in ancient Greece and Rome. In Greece, the included florals were laurel wreathes and olive branches and symbolised peace, victory, and eternity. In ancient Rome, a more practical approach was taken, and fresh herbs like rosemary and thyme were used to protect the couple against evil spirits; encouraging fertility and good fortune. The history of wedding flowers THE BLOOM The detail’s in Dive into the history behind wedding day florals and how to pick your bunch unsplash.com.@hayffield unsplash.com.@rebeccamatthews 42

Moving onto the Middle Ages, the people of this time took inspiration from the Romans and were focused on natural remedies to protect the newlyweds, such as fresh herbs and flowers. They used strong-smelling herbs (including garlic) to ward off evil spirits; which was paired with the scattering of fresh blooms in front of the bride’s path to protect her. Progressing into the Victorian era, we have the introduction of floriography and the rise of flowers as romantic symbols at weddings. One of the most popular floral choices from brides in this time was orange blossom – this is because Victoria wore an orange blossom crown on her wedding day to Albert. Orange blossom represents purity, chastity, and eternal love; the perfect message to send on your wedding day. Other popular blooms included ivy, which represents fidelity and strong bonds, and lilies of the valley, representing happiness and humility. It’s at this point in floral history that we align ourselves most with the modern bouquet practises. Typically, people will focus more on the colour scheme of flowers, however, the beautiful language of blooms remains ever present in our selection. unsplash.com.@debrupas FLOWERS 43

GIVING THEM A SECOND LIFE After falling in love with the blooms on your wedding day, knowing they only last a few days is disappointing to say the least. However, there are many ways you can give your flowers a second life! If you look after your bouquet on the day, you can then have them either expertly dried and framed, or set in resin to make a keepsake. If you want to preserve them, there are a few things to consider on your wedding day. Avoid the bouquet toss, your flowers will be battered from the throw and the scramble to win them. If you want the ‘throwing the bouquet’ moment, then you’ll need to get a throw-away bunch made in preparation. You will also need to keep your bouquet in water as much as possible throughout the day, and to store it in a cool, dark room before shipping it to your chosen preserver. On the day of postage, seek advice on how to pack and choose the fastest delivery available to you. Alternatively, a lot of couples give out floral arrangements at the end of the celebrations for people to take home with them. This is a great option if you want to leave the venue as clear as possible at the end of the night, and they act as great mementos for loved ones. A lot of brides also chose to take the floral arrangements to elderly homes, even better if you have a relative staying there. You may also decide to drop the arrangements off to graves of loved ones who couldn’t be there on your special day. It’s a beautiful way to share the love and to recognise those you would have loved to invite. CHOOSING THE RIGHT FLORIST Now that you have an idea of what blooms you would like to feature at your wedding, the time has come to book a florist. With everything else in the wedding market, there is lots of overwhelming choice and it’s hard to know who the right person for the job is. Here are few tips to help you decide on who should get the honour of supplying blooms for your special day. Check out their socials: When you load up their Instagram or Facebook page, does their work excite you? Can you picture those bunches on your wedding day? If not, then they might not be the one for you; your taste could simply differ from theirs and that’s absolutely fine, but it’s back to the drawing board. Check the reviews: The best way to get an understanding of a business is to check the reviews. If they conduct themselves well, the reviews will speak for themselves. However, the odd bad review can be very quickly explained and shouldn’t be held against the suppler – if there are lots then perhaps take it as a sign and walk away. Discuss customisation: If you have a particular vision for your wedding flowers, don’t be afraid to speak up with your chosen supplier. However, you need to remain open to their advice and understand that not all blooms are available. Wedding blooms depend on varying factors, such as season and location. pexels.com.@Dmitry Zvolskiy 44
