A hidden gem Editor Danielle Harvey had a delightful stay at Bush Hotel Farnham Visit https://farnhambush.com T: 01252 715 237 E: reception@farnhambush.com When driving through the historic town of Farnham, amidst the boutique shops, independent eateries, and standout characterful features of this town, it was hard to imagine behind the terraced buildings lies the Bush Hotel Farnham, a hidden gem waiting to be explored. An independent hotel that’s been welcoming guests through its doors since 1618, its instantly recognisable ivy-clad frontage is renowned not only amongst the local community but the county. This original façade is reflective of the hotel’s interior which boasts historic and authentic features, such as original parquet flooring, ceilings beams, fireplaces and murals to name but a few of the extraordinary features. Seamlessly blending its historic charm with modern comforts and styling, its décor sympathetically complements the surroundings; country-inspired colour palettes and luxe furnishings create a cosy ambience throughout. Our Vintage Suite overlooked the courtyard and lawns, its design was synonymous with the rest of the hotel exuding countryside-charm with modern amenities and comforts; our queensized bed, in-room facilities, seating area and spacious bathroom – extra-large bath towels always a plus for me – were a welcomed treat. I would thoroughly recommend booking one of these exquisite rooms for a special occasion. As it was a Sunday, it would have been rude to not indulge in a roast dinner for our afternoon meal in the Oak Lounge. My husband is a chicken guy (he likes what he likes!), however, I couldn’t resist choosing the beef – which was cooked to perfection! Diners also have the options of slow-cooked pork belly or vegan Wellington, all served with crisp roast potatoes, seasonal veg, and rich gravy – and not forgetting a giant Yorkshire pud! I’m never too full for dessert, so my delicious roast was topped with a white chocolate and raspberry delice and washed down with a mocktail! Alternative areas in the hotel for spending quality time together, be it pre- or post-wedding day, would be having a tipple in the Bush Bar and whiling away the hours in the sunshine on the terrace. We enjoyed breakfast in the quintessential Georgian morning room the Garden Restaurant. This unique space certainly brings the outsidein with a conservatory feel, and makes for a fabulous dining and events space. Furthermore, for weddings, the Events Suite is a sympathetic extension purpose-built to offer the ultimate wedding venue. Its design is still reflective of the main hotel, yet boasts state-ofthe-art conference facilities and offers a private, exclusive-use environment for the big day. A Goldilocks-type character when it comes to mini-breaks, I want to be able to explore the surrounding area, yet feel in the middle of nowhere (check); I want an abundance of historic features, but I like modern comforts (check); I want exceptional food, yet in a relaxed environment (check); and, I don’t want to travel too far but want to feel I’ve been away (check). So, for me, Bush Hotel Farnham has got everything just right! REVIEW 81
