I can’t begin to tell you how much happier it makes me to get home in the light and still feel like I have some day left to live. It’s around this time of year that I convince myself anything is possible and sign myself up for events and commitments (that I will 100% regret). I’ll strop around the morning of, and then thank myself when I’m home, that I actually went out instead of staying home and rewatching The Crown for the billionth time. Can we all agree that Claire Foy make us want to speak in a really posh accent? The pull a royal wedding seems to have on us, as a nation, is why so many couples are now looking to recreate this on their special day. Jessica and Adam Darlow, from one of our real wedding pieces, did exactly that at their wedding in June 2024. What better way to say ‘I do’ then when you look like a reallife princess? But how else can you rule the wedding world? In this issue we will dive into everything from dream venues to the trend of short gowns. I hope you enjoy this stunning collection of real weddings, Q&As and fashion debates, as much as I did putting them together. LUSH SPA IS READY TO UPLIFT YOU Lush, known for its revitalising scents and phenomenal products, is offering a new 50-minute facial, Rewilding, at its Cardiff Lush Spa. The luxurious facial utilises hot and cold therapy, facial massages and lymphatic techniques to make the skin appear sculpted and rejuvenated. The quality of your skin is at the forefront of what Lush do, so this facial has been created by its in-house spa development team, achieving maximum results with minimal interference. The treatment begins with a double cleanse, where Lush’s gentle signature cleanser, Ultrabland or vegan alternative Ultraplant, is massaged into the skin and removed with warming mitts. Drop of Hope soap is then applied for a foaming cleanse using facial brushes, containing moisturising rapeseed oil from Fukushima; which provides a vital source of income for people who lost their livelihoods in the nuclear disaster. The oil extracted from the seeds do not contain any irradiated caesium, as this is left behind in the plant – making it completely safe to use. Lush’s firming and brightening Ayesha face mask is then applied. Lush purchases this beautiful oil in collaboration with the Orangutan Information Center in a way that doesn’t further damage the forests of Sumatra, Indonesia – and in fact aids its regeneration using permaculture practices. All of this is massaged into the skin and neck, focusing some tension-relieving rubs on the shoulders and head. Full of Grace facial serum is then applied to the face and neck, combined with some expert technique to leave you glowing. To bring you back into the room and out of the euphoric state of relaxation, an uplifting cold therapy mask containing witch hazel and peppermint jelly is applied followed by the Gorgeous moisturiser or a tailored alternative. The Rewilding facial (£125) is available to book now via the app or your local Lush Spa www.lush.com/uk/en/shops 10

Love at first sight Peterstone Court would set the scene for Emma and James’ dreamy wedding Images courtesy of Vanessa Rodrigues 24

Emma and James met online and knew straight away that they had a lot in common. Their instant connection formed a genuine bond where they could talk about anything without fear of judgment – a very strong building block for any successful marriage. Emma recalls, ”We knew quickly that we were right for each other; it was very much a case of, when you know you know. This was confirmed when we first met in-person, as James was bowled over by the ‘lady in the blue coat’.” In June 2023, James tested the waters and asked Emma if she would be interested in upgrading their relationship status to fiancée and start hunting for a wedding ring. Of course, Emma engaged in the idea and embarked on the search. They found a ring in Chester on the way back from a weekend away in North Wales. The official proposal came in July 2023, when James got down on one knee with both sets of parents present. The ring was found, and the date was set for 21st September 2024. Here we find out more... SETTING THE SCENE Finding the right venue can sometimes feel like an impossible task, but when Peterstone Court landed on Emma and James’ lap, it felt like fate. Emma is from Wales and James has family links to Brecon (where this gorgeous venue is set) so they got the best of both worlds! Additionally, the venue is dog friendly so their black labrador, Barney, could be in attendance. The venue was also large enough for them to shelter inside if it rained and had on-site accommodation – meaning that their nearest and dearest could stay the night. Peterstone Court ticked all their boxes and made for the perfect setting for their dream day. The colour scheme for Emma and James’ wedding consisted of green, white, ivory, and lots of pampas! To further embody the theme of green, the couple selected wildflower seeds, personalised with their names and wedding dates as the favours. The table plan was homemade and was a cork board with eucalyptus trim and design to match the wedding invites. The couple used faux flowers throughout the venue, matching the colour scheme of greens and whites. The flowers for the centrepieces were paired with log slices and candles, to highlight the romantic atmosphere. For after the ceremony, the couple opted for canapés and welcome drinks provided by the venue, which was followed by a three-course wedding breakfast and barbecue in the evening – what a splendid spread for the guests! The couple adorned the impressive mantelpiece with photographs of themselves and the family, giving the venue a ‘home away from home’ feel. Details like this go a long way to make the whole wedding feel like a celebration of you. Of course, venues host a whole manor of guests in a year, but it’s how you leave your mark on the day that makes the difference. Emma adds, “The piano also had photos of our relatives who are no longer with us, as well as the lyrics to our first dance song – You Got It by Roy Orbison”. LOOKING THE PART On the day, Emma wore an A-line champagne-hued dress with matching shoes, complete with a cathedral-length veil. For accessories, she honoured the age-old tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Emma’s earrings were her grandmother’s, her right hand was decorated with a Clogau ring (a gift from her parents who also got one for James), and her headpiece was a taira borrowed from her bridesmaid, Emily. James commemorated the day by wearing a three-piece dark grey suit, with brown shoes and dark green matching handkerchief and tie. He completed the look with cufflinks gifted from Emma in a coin design, personalised with the year of their wedding. Emma’s bridesmaids wore floor-length dark green dresses with lace detailing and styled their hair with dark green clips and clear crystals. 25 REAL WEDDINGS

Emma recalls, “They played a wide variety of music and were great with our guests. They also matched the party lights to our colour scheme of green and white!”. Keeping on the theme of music, Emma and James also included a Welsh male voice choir for their special day. Emma goes on to add, “They had a classic mixed with contemporary repertoire, and they mesmerised our guests with their act. They performed at the end of the wedding breakfast, before the evening got started, and they were phenomenal. The acoustics in the room were fabulous and enhanced their set”. While the wedding breakfast was underway, the couple arranged for a caricaturist to go round to each table. Emma says, “Charlie was great fun, and you could hear our guests laughing and enjoying his drawings – not to mention his brilliant sense of humour”. “The whole day was magic! It rained biblically but it didn’t matter. It was simply a brilliant day from start to finish.” – Emma MEMORABLE MOMENTS For Emma, elements of the day that really stood out to her were seeing her dad as she walked down the stairs, seeing James at the end of the aisle and the first dance. For James, it was the epic choir, seeing the ceremony room set up the night before, and the wedding speeches. For both, they enjoyed how all their guests really enjoyed themselves; with 40 guests for the day, they were able to lean in the intimate feeling of the day and make some special memories with loved ones. Other honourable mentions go to Barney, the black lab, who on the day wore a ‘Best Dog’ printed bandana provided by the Dogs Trust. They also used baby pictures of the couple to denote bride and groom seating for the ceremony. Emma adds, “This was an unusual and humorous way of indicating who should sit where”. TOP TIPS! To beat the wedding nerves, Emma and James suggest taking the pressure off for the day to be a performance; you may have a lot of family and friends around you who need different levels of attention, but the day is all about the love you and your partner share. Emma goes on to suggest, “Before buying anything, we thought about what we would do with the items after, as both of us hate waste. For example, we hired the top table centre but the other table centres we bought – these were later divided up and gifted to our family as a memento”. “Don’t feel obligated to invite people because you think you have to. Invite those who you truly want there! An intimate wedding of 40 can be made to feel like a massive party with the right venue and suppliers.” – Emma Finally, don’t feel pressured to ask for presents if you can’t think of anything you really want or need. Emma and James asked for donations to their chosen charities via JustGiving, Marie Curie and Dogs Trust were their selected charities and was a beautiful way to spread the love! 27 REAL WEDDINGS

Love at first swipe Angharad and Lewis tied the knot at The Orangery in Margam Park Images courtesy of Huw and Dale Photography 28

Like many of us in this modern world, Angharad and Lewis met online through a dating app. Angharad recalls, “As I’m a teacher, I thought I would add a humorous part to my bio and said that there were perks to dating a teacher, one of those being unlimited milk and cookies. Of course, that’s what made Lewis swipe right!”. Angharad goes on to add, “We all know that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach (he now has diabetes, so there’s obviously such a thing as too many cookies)”. Their time getting to know each other highlighted their shared interests in ice hockey, Formula 1 and spending time outside. These mutual hobbies enabled the conversation to blossom and grow, to a point where their connection was nothing short of natural. “It was as if we had known each other for years.” –Angharad Connection turned to love and in turn, turned into marriage; but how did Lewis pop the question? Angharad answers, “Lewis bought a couple’s card game called ‘You’ve Been Served’. We were each allowed to serve one another cards that contained challenges. I served a card that required him to arrange a surprise day trip, which led us to Margam Park. During our day out, Lewis suggested we head to some church ruins to get a picture (Lewis is an avid photographer, so knows a good shot when he sees one). Begrudgingly I obliged, despite the bogged down grass we had to cross; Lewis gets the picture and to my surprise, gets down on one knee. He had written the question on a Post-it note and sacrificed his best card from the card game in the process. Of course, the answer was an easy yes.” The date was set for 26th October 2024 at The Orangery, Margam Park. Here the bride tells us more... SETTING THE SCENE Having got engaged in Margam Park, it felt only right that the couple would tie the knot there. The Orangery is such a beautiful location, so made the perfect backdrop to their special day. Angharad says, “From breathtaking grounds, spectacular castle shots and a venue we could mould and shape to reflect us as a couple, The Orangery had it all. The venue was a blank canvas, and I had made the decision early on to create the décor myself. Creating the flower arrangements and flower arch was a real labour of love, but worth all the stress!” The couple chose a sage green, white and gold wedding theme to suit the noble grounds of The Orangery. They complemented the clean and crip aesthetic of the venue with fresh greenery and white flowers; a theme that was also highlighted in their stationery. Angharad goes on to add, “We opted for a natural theme, not to take away from the natural beauty of the venue itself. Using splashes of gold throughout the décor added elegance but amplified our colour choices of sage green and white”. The beauty of your wedding day is that you get to tell your love story all over again, an opportunity this couple made the most of. Angharad tells us, “It was important to me that our day captured us as a couple, so we named our tables after places we had visited throughout our relationship and included a story of its importance”. For part of their entertainment, the couple decided to set their guests a challenge – a great way to keep them on their toes! The challenge was to solve a crossword based on questions about the couple, and they could also guess what the first dance would be during the drinks reception. These challenges provided ample entertainment, while the beautiful couple were off having their photos taken. For cake, the couple perfectly tied in the theme and the venue to their naked bake. Opting for a two-tier cake, they decorated it with fresh greenery and white flowers. To pay homage to their dogs, they added clay sculptures of their furry friends taking bites out of the cake. Hopefully there was some left for the guests! The couple also included some meaningful tributes to loved ones who are no longer with us. Angharad recalls, “I had a charm placed in my 29 REAL WEDDINGS

bouquet to commemorate my Bamp, who was like a father figure to me. Lewis had a suit pin made to honour his grandparents. Pictures of them all were next to us when we signed the register, they were then moved onto a memory ladder during the wedding breakfast”. LOOKING THE PART Angharad opted to design her own dress with the help of Sam at Pink Butterfly Brides in Bridgend. Having a clear vision, Angharad went to try on some off-the-rack options to pull elements from them all. Angharad says, “I wanted an A-line dress, with sleeves, and patterned lace”. She goes on to add, “Given the long aisle walk at The Orangery, I opted for a longer train to really show off the dress. I’m so glad I did, because the scope it gave with photos was great!”. Pink Butterfly Brides took Angharad’s dream and made it a reality, complete with a corset, scallop-edged skirt and lacy leaf pattern – further embodying the greenery throughout the venue. Lewis wore a grey Welsh spirit, eight-yard, pure worsted wool kilt, paired with a black traditional Prince Charlie Argyle jacket and waistcoat from Dyfed Menswear. Wanting her bridesmaids to be comfortable on the day, Angharad allowed them to pick their own style of dress in sage green. The best man matched with the groom and wore a kilt, and the groomsmen wore sage-green flannel suits to complement the bridesmaids dresses. TIME TO CELEBRATE! To continue the theme, the couple asked their friend Craig Thomas to play his viola during the key moments in the day; moments such as the guests being seated, and more importantly, during the drinks reception. Craig played covers of popular songs and even learned Angharad and Lewis’s favourite song Shivers by Ed Sheeran. Angharad comments, “Our guests absolutely loved listening, and he provided the perfect soundtrack to our drinks reception”. It’s not every day you can say that alpacas were in attendance at your wedding, but for this couple they can! Angharad recalls, “The resident alpacas of Margam Park were also part of our drink’s reception. Guests were able to feed and pet them throughout this time”. MEMORABLE MOMENTS They say that your wedding day is the most special day of your life, but it can also be your most stressful. Angharad recalls how they kept their cool, “several people commented on how chilled we both were on the day! The hardest part was setting up the venue in the morning, but this was completed with the help of our family and friends, whom we can’t thank enough. Once the venue was set up, I was able to relax, and all Lewis needed to do was turn up and remember the rings.” Something that stood out to the couple on their special day were the commitments to one another. Angharad adds, “We were grateful for the opportunity to share our day with those who mean the world to us. Having our dogs Arya and Wanda present for part of the drinks reception was one of the highlights of the day. It was lovely to see them and have memorable moments captured with them both”. Putting your own stamp on your wedding day is important for every couple; you want your guests to know that this really is the joining of two souls. To do this Angharad and Lewis chose a unique way to incorporate their shared love for ice hockey, “We had Cardiff Devilsthemed flags made and asked to be announced into the room exactly like the team are announced onto the ice. We had our bridal party wave flags and our DJ to play a pre-recorded announcement from the Cardiff Devils’ managing director, Todd Kelman. We used the same theme music as the team but put our own spin on the announcement,” recalls Angharad. The two people that stood out to the couple on the day were Huw 31 REAL WEDDINGS
