AND BACK To the moon Jess and Cam said “I do” beneath the stars at We The Curious on 26th April, 2025 Images courtesy of Ivy & Pine Photography During a trip to St Ives, while sitting on the headland overlooking the bay, Cam handed Jess a photo book full of memories with the last page asking, “Will you marry me?” Noticing the emerald ring Cam was holding, she was in floods of tears before she even reached the end! The couple tied the knot at iconic Bristol venue We The Curious, a place already part of their love story, and found themselves influenced by the Planetarium. So, in its honour, they selected a palette of dark, rich tones with a hint of celestial sparkle and a touch of old Hollywood glamour. “We both appreciate a vintage aesthetic, so we settled on an antique astronomy theme,” Jess shares. Together, they sourced clothbound books to match the palette, a collection of vintage style bottles to fill with flowers, gold Moravian stars as centrepieces, dark velvet drapes, and a collection of stargazing curiosities to scatter around the space. Jess also designed a table plan based on a vintage poster of an annotated map of the moon. Jess was faced with dress disaster when the boutique she ordered her gown from went into administration two months ahead of W-day. However, a panicked visit to an offthe-peg store later and the bride-tobe found the one all over again! “It shimmered beautifully under the lights of the Planetarium,” she remembers. She accessorised with a handcrafted celestial headpiece gifted by her new motherin-law and attached to her bouquet a gold pendant engraved with words from a letter her late mother had written to her. Cam wore a bottle green velvet jacket with heirloom gold thistle cufflinks and a new gold pocket watch with a moon phase window – a wedding gift from Jess. Meanwhile the wedding party was dressed to complement the palette in dark blue and burgundy. The newlyweds served Pieminister pies and Wiper and True beer, supporting two fantastic, Bristol businesses. Both the venue and in-house caterers pride themselves on their sustainable approach, making them a match made in Heaven for the couple who share the same ethos. The event staff at We The Curious arranged access for guests to explore the exhibits between the drinks and wedding breakfast. “It was lovely to hear stories of bridesmaids climbing through the soft play area and guests meeting a robot!” Jess says. Jess and Cam both agree that their favourite part of the day was meeting each other under the stars for their magical wedding ceremony. Their dreams came true when they said “I do” beneath a projection of the night sky from the night they first met. “The Planetarium has a great capacity for guests but feels so intimate due to the shape of the space,” Jess explains. They were able to make the ceremony personal by asking friend Liv to sing during the star show following the vows. We asked Jess for her top tips, to which she replied, “Well, Cam recommends taking all the fun out of wedding planning by using an agile project management approach and breaking things down into actionable tickets to avoid overwhelm!” REAL WEDDINGS 17
