Now, it’s quite the milestone year for me for two reasons: I’m reaching the big 4.0 and I’ve been working in the world of wedding for 20 years! Wow – where has that time gone? Luckily for me, I still love my job and the industry, it’s a close-knit community that support and champion each other. It’s an important role, being a part of someone’s wedding day, and there’s not a supplier I haven’t met that doesn’t value, respect and enjoy being involved in a couple’s nuptials. From the cake maker that has lovingly spent hours icing the perfect petals on to each tier, to the stationery designer that has hand-drawn the venue for your invites; the DJ that’s spent late nights planning the perfect playlist for you, to the seamstress that’s painstakingly hand-sewn pearls on your veil – local suppliers really do go above and beyond for every wedding, every couple, because they simply love what they do and know how important it is to you both. Because of this passion, I still get excited every issue about the different things I come across, a new favour idea, a real wedding couple doing things differently, or an unusual first dance song, I still love it all – and I’m still surprised by couples, suppliers and love, all know no bounds. Here’s to another 20 years, hip hip hooray! Happy reading Your North West Wedding is solely owned, published and designed by Ellis Media and Events Ltd. BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE Gretna Green has completed a £300,000 renovation of its toilets, transforming them into a unique weddingthemed experience. In collaboration with local business CPM Joinery & Building Ltd., also based in Gretna, the project celebrates Gretna Green’s rich wedding history dating back to 1754. The newly renovated toilets feature displays of Scottish wedding traditions, including the quirky ‘Bury a Sausage’ custom, where a bride buries a cooked sausage the night before her wedding to bring good weather. Near the sinks, visitors will experience an immersive feature: a looped video of a couple having a handfasting ceremony in front of a Gretna Green anvil. The anvil is a symbol of the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, where couples have been eloping since 1754. When entering, visitors walk down an aisle with oak pews, arched mirrors, wooden beams, and floral arrangements, creating a traditional wedding atmosphere then choose to use the Grooms (male) or Brides (female) toilets, which even features a sign with a kilt. All toilet fixtures are motion-activated for a touch-free, hygienic experience, and Scottish-made soap and hand cream are provided to support Scottish businesses. The official opening took place on 5th March 2025 after the wedding of Linda Coombes and Henry Masterson, who cut the ribbon and unveiled the new toilets to the public. Gretna Green also plans to enter the Loo of the Year Awards, celebrating excellence in washroom design and has recently announced an £8million investment in a major revamp of the Famous Blacksmiths Shop site, set to enhance the visitor experience over the next two years. IT’S PARTY TIME! Pops of colour and lots of disco balls defined Abi and Ryan’s fun-filled wedding day Images courtesy of Rachel Ovenden Abi and Ryan’s love story starts at The Range, where they both worked. Abi had it as a weekend job while she studied and Ryan worked there full time. After a few months of working together, Ryan plucked up the courage to ask Abi on a date. The nerves got the better of her and she responded with ‘I’ll let you know’. Ryan thought this was it and he’d missed his shot! A few days later, Abi messaged, and they arranged their first of many dates. Abi recalls, “Ryan always says I seemed quite a shy, quiet girl at work, but he soon discovered I was an absolute chatterbox around him! There was a spark from the very start, and we just had so much fun spending time together”. After a few weeks of dating, they were officially ‘boyfriend and girlfriend’. Ryan proposed to Abi whilst on holiday in Brighton on the 17th July 2023, surprising her in a photo booth! “We’d been on a trip to Brighton five years earlier and used the same photo booth,” shares Abi. To commemorate this very special memory, the couple had a photo booth at their wedding which guests could enjoy. The ring was on, and the date was set for 28th March 2025 at The Glass House in Staining. Here, bride Abi tells us more... 22

It was very special for me that my mum made the wedding bouquets and buttonholes. She is a very talented and creative lady who studied flower arranging in the past, and now owns a card and gift shop where she creates amazing balloon displays. My bouquet was full of gorgeous roses, again including that pop of hot pink. My brother drove me, my dad and maid-of-honour – he works for Volkswagen so had a lovely car with bows on! The designs included a lot of hot pink, wavy lines and a retro font style which created a bright, colourful and fun vibe! I was so delighted to receive so many wonderful comments from our guests and suppliers on the stationery that I have now started my own wedding stationery business called Happy Abi Designs – something I have always wanted to do! The Glass House was absolutely gorgeous! The light the room gets through those large glass windows is beautiful and we were lucky enough to have the sun shining on us during the ceremony, which felt even more magical. As the room is so bright, white and all about the light, it makes it a beautiful blank canvas – allowing you to personalise it with any theme you like. 23 REAL WEDDINGS

The talented Bash Parties & Events created a bespoke package for us. We asked for bright and colourful pink and orange flower arrangements and disco balls! Their styling paired with my stationery, created exactly the fun vibe we wanted. The arrangements just popped against the backdrop of the venue! Becky’s Bakes made a delicious two-tier buttercream cake, decorated with pearls to match the pearls on my veil. I had a gorgeous hot pink bow made for the cake by my wedding dress seamstress E&R Bespoke Design – matching my dress as it had bows on the shoulders. To top it off, we had a retro font pink cake topper with our names. Each table was named after a year we had been together; starting from 2017, and each one had a photo of us from that year. I wore a dress called Nia in classic white by Alberto Palatchi from The Ivory Dressing Room. The simplicity and material of the dress made it feel quite modern and elegant – but the bows on the shoulders brought that bit of fun and personality to it. I also loved the A-line shape. I accessorised it with silver platform heels, a pearl veil and jewellery. We chose some delicious canapés including fish and chip cones, honey mustard glazed chipolata sausages and mushroom arancini with pesto mayo. The main was a classic chicken dinner which was amazing and so was the dessert, sticky toffee pudding. Our favours were personalised chocolate bars that said ‘Love is Sweet’ designed by me. I designed the table plan and it was the perfect way to direct our lovely guests. 24

We had one best man who wore the same navy suit but with a navy waistcoat (the same suit as the dads). We also had one maid-ofhonour, who wore a maxi pink dress from Ever Pretty. It’s the only way we can think to describe it! We both could not stop smiling all day. We just felt so much love for each other and all our family and friends who were there to celebrate with us. We felt so lucky! The day went so quick, we wish we could relive it all over again! Of course, we had to have a photo booth since we got engaged in one! It created a lot of excitement, and it was so much fun – matching the theme perfectly! Our guests posed with props and got as many photos printed as they liked – plus one in a guest book for us. Ryan wore a navy suit with a stone-colour waistcoat by Marc Darcy from Squires. He accessorised with dark brown shoes and belt, a personalised silver tie clip and the gift I got him which was a Boss watch. “Don’t ever feel like you’re behind on wedding planning or feel bad that you’ve not done something yet that should have been done months ago (according to checklists or someone around you). On the day, put any little worry aside and just enjoy every moment surrounded by all your loved ones. The day goes by so quickly! – Abi My mum and dad kindly gifted me some diamond earrings as a wedding present and my mum gave me her diamond necklace, which was my great grandma’s, so that was very special. Ryan got me a wedding gift which I opened on the morning – my something blue, which was a bracelet with a Tiffany blue heart on. Our magician Darren Robinson was a huge hit at the drinks reception! There was so much excitement and laughter – and his magic was unbelievable! I remember looking around and seeing quite a few of our guests, who didn’t know each other, grouped around him and enjoying it together – so it was also a good ice-breaker to get people chatting and having fun. LOVING Nadia and Matthew tied the knot at King Street Townhouse and their wedding was the stuff of dreams! Images courtesy of Stella Photography City 26

Nadia and Matthew met 11 years ago at JD Sports, Trafford Centre, where they both worked. Nadia oversaw the junior department, and Matthew supervised the changing rooms (conveniently for this love story, the changing rooms were located next to the junior section). Work chat turned to flirty banter, and it wasn’t long before the couple were enthralled by one another. Matthew recalls, “we both played hard to get and to this day still argue over who made the first move; although, it was Nadia that slid into my DMs first wanting to ‘swap a shift’, which was code for do you want to go on a date”. Matthew knew pretty quickly that Nadia would be a keeper, so he asked her to be his girlfriend on New Year’s Day 2014 and 10 years later the happy couple would be getting married! When it came to proposals, Matthew had a couple of planning hiccups to navigate. After just two years of dating Matthew wanted to put a ring on Nadia’s finger, and luckily, her friend Becky worked in jewellery! Equipped with an expert friend and his mother, Matthew could begin the hunt. In 2019 he found the perfect ring and was now ready to pop the question, but what location would be the one? Matthew details, “I decided to book us a holiday to Cape Verde for May 2020 and had booked us a private meal on the beach whilst we were there, and that was to be my nerve-wracking moment to pop the question to Nadia… then COVID struck… the holiday was cancelled, and my plans were in tatters”. Suddenly we were all locked in our homes, and for Matthew he had a ring burning a hole in his pocket. Matthew adds, “from our bedroom window you can see Rivington Pike, and I thought that would be nice, we can see the place I proposed every morning when we wake up. So, that’s where I popped the question, not quite Cape Verde but still very special nonetheless”. “We go to the same spot every year and pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate and reflect on the proposal (and the proposal that should have been!)” – Matthew SETTING THE SCENE When looking for the right venue, Matthew and Nadia had a clear vision, something that felt like an extension of themselves. For this couple, King Street Townhouse was the one and everything dulled in comparison. Matthew adds, “Every time we went back for meetings or the wedding open days, we fell in love with the venue more and more. The staff, the food and the attention to detail on everything was faultless”. Matthew and Nadia opted for a green and white wedding theme with formal black and white attire for the bridal party – how chic! Keeping the theme of townhouse-chic going, the wedding favours were personalised miniature alcohol bottles so that guests could celebrate them ‘tying the knot by taking a shot’. The couple are big tequila connoisseurs so felt this was the most fitting celebration of their love. The second wedding favour was a deeply special one, Nadia explains, “we donated on behalf of the guests to The Christie charity to commemorate them having taken such good care of our uncle Wayne! I handmade some little notes to add to each keyring we enveloped for the guests”. For table plans, name places, and table runners, the couple opted for a design featuring green and white hydrangeas to tie in the theme. This tied in nicely with the floral arrangements and candles making up the centrepieces. The vision for this couple was classic and elegant, Nadia comments, “Adi at Verdure Floral 27 REAL WEDDINGS
