It’s official, I’m a married woman – eeek! After being engaged for nearly 18 months, and with all of the lockdowns and uncertainty, it’s been quite a rollercoaster of emotions, but I couldn’t have asked for a better day. It seems like just yesterday that I was telling our loved ones that we were engaged, and here we are as husband and wife (I don’t think I’ll ever get used to saying that). My number one piece of advice is to enjoy the process and make it about what you want. We found that many of our nearest and dearest were quite vocal about what they wanted and how the day should be, which can feel quite overwhelming at times but try to remember it’s meant to be about you and your partner. Pick things that you want, and that will make you both happy and forget about everyone else. The day goes by in a flash so take some time out just the two of you to have a chat and take everything in. Things will go wrong, but that’s okay. On the day, you won’t notice the little things, and all that will matter will be celebrating with your friends and family. Surround yourself with people that you love and trust. My bridesmaids were amazing at keeping my nerves in check and making sure I felt like a special bride. I couldn’t have asked for better, and I can’t wait to look back on our photographs with them. This issue is full of inspiration, we highlight the latest cake trends, meet local musicians and entertainers and take a peek at gorgeous venues in Cumbria. If that’s not enough, we also look at showstopping wedding dresses and wow-factor honeymoon destinations. If you’d like your wedding featured or have been involved with a styled shoot, you can submit it at: www.yournorthwest.wedding/get-involved-real-wedding Melissa x Melissa Cullen, Senior Editor Whimsical and romantic, this breathtaking styled shoot took place at Farleton Knott Wedding Barn. 67 81 12 These boho-inspired dresses in luxe lace and flowing fabrics were made for fun and flirting. The owner, Sue Mounsey, tells us more about the company: “Our stones are of the highest quality available, we start by hand-cutting them and then hand-polishing to create a lasting lustre. All our items can be made from a variety of golds and sterling silver with gold/rhodium plating. For bespoke items, we discuss the customer’s dream ring and draw a computer-aided design to meet their specifications. Once they’re happy, we will manufacture the ring, which will take approximately six to eight weeks. Bespoke designs require a mould to be made, meaning it’s more time-consuming and expensive, but we are certain you will love the finished look and treasure it for many years. We also offer an after-care service should you ever want your items re-dipped, polished or repaired.” Discover more at www.desertdiamondsjewelry.com NEWS Nearlywed TRAVEL IN STYLE The Lake District is known for its breathtaking scenery, peaceful walks, and luxurious hotels, making it the perfect destination for a romantic getaway. FLORAL ROMANCE Blossom Resin By Verity in Lancashire is a new company offering flower preservation. Couples can choose from a three-piece initial set, ring holders, paper weights, love signs, coasters, wall hangings and much more. We spoke to Verity McNally, the owner, to find out more about her company: “You plan your wedding down to every detail, and before you know it, you will be happily married! Being a floral preservation specialist, I know how best to dry your flowers and create stunning bouquet resin pieces that you will cherish forever. Epoxy Resin is a two part compound that, when combined, makes a chemical reaction and hardens to a solid piece that, once dry, means you can keep your wedding flowers forever. I have more than two years of experience using trusted methods. After my own wedding I delved into drying my wedding bouquet and preserving in resin, and now I give the same love and care to all my couples’ pieces. I can preserve whole flowers, press smaller blooms or use the petals to make a confetti-style design with something to suit every taste and budget. I am also launching a new bridal jewellery collection that ranges from minimal classic to boho chic pieces. All flower preservation orders are taken via my social media pages, so you can easily ask me any questions and it means I will get to know your style and preferences before making your piece. For all jewellery pieces and other resin creations, visit my Etsy or social media pages.” Head over to www.etsy.com/uk/shop/blossomresinbyverity and www.facebook.com/blossomresinbyverity for more information. NEW COMPANY ALERT! Shimmer North Cumbria is a new company offering shimmer sequin wall backdrops for weddings and special occasions. Based in Cumbria, the company offer a range of colours and designs to choose from. The owner, Catherine Moffet, tells us more: “We feel our shimmer walls are the missing piece to a gorgeous wedding day, adding a touch of class, luxury and a beautiful backdrop for special memories. We have recently purchased a glimmering gold shimmer wall, perfect for the big day and have branched out into bespoke balloon garlands to add a luxury feel to the walls. We offer neon signs which always go down a storm!” The team will be attending Cumbria’s Premier Wedding Show at Carlisle Racecourse on the 25th September, which is the perfect opportunity to discuss your big day with them. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/shimmernorthcumbria STYLED TO PERFECTION Allure Venue Styling, an event styling company in Cumbria, is collaborating with a new business called The Creative Cup. This creative café provides a variety of workshops for the community, and Allure Venue Styling will soon be providing wedding workshops to help couples plan their special days. Dai Watson, the owner, said: “I have had a lot happen since the relaunch of the business in October last year. The company has suddenly exploded, and I’ve gone from working out of my own home to having a dedicated office and enough work that I’ve reluctantly had to turn events down. The new premises in Cleator Moor, from which Allure Venue Styling and The Creative Cup will be based, gives me the opportunity to run bridal workshops and small hen parties. This is still very much in its infancy, with the hope to open in September this year and for the bridal workshops to begin shortly afterwards. These workshops will cover everything from how to budget for your wedding, plan your day and how to create DIY décor.” To find out more, visit www.allurevenuestyling.co.uk and www.thecreativecupcumbria.org HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Flower B Florist, a studio-based florist in Lancashire, is celebrating two years of business. Owner, Belinda Buckley, tells us more: “I created Flower B Florist after my passion and love for all things flowers made me want to launch my own brand. Before this, I had worked as a florist for more than 15 years. Throughout my career, I have worked all around the UK in some fantastic locations for weddings and special events, giving me vast experience and knowledge. I offer a personal one-on-one service with the flexibility of venue and home consultations. Each design is bespoke and created by hand in a very natural and relaxed style using seasonal flowers. I love to make floral dreams come true and create everything from bridal bouquets to showstopping centrepieces and archways.” Check out more at www.flowerbflorist.co.uk www.mahoneypics.com www.orangeivyphotography.com GettyImages 10

CUMBRIA Spotlight on... LONG ACRE BARN, CA10 3BS 07739 709 841 | www.longacrebarn.co.uk Set in the Eden Valley, Long Acre Barn is discretely located on a working farm amongst pastoral countryside with stunning views across ancient woodland and a flower meadow. There’s a rustic, Victorian charm throughout, with a long drive through open fields and the sandstone barn and granary lovingly restored in a natural, pared back way to create an authentic venue. The exterior is welcoming with a large patio and pergola, and the windows and doorways framing the barn are flooded with natural light. Long Acre Barn has been in the Addison family since 1859, and like many farming businesses, the owners explored several diversification options before deciding to transform the space into a wedding venue. After two years of planning and a further two years in renovation, the barn was completed, with the first weddings successfully taking place. Every part of the décor has been thoughtfully planned, including the oak and larch used for the staircases, bar, pergola and doors and the recycled animal drinking bowls incorporated into the patio walls. Celebrate in style With a wedding licence for the whole venue, couples have the flexibility to tie the knot anywhere at Long Acre Barn – from the orchard, lawns or Log Store to the main Barn or Granary. As a venue with lots of break out options, it can easily cater for any wedding. On the left side of the property is The Barn and Granary, which has a large sandstone patio, pergola, and quirky wall. The Barn can accommodate up to 140 guests throughout the day, while the Granary can hold 30. The Victorian orchard is a very relaxing space, with a meandering hoggin path leading to the walled garden, a patio and a seating area outside the Barn. There’s also a large lawn that overlooks the woodland and wildflower meadows. Across the lawn is the Log Store, a fun and quirky covered space with a firepit, lights and room for 40 nearest and dearest. It’s perfect for barbecues and hog roasts or creating a festival vibe and comes complete with a glitter ball tied to the corrugated roof with a piece of baler twine. We love... With acres of space, there’s plenty of room for camping, and there are family cottages nearby. For couples, there’s a traditional farmhouse cottage with a stunning dual-aspect master bedroom complete with a copper bath, which is included the night before and evening of the wedding. www.jonosymonds.com www.jonosymonds.com 15 REGIONAL VENUES

ASKHAM HALL AND BANK BARN, CA10 2PF 01931 712 350 | www.askhamhall.co.uk Askham Hall is a late 12th century Grade I listed castellated Pele Tower building. The main house was extended in the 1400s with various annexes, and again in the 16th and 17th centuries when it was transformed into a grand Elizabethan mansion. Bank Barn is one of the largest vernacular Cumbrian bank barns ever built. The terraced gardens are Grade II listed and full of stunning features, including colourful terraces, a 230ft long double herbaceous border, unusual species of plants, formal lawns, kitchen gardens, woodland, meadows and ponds. Inside, the property combines modern furnishings and fresh décor with the charm and character of this historic house. Featuring a stunning barn, outdoor pavilion, Michelin starred restaurant, 19 bedrooms, terraced gardens and an outdoor heated pool. Celebrate in style The largest wedding space is the charming Grade II listed Bank Barn, which has been sympathetically converted into a first class wedding venue. With original features, bare stone walls, an open-beamed oak ceiling, contemporary lighting, an oak dancefloor and large glass doors, this really is a special setting for celebrations. The Medieval Hall is a slightly smaller space within the courtyard of the main house on the first floor with a capacity for up to 70 friends and family. It connects directly to the bedrooms and dates back to the 1400s with original oak beams and two large fireplaces. Smaller ceremonies take place in the main house on weekdays, including in the original oak-panelled Dining Room, which seats up to 18 loved ones. Alternatively, the Outdoor Garden Pavilion is also licensed for ceremonies, weather dependent, for up to 150 people. We love... Couples will receive a voucher to try food at the sister pub, the George and Dragon Clifton, which uses the same ingredients and has a similar cooking ethos. The venue also offers a complimentary night’s stay for couples in return for the use of their wedding imagery. LINDETH HOWE HOTEL, LA23 3JF 01539 445 759 | www.lindeth-howe.co.uk Originally owned by Beatrix Potter, Lindeth Howe Hotel is a traditional country house situated in six acres of stunning countryside. The owners have invested £1million and combined the original decor with modern amenities to create a grand venue that’s perfect for weddings. The property has a private drive, free parking for guests, outdoor seating and space for a grand fireworks display. Celebrate in style The largest space available is the Restaurant which can hold 120 people. Couples can walk down the red carpet and admire the beautiful magnolia tree that’s visible through the windows. Boasting a large apex roof, the Hilltop Room has art on the walls, large hanging plants and room for 40 guests for the service. The Morning Room is where Mrs Potter used to sit and wait for her daughter, Beatrix, to arrive for tea. The last space available is the Sitting Room. Boasting garden views, a fireplace from the original house and a bay window where Beatrix used to sketch, it’s capable of holding 16 friends and family for the vows. We love... The happy couple can personalise the menu to suit their needs and will receive a complimentary anniversary stay. www.amb-vision.co.uk 16

ONCE UPON Elyse and Kyle had a princess-inspired wedding at Bolton School Weddings & Events Images courtesy of S&J Walkden Photography & Film a time Elyse and Kyle lived close to each other but didn’t meet until a night out. “We were best friends from the second we met,” says Elyse. “Not long after we’d put a deposit down on our first house, Kyle proposed on my birthday. It wasn’t much of a surprise as he had told me he wanted to be with me forever.” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day... REAL WEDDINGS 27

For our favours, we gave our guests little boxes of chocolates. We wanted to show off the room, so we opted for a combination of tall and small centrepieces. We also had a floral arch and flowers from The Lavender House that lined the aisle. Kyle and I decorated the room with a large dancefloor, a post box, Chiavari chairs and a curtain behind the top table. I attended the wedding in my dad’s Tesla, and Kyle arrived in his friend’s car. We hired a car from Special Wedding Cars for the bridesmaids, which they loved. Our cake was a four-tier design from Victoria Cakes. It had a castle on the top and our wedding date and initials written on it in navy icing. We’re both from Bolton and had always loved the exterior of Bolton School Weddings & Events. We didn’t know it was also a wedding venue until we visited during a wedding fair and fell in love with the inside too. 28

I wore a Morilee gown called Surim 2146 from Ava Rose Hamilton. The dress was not what I expected at all! It just felt perfect when I tried it on, and since the design was very princessy, I decided I wanted to wear a tiara and a long veil. We had a pianist perform as I walked down the aisle. He made our day fantastic and played everything we asked for and even took requests! We hired a DJ for the evening, who was brilliant and we even played Mr and Mrs. The day was amazing, and I don’t think there were any dry eyes during the ceremony. Kyle and the groomsmen chose grey suits from Slater Menswear. The bridesmaids opted for navy, elegant dresses that looked beautiful. I cannot thank Rebecca Karen Wedding Design enough as she made sure everything ran smoothly on the day. 29 REAL WEDDINGS

LUXE Winter Wendy and Andy tied the knot at St Michael’s Church in Clitheroe before celebrating at Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn Images courtesy of Niki Mills Photography 32

Wendy and Andy met at a tribute night. “I had a run of personal losses, including my best friend, partner and dad,” says Wendy. “I had left nursing and wanted to focus on taking over my own bridal shop when I went on a Blondie tribute night. It turned out Andy and I had mutual friends and we hit it off immediately. He was so understanding and compassionate, and I have never felt more cherished. After only a matter of weeks, he never went home. When you know, you know!” Andy popped the question during a surprise weekend away. “We went to Manchester for the night and then got the train to York the following day,” shares the bride. “My mum had been admitted to a home with her rapidly developing Alzheimer’s, and so once Andy proposed, we booked our wedding within six months to try and ensure she could make it and still know who we were.” SETTING THE SCENE “We only visited two venues, and when we saw Browsholme Hall and The Tithe Barn, we knew immediately it was the place for us,” explains Wendy. “We both got goosebumps and booked it the same day! As it was so close to Christmas and everyone was in need of a good celebration, we decided to create a very intimate, festive day with a good party that we all deserved!” The couple gave their guests seeds as favours. “These were attached to their place names and placed on a small log slice with hand-painted pinecones and poinsettias,” reveals the bride. “We decorated the tables with wreaths that were placed around mason jars with lights and foliage. The tables were also covered in petals and wooden hearts.” “Our flowers from Fleur Bloom were used in the centrepieces, and we had a long trail along the top table,” recalls Wendy. “We also had wooden love letters, drapes and lights from the ceilings, a Christmas tree and candles.” Wendy and Andy chose their cake from Jon’s Cakes and placed it on a log slice decorated with eucalyptus. “The food was provided by Twelve Event Management,” remembers the bride. “We had canapés and drinks on arrival, followed by a threecourse meal.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I ordered my dress directly from Badgley Mischka,” says Wendy. “It was a design called Danica which I added floral straps to. It was very sparkly and had a real Christmassy feel to it. I thought I was desensitized to dresses as I see them every day at my boutique, Lacy Days of Ramsbottom, but I cried when I put this one on. My daughter came with me, and we also brought my mum from the home so she could be there.” Andy wore a dark grey suit with a waistcoat and braces from Swarbricks Suit Hire. “He chose a gold tie and pocket square, and his brother, the best man, wore green to match my daughter’s dress,” shares the bride. “The groomsmen had a paler grey suit, no waistcoat and wore burgundy ties and squares to match my sister, who was my matron of honour.” “My daughter, Amelia, had a deep green velvet midi-length wrap dress and my sister, Nikky, wore the same in burgundy,” explains Wendy. “I gave them both a diamanté choker and a snowflake bracelet for the day, and we all had coordinating porcelain hair pins/combs from The Bobby Pin.” REAL WEDDINGS 33
