ROMANCE Natural Katy and Andrew tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at Stanley House Images courtesy of Rachel Ovenden Photography REAL WEDDINGS 19

We chose a three-tier cake provided by Finch Bakery. Andrew and I wanted earthy tones with a neutral colour palette and lots of candles. Creative Venue Stylist in Burnley provided beautiful Mr & Mrs lights, a postbox, drapes with fairylights, chair covers and sashes. Rachel Ovenden Photography was amazing. The aftercare and attention to detail we received was exemplary. Our big-day blooms were from The Flower Shop in Clitheroe. We loved the manor house aesthetic of Stanley House, and the staff were very friendly. Joe and Natalie were amazing and went above and beyond for us. 20

Our guests were entertained by the Northern String Quartet before, during and after the ceremony. Jason Rea Magic then performed at the wedding breakfast, and Stephen Bayliss Corporate Entertainment sang for us in the evening. We were so happy. Every single one of them excelled in what they did and remained upbeat given the uncertain times. Andrew chose a navy suit with a grey tweed waistcoat from John Francis Formalwear. We were very excited but nervous due to the COVID-19 announcements. The run-up to the wedding was very emotional due to the ambiguity, but in retrospect, we feel so fortunate that we were the last wedding at Stanley House before we were put into lockdown. The bridesmaids opted for stone-coloured multi-wear dresses from Victoria Lou Bridal. I found my dress at The White Gallery in Ramsbottom. I went for an elegant Adrianna Papell gown called Kate. I loved that it wasn’t too large in the body, and I added thicker lace straps to create the look I wanted. REAL WEDDINGS 21

THE OF MY light life Charlotte and Steve shared their special day with friends and family at the Clifton Arms Hotel Images courtesy of Creative Camera 24

Charlotte and Steve met at work. “He came in for a job interview at the insurance broker I worked for,” says Charlotte. “Steve said that I was the first thing he saw when he walked into the office. He successfully joined the company, and we hit it off straight away.” Steve proposed during a Caribbean cruise. “We booked it for January 2019 to celebrate our 10th anniversary,” shares the bride. “We’d docked in St Thomas on the morning of our anniversary and had gone to get some breakfast whilst we sat on the deck enjoying the view. Steve said he felt unwell and needed to go back to the room. He returned shortly after and said he wasn’t feeling great, so could we go back to the cabin. Unknown to me, he was perfectly fine but had taken the opportunity to run half the length of the cruise ship and down four flights of stairs to prepare the cabin for the big question. When we got back, Steve walked past pretending not to know where it was so I’d enter first. I walked in, and it was completely dark apart from a small ring box on the end of the bed, open with a single bright LED shining down on the contents. I immediately broke down as Steve told me how much he loved me and what I meant to him. We got engaged then and there.” SETTING THE SCENE “We’d originally planned to get married on a cruise, but due to COVID-19, we decided to choose somewhere local that meant something to us,” explains Charlotte. “Lytham St Annes is a place close to our hearts that we visit regularly. We wanted a venue that had a sea view and a welcoming feel to it. The Clifton Arms Hotel was perfect! It’s an independent family-run hotel that was refurbished in 2020. Bernard, our wedding planner, has worked at the hotel for more than 45 years and was amazing! Nothing was too much trouble.” For their favours, the couple gave their guests candles and home-brewed beer made by Steve. “He designed and printed the labels for the bottles,” adds the bride. “He also created our table plan based around an imaginary cruise itinerary with ports of call being the table names such as Barcelona and Gibraltar.” “Our centrepieces were tall cylinder vases containing dendrobium orchids and floating candles,” recalls Charlotte. “Our flowers were orchids, ivory roses, and blue thistles finished with navy ribbons from Bond & Bloom.” Charlotte and Steve chose a two-tier cake from Treats of St Annes. “It had a Mr & Mrs topper and dangly bride and groom figures,” says the bride. “It was decorated with navy drip icing and made up of vanilla sponge and strawberry jam.” “We decorated the space with a fairylight backdrop, ivory blossom trees, light-up letters, lanterns and petals from Sophisticated Events,” shares Charlotte. “Clifton Arms Hotel were kind enough to arrange the chair covers and sashes for us.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I wore a Stella York wedding dress from Ava Rose Hamilton,” explains the bride. “I loved the lace slim fit style, beaded REAL WEDDINGS 25

crossover neckline and long train. I accessorised with a bag, shoes and a hair clip.” Steve chose a navy suit, grey waistcoat and matching pocket square from The Bridgewater Menswear. To help him stand out, he wore a Rolex pocket watch and Marc Darcy navy tie. “The bridesmaids opted for navy halter-neck dresses from Next,” adds Charlotte. “The design had lace on the bodice and tied in perfectly with our colour scheme.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “To keep our guests entertained, we hired Sarah Davies Harpist to perform during the ceremony and meal,” recalls the bride. “She played a mixture of classical and modern music that sounded great. In the evening, the Brothers Of Swing performed. They sang a wide variety of genres and got everyone up dancing.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We both felt fine on the morning of the wedding, but Steve did get a little nervous when called upon by the registrar,” laughs Charlotte. “After 18 months of the pandemic, it was great to have all our family and friends there to celebrate, and we felt so fortunate and blessed. We’d planned to use a local taxi service to take us to the beach to have our photos taken at sunset, but sadly the minibus was delayed, and the light was fading. This was when our photographer, Simon from Creative Camera, offered to drive the 10 minute trip in his Mini. Without him going the extra mile, we would have missed the sunset and wouldn’t have the photos we truly wanted.” MINIMOON For their minimoon, the couple went to The Woodland Spa in Burnley. “It was wonderful,” says the bride. “We’re planning a seacation cruise around the UK later in the year as well.” 26

THE OF MY love life Childhood friends, Deborah and Joe, tied the knot in a romantic ceremony at her childhood church Images courtesy of Two For Joy Photography Deborah and Joe have been friends since they were nine years old. “We went to high school and college together,” says Deborah. “We had lots of mutual friends and started to meet up when we were both at university and enjoyed spending time together.” Joe proposed at their home seven months after they moved in. “He wanted to take me on a walk, but I was being grumpy and didn’t want to go,” shares the bride. “He decided to surprise me by asking me at home instead.” Here she shares some of her favourite moments from their big day... REAL WEDDINGS 29

The cake was made by one of our close friends. We chose Amy because she makes the best macarons, bakes and desserts. It fel t so personal and really special to us. It was a three-tiered naked design and was just amazing! Joe and I used The Big White Events Company to decorate the hall. We had a spider canopy with festoon lighting, linen on the tables and wooden chairs. It looked great and tied our theme together really wel l. We chose to have round tables, and it was lovely having all our friends and family together in the same room. The Flower Girls, Whalley provided our flowers. We chose blooms that reminded us of a growing meadow that we placed in front of the church and later moved in front of our top table. We chose to get married at Hurst Green and the Parish of Aighton as it was where I attended as a child, and my parents got married there. We had our reception in our village hall. We liked that it was a blank canvas and we could decorate it how we liked. Our favours were created by Joe’s mum and sister. They were glass bottles filled with alcohol, and we gave the children jars of heart-shaped sweets. 30

The bridesmaids opted for floor-length dresses from Amelia’s Bridal Boutique in different shades of purple. To keep our guests entertained, we hired Alex Birtwell Wedding Entertainment. He performed during the drinks reception, welcomed the bridal party into the village hall and got our guests involved in a guess the song game. It was amazing, and everyone was so competitive! Later in the day, the rest of Alex’s band arrived, and we had them play throughout the evening. I wore a dress called Argentina by Modeca from Lulu Browns Bridal Boutique. I tried on a few dresses but kept coming back to the same one again. I accessorised with a long veil and jewellery. Joe wore a three-piece suit from Menswear@Amelias. To help him stand out, he had a different coloured waistcoat from the groomsmen. We used my grandad’s car, which my uncle drove for us. We’re a very close family, and it felt so special for us to be able to use it. Nomad Catering by James Brown provided the fo od. The canapés were delicious, and they catered for vegans too, which was great! We had a lobster cocktail for starter, roast beef for main, and as we wanted a p ersonal touch, we asked our friends and family to make desserts in jars. Everyo ne stepped up to the challenge. We had cheesecakes, Victoria sponges, tiramisu, ev en cheese and biscuits in a jar! We were overwhelmed by how much our guests en joyed making and decorating their desserts. REAL WEDDINGS 31

For our honeymoon, we travelled around Scotland for a week. We planned it together, and it was just perfect! Our top tip for any couple would be to enjoy researching and finding local suppliers. Don’t panic and book the first one you find! At the end of my dad’s speech, we all had a shot o f vodka instead of a sip of prosecco, which I don’t think our guests were expec ting! Our grandparents were there to celebrate with us, which was extra special. One of my best friends, Joanna, sang as I walked down the aisle. It was amazing and quite emotional. The speeches were all brilliant too. Joe had two best men who he has known since he was little, and they delivered a great speech. It was our fourth wedding date due to COVID-19, and we both felt so special and loved. Getting ready at my parent’s house with my bridesmaids was lovely. Although I was a little nervous in the morning, it all went away as soon as I saw Joe. The food from Nomad Catering by James Brown and The Friary Whalley was incredible! We also loved having all our friends and family in one room, including my cousin who had travelled from Vancouver to be there. 32
