It was unusual for him to get flustered, he almost forgot the suits and my dad’s trousers! I was very calm and went for a walk around Bowness with my sister, niece and nephew. I remember feeling a tinge of sadness as my mum was receiving palliative care in hospital and was too ill to come. We’d had lots of chats about this, and she was determined to make this day the best day ever. I started to feel teary as I walked down the aisle, but I saw my best friend Clare wink at David, and that made me smile and feel relaxed. We decided to go a mini-moon straight after the wedding. We went to Fishguard for five days to switch off and relax. In September, we went to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida for our official honeymoon. As big kids, we were really excited and couldn’t wait to explore. My dad’s speech involved photos of me as a baby and David told funny stories about his family. A few months before the wedding, we were discussing wedding music after watching Jaws . David suggested that I walk down the aisle to the film’s theme tune. Whilst I firmly said ‘no’, I wondered if there was a way to incorporate this, so I arranged for the hotel to play the song just before I made my entrance. This caused lots of laughter amongst the congregation and put David at ease. My top tip for any bride or groom-to-be would be to take some time to relax, step back and take it all in. The bridal party and groomsmen were brilliant, as well as Heather and her team from The Belsfield. While my mum couldn’t attend in person, a close family friend stayed with her and Facetimed the whole ceremony. 54
