Your North East Wedding - May/June 2020 (Issue 38)

46 Most brides will agree, one of the biggest and most important purchases for their wedding day is their dress. After their gown, comes the decisions on what they need to finish off their look. Here are a few things to think about when considering your wedding day accessories. Some brides use their shoes as an opportunity to add a splash of colour, particularly if they’ve gone for a shorter length dress. You should have your chosen shoes before your first dress fitting. This will allow the seamstress to ensure the length of your dress is perfect according to the height of your heel. Consider your venue, will you be on sand or grass, in which case a stiletto is not ideal. There is now a huge range of accessories available to help finish off your look. Many ladies tell me they don’t like the tops of their arms so are looking for a dress with sleeves. This, of course, limits them in selection. Think more outside the box and look at a dress you could consider adding a delicate lace jacket or bolero too. It changes the look of the dress completely and makes it special. Show a bit of your style with a black leather or denim jacket for photos, even if it’s not for the actual ceremony. From a delicate birdcage-veil to a long cathedral-length option, this can be one of the main accessories that make you feel like a bride. The number of happy tears I’ve seen once the veil and little headpiece is added is amazing, it seems to sink in at that point that you’re getting married! Again, consider the venue, a long church aisle would accommodate a beautiful long veil, a more intimate setting may lend itself to a shorter fingertip-veil, or possibly none at all and a more statement headpiece could be your choice.
