Your North East Wedding - Jan/Feb 2020 (Issue 36)

80 80 SHAPING UP I’m going to start wedding dress shopping in six weeks, but really want to lose a little weight beforehand. What should I be doing and why? Beverley says: The months before a wedding can be very stressful and with hundreds of things to do, women need to be practical in their weight-loss goals. Increased stress raises cortisol levels, which has been clinically proven to slow down our metabolic rate as our bodies go in to fight or flight mode! Overall body fat reduction – and toned tummies that most brides want to achieve – is priority, with hips and bums other target areas. Here at Shredding for the Wedding diets and nutritional restrictions are not an option. Our wellness system floods the body with high dense nutrition, as well as detoxing. Quite simply we want our brides lean, healthy, glowing and full of mental clarity and energy for their big day! THE TAN COMMANDMENTS My maid of honour says I need to start going on sunbeds to give myself a nice tan for my wedding. Are they OK to use, or should I book for an in- salon fake tan instead? Angela says: Salon spray tanning is so advanced now you have no need to endanger your health and your skin by using a UV tanning booth. The dangers are well documented and may not affect everyone – but is it worth the risk? Cosmetic tanning formulas have come a long way in a short period. They smell a lot better and the transfer, once the guide colour is washed off, is minimal, meaning they’re perfect for brides. Various depths of colour are now also easily achieved, giving the client the power to experiment with their desired look. FINISHING TOUCHES I’m not having a veil, so am worried my hair might look too plain on the big day. What are the trends for bridal hair accessories right now – and are there any wrong or right ways to wear them? May says: This year’s on-trend accessories all derive from festival styles and boho chic, meaning you can go as tame or as wild as you like! The great thing about these accessories is that they can dress up just about any hairstyle. The only thing to watch out for is going too casual. You don’t want to look like you’re actually going to a festival; you just want that trendy, cool vibe. If something a little less in your face is more your style you could opt for a multi toned hair vine, subtle and sophisticated but still in keeping with this year’s biggest trends. Hairstyles with loose curls, plaits and twisted braids are ideal, especially for summer weddings, but at the same time you can take the hair up in to a loose chignon or barrel curls to add a more dramatic and classic twist. Ponytails are huge for weddings right now, from sleek and high to a more natural look, swept back the crown. Whatever your personal style there is something out there for everyone with the current fashion. I personally think that this is one of the best trends I’ve seen in a while – each person can show their individuality without coming away from looking like a bride!
