 THE BRIDE Kate Fearnley, from Middlesbrough’s Kate Fearnley Bridal Boutique (katefearnleyboutique.co.uk ), talks next year’s seasonal dress trends… SPRING 2020 “There’s a definite nod towards the classic romantic look, and the bigger skirt has made a huge comeback. We are seeing a lot of layering, particularly with tulle, and brides are becoming braver, with wider and also higher enclosed necklines. As well as classic alabaster, blush and soft greys have become popular options for more daring brides.” SUMMER 2020 “Summer trends embrace the full skirt and fairytale look. Another classic tailored trend is a silhouette, which never goes out of style. Pocket detailing is popular, and statement sleeves also are well worth considering. The use of heavy tattoo lace is also something we are seeing – brides often want to cover their arms, and a beautiful sleeve detail can make all the difference. Lace is very much a look we are asked for, quite often an all- over lace that covers layering.” AUTUMN 2020 “The trend we are seeing for autumn brides is very much to do with warmer tones of fabric. Blush is still significant, and the statement sleeve is an ongoing look that seems set to stay. Embellishment is forever popular, along with lace and 3D floral. As the seasons progress, we are definitely seeing more sparkle.” WINTER 2020 “Tailoring is featured heavily on the catwalk, but we find our brides are more inclined to feature a structured bodice, with a softer skirt to retain femininity. There is a rise in a high/low hemline and a definite increase in a heavier sparkle. Fabrics are heavier in pattern and embellishment, particularly with crystal elements. Dresses are often accessorised with faux fur wraps and stoles, while feathers have also featured in the winter 2020 collections.” DRESSING-UP box Want to make sure your bridal party looks sensational? Spending a little more to get ultra-comfy heels is a must if you plan on dancing the night away. Sparkling but lightweight earrings will save you from endless photos of you touching your ears when they get too heavy towards the end of the day. “Our favourite accessory this season has to be the wonderfully versatile and incredibly striking hair vine. No matter what hairstyle you’re planning, whether it’s a classic chignon or half-up half- down, you simply can’t go past adding that extra touch with a delicate yet glamorous hair vine.” “It’s so important to dress for the season, and accessories are no exception. It can be challenging to guess the weather, and while you’ll be able to look at temperature guides, you never can tell what Mother Nature has up her sleeve! Many accessories like your jewellery, hair vine and clutch bag will be suitable no matter the season, but your shoes, veil, stole or bolero may need more thought. If there’s a chance of rain, a spare pair of heels may be wise. There’s nothing like muddy heels to ruin your wedding photos!”  FASHION 73
