NEW MIDLANDS RESTAURANT Award-winning chef Stu Deeley has officially opened The Warwick, his highly anticipated new restaurant set within the elegant grounds of Mallory Court Country House Hotel & Spa in Leamington Spa. The opening marks a celebrated return for Stu, bringing his signature style of refined, ingredient-led British cuisine back to the Eden Hotel Collection. The restaurant offers an elevated but unpretentious dining experience, rooted in the seasons and shaped by ingredients from the Mallory Court Kitchen Gardens. It promises a modern expression of refined British dining, set within the hotel’s historic grounds, where guests will enjoy an elevated yet welcoming dining experience. The Warwick presents a choice of two tasting menus: a five-course Taste of the Season (£105) and a three-course menu (£90). Highlights include Cornish crab with Isle of Wight tomatoes, Poussin with Jamón sauce, and a garden-fresh peas and mint gazpacho with burrata and globe artichoke. Desserts pay homage to childhood classics, such as Stu’s nostalgic Baked Alaska. The Warwick is now open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday, and for lunch on Sunday. Great conversation starters, the inspiration behind the award-winning distillery’s collection comes from a desire to capture a moment in history, developing flavours to fully represent the county’s own unique story and bringing the range of hand-crafted flavours to life. These include Leamington on Parade, inspired by the true story of three elephants brought over from Sri Lanka to Leamington by circus elephant trainer Sam Lockhart in the 1880s; The Kingmaker – named after Richard Neville 16th Earl of Warwick and Peeping Tom – inspired by the legend of Coventry’s Lady Godiva. Their new special-edition rums are among those also available in cute 5cl servings, with the added option of rope handle gift backs and tonic or even handmade chocolates infused with their own gin or rum. The rum collection - Spice Blended Rum, Sting Like A Bee Honey Rum and Ghost Edition White Rum – are inspired by Warwickshire’s own legendary boxing champion Randolph Turpin, who earned himself the nickname Leamington Licker. The distillery also offers visitor experiences, such as Gin Tasting, Cocktails at The Distillery and their new Afternoon Gin & Tea, plus a range of build-your-own branded gift bundles. Cheylesmore Manor House, Coventry Coventry is an historic city with a rich and diverse history, situated in the heart of the country. It is known for its medieval Coventry Cathedral which was left in ruins after WWII bombing and home to an unfortified Manor House, previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, Cheylesmore Manor is now used as a stunning ceremony venue. The remnants of a medieval royal palace, the gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor, is at the heart of the city on New Union Street. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry’s rich and important heritage. The manor is believed to have been built for the Earl of Arundel in 1237. By 1320 it had passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, along with the lavish Cheylesmore Park that surrounded it. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince, took possession of it after her. The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings to the original manor house. The Manor House houses three beautiful ceremony rooms: The Queen Isabella Room, The Black Prince Room and the Library Room. www.ceremoniesinsidecoventry.co.uk With bespoke ceremony co-ordinators on hand to guide you through every step of the way, helpful Register Office teams and even easy to manage personalised stationery packages, Coventry can’t wait to welcome you for your ceremony, from weddings to naming days, commitment celebrations and civil partnerships - we can host it all. Rest in the bed of luxury Editor Issy Chamberlain shares all about her recent stay at Ansty Hall, Coventry Weddings and beautiful buildings go hand-in-hand, and Ansty Hall is no stranger to this combination. As you make your way down their long drive, you feel as though you’re being transported to a luxurious heaven, free from everyday stresses. The staff are not only attentive but forward-thinking, anticipating your every need. From the moment you set foot in their cosy lobby, you’re greeted with a bright smile and the air of pure relaxation. I had the pleasure of staying in suite 001, and my goodness, did I feel like number one. The spacious room is filled with a super king bed, a sofa, a dressing table, a dining table, and a sleek bathroom, highlighted by a raised bathtub, fit for a queen. THE GROUNDS Once you’ve settled into your room and unpacked, it’s time to go exploring. As you step out the front doors and round the back, you’re met with a well-maintained British garden, lined with tall trees and stunning flowers. At the centre, there’s a life-sized chess set, a fire pit, and plenty of seating to soak up the summer rays. Beyond the garden is a larger expanse of greenery, dominated by a 350-year-old cedar tree — the perfect backdrop for garden weddings of up to 160 guests, symbolising endurance and timelessness. A stone path runs around the garden’s perimeter. I first followed this path to The Orangery, a building with floor-to-ceiling windows that blends indoor weddings with garden views. It can accommodate up to 160 guests. Then I continued to St James’ Church, found through a gateway at the back of the grounds. This hidden gem adds a new layer of history to the venue and holds 120 guests. For smaller weddings, Ansty Hall offers the Cedar Room for up to 100 guests and the Gilbert Scott Room for up to 40. After the stroll, I soaked my aching body in the deep bathtub but not before ordering a snack from the bar, triple-cooked chips and tender stem broccoli dressed with wild garlic and crispy onions. This first taste of Ansty Hall’s food set a high precedent. After soaking until I was a prune, it was time to get dolled up for dinner at the Twine restaurant. DINNER TIME Now, I’m happy to admit that, in the past, I had been sceptical of small portions in fine dining restaurants. I ignorantly thought I was being cheated of a full meal; however, Ansty Hall has completely changed my mind on this! My table was tucked up in the corner, looking out on the expanse of dressed tables and mood lighting, all of which perfectly set the scene for what would be a superb meal. My server was quick to make me comfortable with water for the table, a bottle of house rosé in a bucket of ice, and the highly anticipated menu. The meal started strong with a selection of warm breads and with what Ansty Hall calls a “snack”. This delightful little treat was a cracker, with toasted black sesame seeds, topped with whipped goats’ cheese, pickled onion slices and a green garnish. Wow, did this pack a punch! For my starter, I chose the Devonshire crab, which sat in a light sauce of sweet curry, coriander and raisins; topped with an ultra-thin cracker, which provided a welcomed crunch. For my main, I selected the lamb cutlet, which was accompanied by spiced potato, green sauce, and black garlic. It’s here that my perspective on fine-dining portions was changed. Every single element of this dish was cooked to perfection, and the flavours married beautifully. To finish off this delightful meal, I had the salted caramel tart, which came with a compressed Pink Lady apple, green apple sorbet and gingerbread. I left the restaurant that night a very happy woman. TIME FOR BED I’m the sort of person who takes a night or two to settle into sleeping in a new place, so staying at a hotel for one night raises the potential of a very tired Issy the next day. However, as soon as my head hit that very plump pillow, I was out for the count! The bed held me in a comfortable embrace all night, and I felt incredibly refreshed the following morning. To then round this off with breakfast brought to my room and my morning cuppa served on a silver platter, I don’t think you could ask for a better wake-up call. THE FINAL VERDICT If you’re looking for a wedding venue that has decent travel connections, can host a range of wedding parties and has outstanding food, then you’ve found it! Ansty Hall ticks all of these boxes and will be the perfect backdrop to weddings. The modern yet classic interior and grounds will envelop you and your guests in a romantic haze, leaving you feeling refreshed from your staycation away from reality. Seventeen years in the making Discover Laura and Nik’s relaxed, joy-filled celebration at Redhouse Barn Images courtesy of Garazi Photography These lovebirds met at a mutual friend’s 21st birthday party. Laura first noticed Nik when he fetched a baseball bat to break a particularly stubborn piñata! Their friend Becky suggested they add each other on Facebook, resulting in messaging back and forth over the coming weeks before Nik suggested they meet up. Almost 17 years later, they’re still together! Laura says, “Nik is the relaxed to my anxious, the calm to my worry. He’s the part of me I didn’t know was missing. He has an enormous heart and is so kind, generous, and thoughtful!” In 2013, the couple visited Stratford-upon-Avon for the day and went on a stroll along the river. They found a bench to sit on, and Nik asked Laura if she remembered what he’d said on the night of Tom’s, one of his best friends’, birthday party. He’d told her that she was his “forever and a day.” It was then that he took a ring box out of his pocket! Laura genuinely had no idea whatsoever that it was going to happen! Here, the bride shares details about their special day… 24
Nik’s a Aston Villa fan, so he wanted a nod to that on our wedding day. He wore a navy suit and a white shirt with burgundy accessories. Redhouse Barn was the first venue we looked at. I’d come across it on Instagram and knew I wanted to visit. We both loved the venue and Kath, who showed us around, was so warm and welcoming! My bridesmaids wore burgundy multi-way dresses from Jacqueline Louise Bridal. I wanted them to have the same dress but the freedom to wear it however they chose My junior bridesmaid wore a navy dress from JJ’s House. The day was just beautiful from start to finish. It was full of love, happiness, and completely relaxed. We wanted our guests and ourselves to enjoy every moment. Phil, my hairdresser, did the hair for the bridal party. He and his husband were guests for the day too, which made it even more special. Harper did our make-up and made us all look so beautiful. Once everything came together, I couldn’t believe it was me looking back in the mirror. 25 REAL WEDDINGS
One of my bridesmaids, Jenna, and I used some biscuits from M&S, white icing, and a personalised stamp bought from Etsy to make more than 100 favours in an afternoon. We wanted to ensure that there was something for everyone, so went for an afternoon tea for our wedding breakfast, which guests raved about! Mini pizzas, mini burgers, cones of chips and my brother’s personal favourite fish finger sandwiches were served in the evening! I got my dress and hairpiece from Senti Bridal in Cotteridge. I’d always said that I wanted a tea-length dress and accessorised with shoes from Harriet Wilde, the bows were a strong talking point! My work mom, Tracy, made the beautiful centrepieces – she’s so creative and clever! Nik and I both love reading, so having a nod to that on our wedding day was perfect. 26
While we had a DJ for the night, we also had a crazy golf set-up that was a massive hit with guests. People loved it, though Nik’s parents and sisters were incredibly competitive with it. We had a bouncy castle for the children too. Nik saw the idea of “When we were…” on Instagram for table names, and I loved it too. We had fun looking through old photos to display. Libby from Hiya Petal was an absolute dream. I wanted bright and vibrant flowers, full of love, and she nailed that. I was completely calm all morning, but when Libby brought in the flowers, I began to feel emotional. She is a true artist and so talented! Kirsty, one of my bridesmaids, gave a speech, and it touched my heart! Nik’s sister Katie created our wedding cake and cupcakes. We kept it nice and simple with Victoria sponge to match the afternoon tea theme for the catering. The groom comments, “I was nervous right up to the start, and then the day went by in a flash – it’s a cliché for a reason! The best man’s speech went down fantastically; it was the right mix of comedy and heartfelt gestures. Plus, it made my mom cry, so that helped too.” REAL WEDDINGS 27

A PASTEL DREAM Childhood ties, a Santorini proposal and a joyful celebration full of colour and meaning brought Jennie and Cory’s love story to life Images courtesy of Little Posy Photography Cory’s mum was best friends with Jennie’s aunt, who has sadly passed away, while the pair were growing up. As a result, Cory and Jennie always knew of each other and even went to the same secondary school. They reconnected years later after bumping into each other at a pub, then began chatting regularly after adding each other on Instagram – but the timing wasn’t quite right. Fast forward a few years and Jennie, newly single, decided to bite the bullet. She sent Cory a message saying, “When are you going to take me on this date then?” and the rest is history! The bride described Cory as someone who finds the fun in everything but is also incredibly kind and generous. “We’re silly with each other every day, but we also try hard not to take each other for granted,” she says. Cory shares, “Jennie is wonderfully silly, full of incredibly endearing but meaningless outbursts. Her warmth made me feel at ease from day one, which allowed our relationship to flourish. There’s nobody I’d rather be locked in a room with, and not just because I could look at her topaz blue eyes all day, every day.” Cory proposed in Santorini in September 2022 at the Sunset Taverna in Ammoudi Bay. He had arranged a catamaran trip with food and drinks, intending to propose at sunset. Unfortunately, Jennie became seasick the moment they stepped onboard. He ended up proposing at dinner instead. The restaurant erupted in applause, and Champagne was sent to their table. Jennie later said, “It wasn’t exactly a secret... the only surprises we’ve ever managed to keep from each other are my engagement ring and my wedding dress. I loved that we could be excited together. He was still nervous, and I was still overwhelmed with happiness – when it’s right, it’s right.” Here, the bride shares details about their special day... 29 REAL WEDDINGS
I wore a glittery champagne Nicole Milano dress with spaghetti straps and a full skirt, completely different from the ivory Bardot-style gown I’d always pictured. Charlotte at Charlotte Elizabeth Bridal saw I wasn’t clicking with anything I’d picked, so she pulled Keren as a wildcard. I burst into tears the moment I saw myself in it. I didn’t want a veil, so I found an Etsy seller who made the perfect intricate halo instead. My stepdad read Love Me When I’m Old during the ceremony. It really sums up our relationship. Cory said, “I felt full of nervous anticipation all day. Being apart from your number one person for 24 hours before the most important day of your life feels so strange. I’ve never been happier to see anyone than when she walked down that aisle. I squeezed her hand so hard I probably nearly broke it. I still can’t believe I get to keep her forever.” The ceremony felt so magical and emotional, it surprised me how much it moved me. A standout moment? Cory and one of his groomsmen doing a wild dance to song from Zorba the Greek, which Cory requested despite neither of us having any Greek roots! 30
Our bridesmaids picked their dresses in their assigned colours, and they complemented each other beautifully. My two younger brothers chose stone suits from Next that worked perfectly with the pastels. The flowergirls wore ivory dresses from Lipsy, and my page boy wore beige trousers with suspenders and a matching bowtie. The day was such a blur, but I was completely overwhelmed by how much I love Cory. After the ceremony, the registrar told us he’d rarely met couples so obviously in love, and that he believed we’d have a long and happy marriage. I couldn’t stop smiling in the photos, we were holding each other’s hands so tightly! We used a gold leaner mirror for the table plan, with cards attached using wax melts. I added a decal that read, “First we dine, then we dance,” and now keep the mirror in my dressing room at home. The grounds at Hodsock Priory were stunning, the rooms beautiful, and the staff incredible. Nothing was too much to ask, and the whole day ran like a dream. I had a vision of a tiered Lambeth-style cake with pastel accents and a modern twist. After searching, I found Sobia at Delicious Bakez on Instagram. The only catch was she was based in Birmingham! We had a very tense drive the day before the wedding with the cake in the footwell, but Hodsock kindly stored it overnight and it arrived in one piece. REAL WEDDINGS 31
Cory wore a dusky pink tux jacket with black trousers, a waistcoat, and a bowtie. His groomsmen wore all black, so he stood out. I was surprised when he picked it, but it suited him so much that I loved it immediately. We had the incredible Jason from Affinity DJ who played our ceremony music, ran a fun icebreaker game for the guests, and hosted a Mr & Mrs quiz before the disco. He brought energy and helped guests connect. We wanted a cheesy disco, and he delivered! We also hired a photo booth from Bliss Booth, which was a huge hit. Our amazing stylist Claire from Nuptia helped with almost everything! We had eight tables, each with one of four colour themes – sage green, sky blue, pastel pink, and peach. She used candles and bud vases with matching flowers to decorate, which she also provided, including a crescent arch behind the top table and two floral pillars for the ceremony. Our table names were based on meaningful dates like our first date, our first holiday and our engagement with little blurbs explaining each. I displayed them in antique brass frames I found on Facebook Marketplace. 32

I told her to do what she wanted, and everything was so beautiful. Cory built a crisp wall using a gold frame, artificial flowers, and a fishing line. It was a huge hit with guests, and we had fun picking flavours. Instead of traditional favours, we made donations to two charities close to our hearts: Andy’s Man Club and Alzheimer’s Society. Each guest received a pin badge and a note letting them know a donation had been made in their name. Cory is a proper foodie, so catering was important. We had caramelised red onion and brie tarts, Thai salmon fishcakes, camembert skewers, and mini toads in the holes for canapés. The wedding breakfast featured crab arancini starters, rack of lamb mains, an assiette of desserts, and stonebaked pizzas in the evening. REAL WEDDINGS 33
