Cheylesmore Manor House, Coventry Coventry is an historic city with a rich and diverse history, situated in the heart of the country. It is known for its medieval Coventry Cathedral which was left in ruins after WWII bombing and home to an unfortified Manor House, previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, Cheylesmore Manor is now used as a stunning ceremony venue. The remnants of a medieval royal palace, the gatehouse of Cheylesmore Manor, is at the heart of the city on New Union Street. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry’s rich and important heritage. The manor is believed to have been built for the Earl of Arundel in 1237. By 1320 it had passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, along with the lavish Cheylesmore Park that surrounded it. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince, took possession of it after her. The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings to the original manor house. The Manor House houses three beautiful ceremony rooms: The Queen Isabella Room, The Black Prince Room and the Library Room. www.ceremoniesinsidecoventry.co.uk With bespoke ceremony co-ordinators on hand to guide you through every step of the way, helpful Register Office teams and even easy to manage personalised stationery packages, Coventry can’t wait to welcome you for your ceremony, from weddings to naming days, commitment celebrations and civil partnerships - we can host it all. CHEYLESMORE MANOR HOUSE 02476 833 141 | www.ceremoniesinsidecoventry.co.uk/ cheylesmoremanorceremonysuite Cheylesmore Manor House is the remnant of a Medieval royal palace in Coventry city centre. The magnificent timber building is a key piece of Coventry’s rich and important heritage. Previously the only unfortified royal palace outside of London, the venue is now used for wedding ceremonies. The manor is believed to have been built for the Earl of Arundel in 1237. By 1320, it had passed to Queen Isabella, wife of Edward II, along with the lavish Cheylesmore Park that surrounded it. Her grandson Edward, the Black Prince, took possession of it after her. The building we know today is, in fact, only the gatehouse and parts of two cross wings of the original manor house. The property houses three ceremony rooms: the Queen Isabella Room, the Black Prince Room and the Library Room. The Black Prince Room retains many original features, including a magnificent vaulted beamed ceiling with an impressive stone fireplace and Medieval chandeliers. Once the ceremony is over, guests will exit from the room via a winding staircase down to a huge oak door leading into a large stone-flagged courtyard, where a section of the city wall remains. A small wooden bridge within the courtyard provides delightful opportunities for photographs and memories of the special day. This is the largest of the manor’s ceremony rooms, accommodating 50 loved ones. With its beautiful beams, the Queen Isabella Room is tastefully furnished to a high standard. The room accommodates up to 20 nearest and dearest, with direct access into the room from the archway outside. Alternatively, the Library Room can hold up to 10 people and is located on the ground floor, making it accessible for wheelchair users. THE TIN AT THE COAL VAULTS 02476 230 699 | www.thetinmusicandarts.org.uk The Tin at The Coal Vaults is a multi-use arts venue that doubles as the perfect alternative wedding reception venue. The 18th-century building in Coventry Canal Basin’s former coal storage building oozes character with exposed brick walls and curved ceilings. Its somewhat industrial style creates the ideal backdrop, giving the space a distinctive sense of charm and character while remaining versatile enough to be personalised and adapted to suit personal tastes. The venue is set in two vaults; one contains a fully licensed bar stocked with locally sourced ales, wines, and spirits with a seating area, and the other has a built-in stage and dancefloor. Being on one level, the entire venue is wheelchair accessible. The maximum capacity over the two vaults is 150 people; however, this intimate venue doesn’t feel empty with 30 or 40 guests. Although the venue doesn’t offer in-house catering, outside suppliers are welcome. The team does provide a range of optional extras, including the use of the PA system, a license extension until 2 am, an optional inhouse DJ and technical equipment. www.lufuweddings.co.uk www.lufuweddings.co.uk 22

I had been so busy for the past few months that I craved time to unwind and detach from the outside world. That’s why I was thrilled when I got the chance to visit Kettering Park Hotel & Spa, which is part of the Daniel Thwaites spa group. Nestled in the heart of the East Midlands, this lovely four-star property provides a serene atmosphere, spa facilities, cosy rooms and delectable dining options at the award-winning restaurant. I was looking forward to a romantic getaway with my partner, filled with unforgettable moments. What better way to kick off our stay than by exploring the spa? READY TO RELAX Just a brief stroll from the reception, we found ourselves in the spotless changing rooms before entering the spa area to explore the amenities. Inside, we discovered a sauna, a steam room, numerous loungers and a spacious pool ideal for both relaxing and energetic swimming. Thanks to the calming atmosphere, we took our time here, unwinding and allowing our stress to fade away. The team provides a wide variety of services, catering to all needs with options ranging from facials to body treatments, as well as the perfect finishing touches, such as pedicures and manicures. I enjoyed experiencing a 50-minute Templespa My Kinda Massage, a truly blissful journey that emphasised luxury and indulgence. The deeply relaxing full-body massage began with choosing one of three delightful Mediterranean-inspired oils. I decided on the soothing scents of frankincense, lavender and patchouli. The skilled masseuse worked her magic, targeting my troublesome areas like the stubborn knots in my shoulder blades and stiff neck while applying the right amount of pressure. I stepped outside feeling like a million bucks! FOOD FOR THOUGHT Following our soothing spa experience, we realised we were feeling quite peckish and were excited to tuck into a three-course meal! The talented chefs at the AA Rosette restaurant are committed to creating dishes that not only taste amazing but also showcase the best of British cuisine. They focus on using high-quality ingredients and collaborating closely with local suppliers to achieve the perfect flavour pairings. We kicked off our meal with artisan bread and salted butter, followed by a smoked haddock and leek tartlet with lettuce and mustard dressing. For my main course, I chose the slow-cooked chicken breast with truffle mousse, potato terrine, spinach and oyster mushrooms in a white wine butter sauce – it was absolutely delightful! I ended the meal with a refreshing raspberry and mango sorbet, perfect for the hot weather. The team was attentive during our meal, ensuring we had everything needed for a fantastic experience. There’s nothing I love more than a hearty breakfast, and the team didn’t disappoint the following day! We were greeted with a friendly service, fresh juices and a wide selection of tasty treats. I opted for a refreshing bowl of fresh fruit and porridge with honey, followed by a scrumptious serving of avocado and eggs on toast. Of course, I had to try a pastry… maybe two! REST YOUR HEAD We enjoyed our time in a Signature Room that created the perfect relaxed atmosphere. The calming colour palette, wooden furnishings, warm lamps, and stunning artwork all contributed to a serene environment. The room had all the essential amenities, such as a large bed, toiletries, tea and coffee options, plush towels and complimentary Wi-Fi. Plus, a pillow menu lets us choose our ideal pillow firmness, whether we prefer something soft, firm or a mix of both, ensuring a restful and refreshing night’s sleep. EXCHANGING VOWS At Kettering Park Hotel & Spa, the team take great pride in crafting unforgettable weddings while working closely with couples. The range of licensed spaces ensures a seamless transition from vows to celebrations. The Rockingham Suite provides an intimate setting for up to 70 guests, complete with a private bar and small terrace.
