Catch up on news from around the region RING OF CHANGES Hatton Garden-based fine jeweller Ruth Tomlinson has created WondeRings Marine, a new collection of bridal jewellery that’s sure to add the wow factor to events. Ruth wanted to represent the journey of the marine diamonds and the water movement in her jewellery designs using Mitsuro Hikime, a lesser-known wax of Japanese origin. The wax has a beautiful sticky yet stretchy quality, which allowed Ruth to create flowing lines and textures to resemble the waters that carry the diamonds into the ocean. She shares, “We’re committed to sourcing our materials ethically and sustainably, exclusively using 100 per cent recycled gold and individually sourced gemstones that are mostly antique or old cut that we can upcycle. I’m delighted to source through Ocean Diamonds with this collection, as it means we can offer our clients another solution regarding provenance.” The new collection evokes this sense of discovery, with each piece designed intentionally to draw focus onto these precious stones just as they were revealed on the ocean bed among crystals of sand. Arzhang visited Tara in London a month later before they started a longdistance relationship for three years during the pandemic until Tara could relocate to the US. She says, “Arzhang proposed when I visited California to visit him. I had to quit my job to get into the country as I had to quarantine in Mexico for 15 days before staying in San Francisco for four months, resulting in a proposal!” Here the bride shares details about their special day… 27 REAL WEDDINGS
We loved Morden Hall as the location felt out of Central London and was a romantic meeting point for families worldwide. All my mum’s ornaments were on display as part of the decorations, which added sentimental touches. Our florist Nicola was amazing! She helped design the wedding and was patient as we made many chances up until the last month of the wedding. She also made our Iranian Sofreh Aghd using beautiful florals. Our number one goal when planning our wedding was to ensure everyone would have a good time. It felt like an out-of-body experience when I first saw myself on the day – I felt really good but numb simultaneously! We had a string trio for the ceremony and drinks reception, which added a nice touch to the day. The team was terrific to work with and so responsive. 28
We were nervous and overwhelmed, but our wedding coordinator Akilah helped us so much. We went upstairs to compose ourselves and chill for 20 minutes before dinner, which was special. The bridesmaids wore dusty pink dresses, and all looked absolutely gorgeous! Three of our guests performed the Iranian knife dance for the cake cutting, which led to dancing and got us ready for partying all night. My dress was called Arya, from the Enzoani Love collection, and knew this was the one as soon as I tried it. The team at The Wedding Dress Shop were all so lovely and altered the gown. Baker Elle Gerrish created our beautiful cake, she’s so talented and her cakes are delicious! We went with rich Belgium chocolate, white Belgium chocolate and lemon – all the guests were crazy about the flavours. 29 REAL WEDDINGS
We had a mini-moon on a farm and a highlight was feeding a two-weekold calf! We wanted to give candles to guests for favours because they’re not only great gifts, but I wanted to add a little touch to the presentation. We picked out the gauze and tied it together with pearl strings. For Arzhang, he loved partying! It was great to see all our guests having fun, dancing, laughing and being silly. With Arzhang being in America, I mostly planned the wedding with help from my parents – I seriously couldn’t have done the last few months prior without help from With Akilah and Co. My dad’s speech was special to me! We had quite a journey the past few months before the wedding, and he worked so hard for us. He made all the guests laugh, cry and feel our special bond – I’m so proud to be his daughter. These lovebirds first met at work in 2017, and it was definitely love at first sight. Sam proposed to Laura at the Cotswold Wildlife Park & Garden back in 2018 before Laura left to start work as an art consultant on a cruise ship. She says, “We got engaged quite quickly as we really wanted to get married, although it was difficult as it meant we had to spend the next few months apart.” The couple set the wedding for August 2022 and created the perfect day surrounded by loved ones. SETTING THE SCENE The pair spent a long time planning their wedding and initially wanted to marry on a beach in Barbados. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they decided to plan a citychic wedding with their closest family and friends instead. The weather was beautiful, which allowed the pair to have a first look in Regents Park, followed by a ceremony at The Old Marylebone Town Hall. As the pair had a very intimate London wedding with only their closest family present, they had a beautiful table in the Winter Garden Restaurant in The Landmark London Hotel surrounded by palm trees and under the impressive eight-storey glass ceiling. The team’s attention to detail and setting was beautiful – plus the food was delicious! White roses made up the centrepieces to keep with the elegant and minimalistic theme. The bride says, “Incredibly, a flash of lightning lit up the sky as we sat down to eat and the rain started pouring onto the roof. We both felt so grateful and blessed at that moment.” For favours, guests received personalised handwritten letters to read individually on the day. The personal touch made their day extra special and thanked their loved ones. LOOKING THE PART The bride looked stunning in a bespoke wedding gown made by Ellie Lowe Wedding Dresses, a beautiful studio in the Cotswolds. Laura comments, “Me and Ellie designed the dress to have a back slit to show off my Christian Louboutin shoes and a sparkly detachable train.” The bride finished her look with her late grandmother’s golden broach pinned onto her wedding bouquet ribbon as her something old. Sam wore a tailored navy merino wool suit, accessorised with a Christopher Ward Tide Watch that was a wedding present from Laura due to their mutual love of the ocean and marine conservation. He finished his look with his late grandfather’s gold chain. Sam’s brother was the best man, and he wore a navy suit to complement the groom’s attire. Laura’s sister was the maid-of-honour and wore a champagne-coloured slip-style dress. MEMORABLE MOMENTS The couple were so emotional on their wedding day. They really wanted to spend as much time together as possible, so they organised the day accordingly. The bride says, “We started with a beautiful first look in Regents Park and then hopped in a London black cab to Bond Street, where we had some chic photos outside Cartier and Tiffany & Co. The day felt like a dream and ran so smoothly, thanks to the professionalism of Lynn Shapiro, Lauren Irwin and the teams at both venues. Our photographer was incredible on the day, and she made us both feel completely at ease as she completely understood our vision. 33 REAL WEDDINGS

Our main focus for the day was connection and being present in the moment.” HONEYMOON The day after the wedding, the couple flew to Paris for a romantic trip to the beautiful city. The bride says, “We work on board a cruise ship as fine jewellery specialists and have just completed a three-month world voyage travelling through America, Australia, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. We both love to travel and wildlife conservation – this is something we want to make our main focus moving forward.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Laura’s mum Sarah organised a beautiful rustic garden celebration with all their friends and family to celebrate the marriage the week after the wedding back home in the Cotswolds. The attention to detail was beautiful, and the event was complete with string bulb lights, sparklers and a bonfire for toasting marshmallows. Laura says, “We will both forever be eternally grateful for this as it allowed us to have our first dance and cut our wedding cake.” 34
