D R A P E R S ’ HA L L At Drapers’ Hall you are marrying into 500 years of history. Thomas Cromwell chose to build his mansion in this very spot. Centuries and several reincarnations later, our Livery Hall is one of the grandest buildings in London, a palace in the heart of the City, surrounded by churches, a place where fellowship, generosity, heritage, and hospitality all come together. And for a day it will be yours. Sweep through the oak-panelled entrance hall and up the grand staircase to rooms decked with flowers where champagne flows, tables lit by silver candelabra glitter under painted ceilings and balconies give onto secret gardens. Our experienced in-house team and gold medal-winning chef will be at your service. Every wedding is unique and Drapers’ Hall offers complete flexibility and exclusively for wedding couples, with bespoke catering options and inclusive wedding packages that can be tailored to your taste. Couples that choose Drapers’ Hall for their wedding reception will benefit from an incredibly simple planning process, with all of the essentials included, plus elegant candelabra table centres, dance floor and a Steinway classic grand piano. Our Events team will help you at every stage to plan your day and ensure that every detail is perfect for you. I don’t know about you guys but I’m feeling in a celebratory mood at the moment. This time of the year’s the perfect pick-me-up – I love the longer days, the brighter weather’s making me go outdoors and enjoy what nature has to offer and the hint that summer’s around the corner puts a smile on my face. Not only that, but June also sees the country come together to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, an event that we can all take inspiration from for our own special occasions. 70 years is something to be proud of for sure. My grandparents celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary recently – what an achievement to meet your soulmate, tie the knot and all those years later still be celebrating. My husband and I have been married for 19 years (I’m definitely not old enough!) so we’ve got a while yet before we hit that milestone but when we do, I’m sure we’ll still be partying! That takes us nicely into our entertainment feature over on page 61. Head there to get the lowdown on London’s top options for your big-day party. If it’s outfit inspiration you need, turn to our dressing the bridal party feature on page 55 or check out our stunning countryside shoot on page 51. Local pros share how to inject seasonal brights into your day on page 84 and our real weddings are brimming with colour, blooms and good oldfashioned love on pages 33, 38 and 45. I’ve loved creating this issue for you. It’s brimming with so much springtime vibes and I hope you enjoy reading it just as much! Happy planning Sarah x Sarah Gallivan, Editor WIN Win a two-night stay in the Lake District. The perfect pick-me-up I love the intimate spaces at Luca Restaurant. attract Carolyne and Ollie did their day their way, and loved every minute Images courtesy of Joasis Photography Carolyne and Ollie met as graduates working for the same IT consultancy. “We’re opposites in a lot of ways, but then exactly the same in others,” says Carolyne. “Ollie makes me laugh and is the kindest person you’ll ever meet. We’re a great team.” Ollie proposed on the duo’s seven-year anniversary at Retreat East near Ipswich. “It was no surprise really, more a gasp of finally!” she recalls. They’d already been ring shopping many months before. “Who cares for tradition? I’d rather wear a ring I absolutely love and share the process together, rather than have him stress about it alone, so I knew it was coming at some point. It was still sweet when it happened though,” she says. They were keen not to follow classic traditions and their day truly reflected who they are and the things they love. “We had a focus on working with suppliers that were environmentally sustainable or had a good moral ethos, specifically supporting small independent businesses where we could,” Carolyne adds. Here, she tells us more about their day… OPPOSITES 33 REAL WEDDINGS

We gave guests mini beer and wine shaped cookies as favours. They fitted our theme and the venue well – everyone knew the wine was for me and the beer was very Ollie! Ollie has collected weird and wonderful beer coasters for years so I was keen to make the most of them in our table plan design. We also made push pins from fun beer caps. We focused the day on who we are, rather than following traditions. We walked down the aisle together as equals - I don’t need to be ‘given away’ just because I’m a woman. The Brewery’s a hidden gem in the heart of London. It was so us and we just couldn’t fault it - the venue, the staff and the food were just sublime. The Brewery’s Sugar Rooms have beautiful floor to ceiling arched windows which let in so much natural light and The Queen Charlotte room has a party vibe to it. You can change the colour of the lighting throughout. Ollie wore a blue suit from Harry B rown. He wanted one with a fun lining and the peacock pattern fit the brief. He must’ve bought over 20 ties, but finally decided on a dark red colour. I wore an embroidered Hermione De Paula gown with a beautiful low back and because the sleeves were so sheer, I wasn’t too hot in it. I accessorised with simple gold hoops from Monica Vinader. 34

Why just have a wedding cake when you can have a whole snack table? We’re big fans of Crosstown doughnuts and with Ollie being Welsh, we couldn’t not have Welsh cakes! Our placenames and seat reservation tags were printed onto seeded paper so our guests could take them home and plant them to grow wildflowers for bees! Our stunning cake was created by Luminary Bakery, a social enterprise providing training, employment and community to some of the most disadvantaged women in London. We had flowers in abundance and they were all seasonal and grown in and around London. A lot of wedding flowers get binned at the end of the night so we set up a flower station! After the wedding breakfast, all flowers were left on a table with twine, brown paper and a sign inviting guests to make their own bouquets to take home. It was such a big hit! For our centrepieces we reused flowers from the ceremony to create a trail of bud vases down the middle of the banquet tables and reused aisle arrangements at the end of the tables too. Our tables were named after our favourite pubs, wine bars and breweries. 35 REAL WEDDINGS

She captured our day exactly as we’d hoped. She was such a calm presence to have around us and her photos speak for themselves! Before our ceremony we met at the hotel, had a proper hello without all our guests watching and then had some beautiful moments together before the wildness of the day took over. Our wedding represented us as a couple, and it was fun to share that with our family and friends – we had the absolute best day. We filled gin bottles that we’d collected over time with fairy lights and used some as vases throughout the venue. A string quartet played for our ceremony and drinks reception. Hearing them play The Bare Necessities was sensational and will stay with me for a long time. We created a C & O display for our card table using wine bottle corks and beer bottle caps that we’ve collected over the years. We still have them displayed in our living room. Who doesn’t love a good photobooth? It was hilarious looking back at all the photos in the album a couple of nights later. For our evening party The Sonics band performed. Everyone was dancing the entire night, they were incredible! Our friends’ faces lit up as soon as they saw the drum kit on stage. 36

tequila Tacos and Becky and Rob shared their stunning day with loved ones at Carlton House Terrace Images courtesy of Roshni Photography 38

Becky and Rob met at university at the age of 18. “We did the same drama course and one day Rob asked me out for lunch. We had a sandwich together on the sports field and have been together ever since,” says Becky. Around 13 years later, they decided to tie the knot. “We both travel a lot for work and hadn’t seen each other for about six weeks so while we were away in different parts of the world, we arranged to meet up mid-trip in New York,” recalls Becky. “One night we were drinking tequila and eating burritos when we decided to get married,” she says. “Rob didn’t have the ring with him so instead he bought me an I love tacos t-shirt from a shop above the bar we were in, which was quite funny.” What Becky didn’t know was that Rob was already planning to propose when he got back to the UK. “When we returned we made tacos in our little flat. Rob had already bought a ring and he hid it in one of the shells and then officially asked me to marry him again,” she says. “It was a double surprise as I didn’t know he’d already been planning it.” The duo originally planned their wedding to be in the New Forest where Becky’s from, however due to Covid, plans changed. “We eventually decided that we wanted a venue in central London and the surroundings at Carlton House Terrace were stunning. We loved the beautiful high ceilings and décor,” she says. “We have such fond memories of walking down the aisle and entering the reception area to cheers from all our friends after we’d had our photos taken.” LOOKING THE PART Becky hit the bridal boutiques with her mum and future mother-in-law and after trying on around five different designs she found the one. “I went back to the first design. It was a Jesus Piero A-line dress with intricate lace detailing to the back, I loved it,” she says. “I don’t like anything too bold and I’m not very tall so I didn’t want something that would swamp me.” Becky bought the dress but then with the wedding being rescheduled it was a while before she could wear it. In the meantime, she found out that she was going to be 12-weeks pregnant on their big day. “I got the dress altered and added extra paneling to make sure it’d still fit but I was so poorly in the early stages of pregnancy that I ended up having it made smaller again as I’d lost weight! When I eventually went for my final fitting, I felt amazing in it – the best I’d felt in a long time, so I knew I’d made the right choice.” Becky accessorised with a lace-trimmed veil, Jimmy Choo platform stiletto sandals and pretty Porcelain earrings. Rob, his groomsmen and both his and Becky’s fathers all wore matching morning suits. “He was happy keeping his look quite casual, but his best man wanted to go all out and wear morning suits so that’s what they ended up with,” says Becky. “I didn’t mind what they wore but I’m glad they went with that choice in the end because it suited the venue perfectly,” Becky says. BEAUTIFUL BLOOMS Becky’s bouquet was brimming with a variety of foliage mixed with white, pale pink and blue flowers and similar arrangements were placed around the venue. “With me being from the New Forest I wanted to give a nod to that, which is why we had lots of greenery. I’d planned to go for mainly white flowers but when we changed venue, I added pops of colour to suit the décor,” Becky explains. The picturesque fireplace was adorned with blooms, trailing foliage, white drapes and candles placed in lanterns. “This made for a beautiful backdrop for our photos,” she says. For the reception décor, light blue table runners were topped with an array of floral arrangements and silver tea-light candles and a sprig of foliage was placed on blue napkins for each guest. SWEET TREATS For their favours, Rob chose a shot of limoncello, and Becky chose a small box of chocolates. “With me being pregnant I couldn’t drink but both options went down a storm with our guests,” Becky recalls. “My dad can write in calligraphy, so he created the place names and labels for our favours, they looked fabulous,” she says. The duo opted for a mouthwatering display of cakes. “I’m not a fan of one 39 REAL WEDDINGS
