Your London Wedding - Jan/Feb 2020 (Issue 69)

REAL WEDDINGS 45  U niversity friends, Fiona and Adam’s relationship remained platonic throughout their student days but when Fiona moved to London for work, a stint on Adam’s sofa bought a new perspective. And although they’d dated for some seven years by the time Adam popped the question, Fiona reveals that his proposal came as a complete surprise. “It was a hot, sunny Thursday in 2018,” she explains. “I’d been at work and came home to find the flat in complete darkness, candles lining the hallway and ‘Will you marry me?’ written on our blackboard wall. There was a meal all laid out and champagne on ice too – I was in total shock and couldn’t believe he’d been at home all afternoon planning it.” With Adam hailing from Norfolk and Fiona a Yorkshire lass, they were spoilt for choice when it came to their big-day location, as Fiona reveals. “We could have tied the knot in a hundred beautiful venues in either county but while we were considering it all, we realised we’d never been to a wedding in London before. We’d called the capital home for eight years and we wanted to show our families what the city is really like.” From there, the couple narrowed down their venue hunt quickly to Marylebone as they both love the area and The Old Marylebone Town Hall was the natural choice for the ceremony. Keen to keep their vows intimate, the couple kept the guest list for the first half of the day small, hiring a Routemaster to transport their 70 friends and family to The Farmer’s Club in Whitehall for a relaxed lunch immediately after they’d said ‘I do’. “We really wanted to be able to chat with our family and close friends,” says Fiona. A further 70 loved ones joined them for dinner and dancing at a third venue, The Garden Museum, chosen for its idyllic grounds. “By 4.30pm, Adam got changed into his dinner jacket and then, as the weather was so Fiona and Adam bought a country vibe to their city do Images courtesy of Alice the Camera
