Dry skin is a common concern for brides worried about it affecting the look of their big-day make-up look. What do you recommend? It’s common to think that if the skin’s dry you’ve got to add something to it, which is probably the case, and a good idea is to add a serum. But if you keep adding oils and grease to the skin it only gets drier and drier. The flakiness is caused by lack of water, so that’s why my products are plumping, containing the water the skin is needing. If you add oil, you’ll likely find that by the afternoon it’s dry again. All you’re doing is telling the skin not to produce any more oil, so it’s not good. I do a collagen serum that’s not quite an oil, it’s a waxy solution and that works well. Another thing is, if you’ve got dry lips, you might think you need to add lip gloss or balm, but what it actually means is you’re dehydrated. Did you know that if you feel thirsty your body is telling you it’s totally dehyrated? So, you need to drink when you’re not thirsty. In the lead up to a wedding I’d make sure I’m drinking at least two-and-a-half litres a day. It’s also important to maintain a good diet, as leaving out meals can also cause us to become dehydrated as you’re missing the water content in food. This can also lead to dry eyes, which can become red. So, the more water you drink the whiter and brighter your eyes will be. What advice would you give to brides looking to achieve that sought after bridal glow? The Collagen Drops are incredible! In the run up to a wedding a bride can use them to get an extra bloom, they’re great for the mother-of-the-bride too. The hair grows gorgeously and gives two inches of growth every month straight away, ideal if you’re looking to achieve that dream up do. It also stops little spots appearing, although we don’t know why, it’s likely because it heals the skin so well. Brides might be prone to breakouts before the wedding, but it stops all of that. It really would be the best product to use before the big day. I’d recommend a two-months supply for a bride or three-month if she’s a little bit older, and for the mother-of-the-bride I’d suggest a monthly subscription. It’s like a club they join so they get free samples as well. It’s also worth knowing that when you’re going through a period of heightened emotions, your body becomes more allergic to things you’d previously coped with. You have more cortisol in your system, which creates these reactions, things like sensitivity to wheat and dairy. So, relax back on those in the build-up to the wedding as these generally cause breakouts. If you’ve got spots forming on the cheeks, it’ll usually mean your lower intestine is affected by wheat or dairy. If you have breakouts on your jaw line this is progesterone caused by reaching for sugary treats when you’re feeling stressed. Also, during these times, a bride might think to grab a coffee to give her more energy, instead of a herbal tea. But this will dehydrate the body, so I tell my brides to remember that for every cup of coffee they drink they’ll need to drink two glasses of water to compensate, which will make you reduce your coffee intake. Finally, don’t go somewhere completely new for a facial the week before the wedding. Since your emotions are heightened, you’ll almost definitely have a reaction, even if you otherwise wouldn’t. I’d test anything up to four weeks before, that way if there’s going to be a sensitivity you’ll know not to have that treatment. Go for a relaxed treatment with products you’ve tried before but if you can’t do that, go to the therapist and ask for little samples of the products they’ll be using allowing you to pre-try them all in one go. If the place you’re going to won’t do that for you, don’t use them. A good therapist will be considerate of you before your wedding and will want the best for you. As we’re now in the season of wonderful autumn weddings, is there any skincare advice you’d offer to brides tying the knot at this time of year? People start to have a lot more milky drinks around October. Even if you’re not allergic to dairy, the volume of them about increases and along with a change to the moisture levels in the air this can cause eczema. So, make sure you cleanse more, not less, to avoid incubating the eczema. This skin complaint is caused by a microbe, not dry skin, which may surprise some. My advice would be to avoid too much milk and to use our Dock Cream, which stops eczema by eating away the microbes that causes it. 70
