Your London Wedding - May/June 2025 (Issue 101)

One of the most ignored features of a wedding could have the biggest impact YOU’RE THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE A factor we don’t always think about with weddings is the lighting, but why would you worry about that when you’ve got cake samples to eat and dresses to try on? However, the lighting on your big day can impact the ambience, the pictures and the overall aesthetic of your wedding. For any fans out there of the TV sitcom Friends, it’s like when Ross added a load of candles to that half-demolished venue for Emily – oh-so romantic! To save your wedding from being dull – literally – experts at Lighting Legends (www. lightinglegends.com) give you some bright ideas on how to make your day stand out... LANTERNS Lanterns offer a soft whimsical light to weddings and are even better for evening ceremonies! They can be used as part of centrepieces or on the ends of pews to light your path to newlywed bliss. This lighting effect is warm and inviting for guests and creates a put-together atmosphere. FAIRYLIGHTS Fairylights are a classic for a reason, and it’s because the light they offer is nothing short of romantic. They’re small and warm but don’t make us feel left in the dark. They can be added to arches, flowers, table runners and can be used as a backdrop for pictures or the head table. FESTOON LIGHTS A step up from fairy, we have festoon lights – these are great for couples hosting their wedding breakfast in a marquee or open space. The larger bulbs give a vintage feel with plenty of warmth. Drape them across the ceiling or in between poles in your marquee, or for outdoor receptions, wrap them around trees and bushes for a fairytale feel. LED CANDLES Anything candlelit is immediately more romantic, so don’t overlook them for your wedding day. Candles offer the perfect amount of light to keep the tone of the day deep and lustful, especially when paired with any of the mentioned lighting options. However, we do recommend sticking with LED candles for safety reasons, especially if you intend to have candles in the centrepieces or down the aisle. UPLIGHTING Uplighting involves placing lights on the floor around the edges of a room and facing them upwards to highlight walls or curtains. This works well for those wanting to achieve a more dramatic evening look or to highlight certain areas of the venue. This style of lighting is perfect for those getting married or celebrating in a large venue, or outside with a marquee. GOBOS A gobo is a template used in lighting to project patterns, designs or images and can be a great way to add a personalised touch to your wedding. Some couples choose custom monograms or dates to be projected on a wall or you could even have constellations projected onto the ceiling. 68
