Following the success of his thriving sister restaurant Amber, it promises to be the perfect setting for pre-wedding date nights! In a departure from his previous ventures, Murat’s menu will be a melting pot of global flavours without borders, influenced by his love of travel and experimentation. Hero dishes will include grilled potato flatbread with homemade cultured butter, mussel skewers with roasted chicken wings in butter sauce, blackened leeks with muhammara and XO sauce, and slow-cooked short rib with date demi-glaze. The self-taught chef grew up in Turkey, where he loved cooking with his grandfather. As a teenager, he moved to London to train as an electrical engineer before making the leap into the food industry, accumulating years of experience in restaurants. A greasy spoon potwashing job led to multiple roles in both the back and front of the house before Murat launched the successful café/bistro Route in Dalston in 2012 (now sold), followed by Amber near Aldgate East in 2018. So, when the team invited me to try the Colonel Saab x Clueless: A Theatrical Dining Experience, I jumped at the chance to enjoy a fabulous night out with my mum. The evening began with a memorable meal at Colonel Saab Trafalgar Square, a celebrated Indian restaurant known for exquisite flavours and modern culinary techniques. The warm, intimate atmosphere is a welcome retreat from the city’s bustle, featuring a stylish bar, lounge, dining space with Firozabad chandeliers, a mezzanine, and two private dining rooms ideal for groups of up to 20 guests. We were treated to an exclusive Clueless-themed three-course menu, complete with amuse-bouche and a cocktail to kick things off. First up was the Chercules Signature Cocktail — a refreshing blend of D’yavol vodka, zesty lime, and fresh raspberries with a heroic twist, followed by the “Ugh, As If!” amuse bouche, a flavour-packed roasted cumin muffin that set the tone beautifully. For starters, I chose “Baldwin’s Favourite” Noor Mahal Chicken Tikka — tender, smoky, and perfectly balanced with creamy dip and zesty lime. My main was “The Paul Rudd Never Ages” Butter Chicken, a boneless chicken in a rich, velvety tomato and cashew gravy. Mildly spiced, subtly sweet and indulgent, it was perfect with naan and rice. To finish, we had “Cher’s Perfect Match” Mishti Doi Cheesecake, a Bengali-style dessert with Bengali lime and jaggery syrup — rich, tangy, and balanced. The staff were a standout throughout. Attentive but never intrusive, they timed each course perfectly and shared the stories behind every dish. After dinner, it was just a five-minute stroll to Trafalgar Theatre for the second part of the experience: Clueless: The Musical. Think full ‘90s nostalgia, punchy one-liners, dreamy outfits, and musical numbers that had everyone bopping along. The theatre’s intimate vibe made it feel like we were right in the middle of the action. Adapted from the beloved film (and loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma), the show transports you to ‘90s Beverly Hills with its mix of sass, style, and heart. The story follows Cher, played by the fabulous Emma Flynn — a stylish, rich, and slightly self-absorbed but well-meaning teenager navigating the ups and downs of high school. With her iconic fashion sense and popularity, she loves matchmaking and makeovers, especially when awkward new girl Tai arrives. But things don’t always go according to plan. Don’t get her started when it comes to her annoying (yet charming) ex-stepbrother Josh, played brilliantly by Keelan McAuley. The production is filled with standout moments — from laugh-out-loud humour to clever choreography by Lizzi Gee, and original music by KT Tunstall that adds a fresh energy to the classic story. And the costumes? Totally buggin’! Think plaid skirts, knee-high socks, and all the Beverly Hills glam you could dream of. Director Rachel Kavanaugh nailed the pacing, striking the perfect balance between fun, fashion, and feels. One of the highlights? Josh’s standout routine had the entire audience cheering. Overall, this was a truly feel-good evening that’s perfect for a girls’ night out filled with laughs, nostalgia, and incredible food. From £95 for both dinner and show, it’s a brilliant way to celebrate with your besties. Book now: https://colonelsaab.co.uk/whats-on/colonel-saab-xclueless-a-theatrical-dining-experience 10

GOINGlocal Fall in love with these stunning properties in Central London THE FITZROVIA CHAPEL 02034 099 895 | www.fitzroviachapel.org Few venues are as captivating as the Fitzrovia Chapel for hosting weddings, celebrations or civil partnerships. Nestled in the heart of London, this intimate and exquisite Grade II-listed building, once the chapel for the Middlesex Hospital, radiates grace, beauty, history and Gothic charm. Couples can exchange their vows beneath the stunning golden ceiling, adorned with hundreds of stars. The chapel’s architect, John Loughborough Pearson, famously asked himself with each design, “Does it send you to your knees?” The breathtaking mosaics, marble and stained glass certainly fulfil that vision, creating a wedding atmosphere that feels both personal and cinematic. The venue is a secular space, meaning that religious ceremonies, blessings or music are not permitted. While they do not offer a formal wedding package, the chapel provides a blank canvas for couples to craft their own unique experience, all while adhering to the registrar’s guidelines and the building’s restrictions. The setting can accommodate 78 seated guests. The rental fee includes hire of the chairs, LED candles, glasses, a drink service and a wedding poster. For smaller gatherings of up to six people, there’s an elopement offer available. A typical two-hour hire allows for half an hour of setup by suppliers, followed by a 30-minute pre-ceremony interview with the registrar for civil ceremonies. Guests are welcome to arrive 30 minutes before the ceremony begins, which itself runs for about 20 minutes, and couples have an additional 40 minutes afterwards for drinks and photographs. For those seeking a longer experience, the chapel staff is happy to discuss extended hire times. It’s important to note that the chapel rental does not include the registrar’s fee, which couples arrange separately through the Westminster Registration Service. 21 LOCAL VENUES

Bold and beautiful Vicky and Alex had a colourful wedding surrounded by loved ones Images courtesy of Sophie Barloc Photography 28

These lovebirds met while travelling in Australia. Vicky had just moved into a shared house in Melbourne, where Alex was already living. It took a bit of time for them to get to know each other, as Vicky worked night shifts at a pub while Alex had an early morning construction job. More often than not, she’d come home to find him snoozing on the sofa. Their first real outing was supposed to be an exciting trip to a techno music event, but they were turned away at the door because they didn’t have the right identification. Instead, they ended up in a Bunnings car park, enjoying a beer and a sausage sizzle while chatting. After a few drinks and playful flirting on the way back, they shared their first kiss. Their mutual sense of adventure – and a bit of silliness – drew them to each other, making it clear they were in for a lot of fun together. In a complete cliché moment, Alex proposed in Paris, right in front of the Eiffel Tower, after they had enjoyed a picnic and a lovely bottle of rosé. He was incredibly nervous, and Vicky had no idea it was coming on this trip, though she had started to suspect something was up when she noticed him fiddling with something in his pocket on the way to the tower. As it turned out, her mum warned him not to drop the ring in a sewer, which made him anxious! They had been looking forward to this trip for ages, especially after having to postpone due to the pandemic. SETTING THE SCENE Although they initially planned to bask in the bliss of being engaged without rushing into wedding planning, Vicky’s Type A personality kicked in. The very next morning, she found herself starting a guest list and researching venues! It quickly became clear that having all their friends and family present on their wedding day was the most important thing to them. With their large families and close-knit friendship groups, they needed a venue that could accommodate a big celebration. The couple had attended several weddings together and discovered a shared preference for venues that exuded a party atmosphere while still maintaining a relaxed vibe. The Depot was just right for them, with its spacious layout and stunning industrial-chic décor. They were particularly drawn to the tall ceilings, exposed brickwork and bohemian touches, which created an inviting ambience. They also liked having guests seated at long tables for the wedding breakfast–rather than smaller individual ones–and The Depot accommodated this perfectly. For wedding favours, Vicky and Alex chose personalised love heart sweets and small bottles of sherry. Sherry held a special place in Vicky’s family traditions, and many guests tried it for the first time! To encourage mingling, the pair opted for long tables, which facilitated conversation and connection among guests. The centrepieces were a vibrant mix of dried flowers arranged in small vases – a DIY project they tackled together. Each table featured time capsule envelopes that represented significant anniversaries. Table two, for instance, symbolised their second wedding anniversary. They planned to collect these envelopes and open them on each anniversary, creating a lovely tradition. For place names, they used vibrant orange and pink cards, while the table names featured places they had lived or travelled together. Their table plan was a creative touch as well, resembling a giant airport departure board, adding a unique flair to the décor. Speaking of decorations, they crafted a stunning backdrop for the vows made from around 700 individually. Guests loved snapping photos in front of it throughout the day. They also had a colourful 29 REAL WEDDINGS

V&A display by the window that lit up the dancefloor, enhancing the festive atmosphere. The flowers, sourced from Bubble and Berry, were colourful dried blooms, with orange as the main theme. Vicky wanted dried flowers so she and her bridesmaids could preserve their bouquets as cherished keepsakes. For catering, The Depot kept things simple with delicious pie and mash. Instead of a traditional cake, the pair opted for 250 Krispy Kreme doughnuts adorned with a personalised orange disco cake topper. These, of course, were a massive hit among the guests! Vicky’s family friend, a cab driver, drove them to the venue in a white London cab decorated with an orange ribbon, making the experience feel even more special. Lastly, the pair found a talented lady on Etsy who created personalised large felt signs with fringed edges. They commissioned a big, colourful ‘Vicky & Alex’ sign for the venue’s fence, adding an extra cool touch to their celebration. LOOKING THE PART Vicky chose a stunning dress called Adore by Justin Alexander. She was looking for something lacy, but not overly detailed in the front, and it was important to her that the dress flattered her curvier figure. To complete her look, she accessorised with dried flowers in her hair, heart-shaped pearl earrings and a lovely gold heart bracelet. She felt absolutely radiant, and everything came together perfectly! Alex and the groomsmen all wore navy suits paired with colourful floral shirts from Hawes & Curtis that really made them stand out. The bridesmaids were a lovely sight, wearing different satin orange dresses, with one even opting for a stylish jumpsuit. The whole ensemble created a beautiful and harmonious look for the special day! TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple had a saxophonist at their celebration, and he was an absolute hit! They also set up a photo booth that everyone seemed to adore. At first, the lovebirds both felt quite nervous, especially when the photographer arrived, but that nervousness quickly gave way to giggles during their ceremony. Vicky’s aunt, a celebrant, added an extra touch of warmth and familiarity, making it even more special. The speeches were brilliant; everyone truly shone. They were filled with emotion and laughter, with hilarious stories that had everyone in stitches. What really made the day unforgettable was the presence of the couple’s friends, many of whom they had lived with during their time in Melbourne. Loved ones had traveled from all corners of the globe–Australia, America, New Zealand and Mexico–to be there. It felt magical to see everyone again, knowing they had journeyed so far just for their special day. HONEYMOON The newlyweds spent a few beautiful days in Porto after their wedding, soaking in the laid-back atmosphere where they could relax, eat, drink and unwind. One of the highlights was a visit to the Douro Valley, where they learned about Porto’s rich history and indulged in some delicious wine. They felt fortunate to have experienced this mini-moon but were also looking forward to their upcoming honeymoon. The couple had always wanted to attend Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and they were thrilled to check it off their bucket list. Their itinerary also included stops in Austin, Memphis, Nashville and Orlando! REAL WEDDINGS 31
