Your Kent Wedding -September/October 2020 (Issue 92)

FLOWERS 67 HELLO Kent’s floral designers give away their professional wisdom and secrets for pulling off breathtaking wedding-day blooms  petal ! F lowers are absolutely integral to shaping your big-day theme, and can’t help but bring an air of romance to proceedings. Whether you’re all for the more is more approach, or prefer a minimalist interpretation, you might have some burning questions when it comes to this element of your to-do list. So, we’ve rounded up some of the county’s talented wedding florists to offer some assistance. CROWNING GLORY I like the idea of a flower crown. Can I pull it off? Absolutely you can! Anyone can pull of a flower crown; you just have to choose your look wisely. Small and delicate or big and bold, make sure it ties in with the general look and feel that you’ve already based your wedding on. You could even go for a two-look approach, wearing flowers in your hair in the evening, once you’ve put your bouquet down for a rest. You could even consider decorating your cake with a floral crown, so that once it’s been cut, you can pop the blooms in your hair for a whole new evening look. Hannah Churcher, Peachy Blooms @peachy_blooms_ www.smi leyhuseyinphotography.com UNDER THE INFLUENCE Should my dress have a bearing on my choice of bouquet? As every wedding I create is a one-off, unique to each couple, I always ask to see images of the wedding dress to ensure that the style and colour of the flowers work well, complementing the silhouette, without overwhelming it or hiding any intricate detailing. I draw inspiration from nature and recommend seasonal flowers. Taking the colour and shape of the gown into consideration when creating the bouquet design, means the size and type of flowers will co-ordinate, and importantly look absolutely beautiful in the photos.  Michele Wraight, Flowerart www.flowerartflorist.co.uk WINTER WONDERLAND I’m getting married in the winter, what big-day bloom options are available? This season has it all - flowers widely available at this time of year include roses, anemones, ranunculus and our personal favourites, hellebores. Mix any of these gorgeous blooms with seasonal berries such as cranberries, winterberries or juniper berries and beautifully textured foliage like dusty miller, fern, berried ivy or eucalyptus, to make the perfect combination for a showstopping bouquet. If you love texture, why not add catkins, dried grasses, pinecones, budding branches or even succulents to your bouquets and floral displays for that extra wow factor? Sarah Gibbons, Orchard Blooms Wedding & Events Florist www.orchardblooms.co.uk www.jack sonandcophotography.com GET CREATIVE I'd like a bouquet that I can keep forever. What can you suggest? A hand-crafted bouquet using recycled and repurposed materials would be the perfect solution. This allows you to step away from the ordinary and have an individual piece made especially for you to reflect your personality and theme, as well as being conscious of sustainability. I work in collaboration with you to create bouquets, buttonholes and flower crowns from wool felt and buttons according to your theme and designed exactly to your preferences. If you want dinosaurs or Star Wars characters in your bouquet, go for it! Charlotte Laurie, Charlotte Laurie Designs www.charlottelauriedesigns.co.uk httpbigfishphotography.com
