Spring has always been one of my favourite times of year; it’s a season that naturally lends itself to new beginnings – longer days, lighter moods, and lots of beautiful weddings. Fresh colour palettes begin to emerge, new ideas take shape, and the latest trends start to set the tone for the year ahead. This is the time when designers unveil their newest collections, suppliers shift into full wedding-season mode, and wedding shows return with energy and excitement. There’s a real buzz in the air, and it’s a wonderful moment to be a bride-to-be, surrounded by inspiration at every turn. LOVE Timeless Family treasures, vibrant décor, and meaningful customs shine in Suzanne and Spencer’s countryside celebration Images courtesy of Robert Christopher Photography Suzanne and Spencer met on Christmas Day in 2012 through family friends. “I grew up with his sisters, but this was the first time I’d met him,” says Suzanne. “After five years of flirting and dancing back and forth, we finally decided to make a go of it.” Their relationship soon blossomed, and Spencer later proclaimed his love by proposing during a trip away to celebrate his nan’s 90th birthday. A church venue was very important to the couple, as they wanted a classic and traditional feel to their wedding day. They chose Luddesdowne Church for the ceremony and hired a marquee from Cobham Marquees for the reception, which was set up at Luddesdown Village Hall. “The church and village hall are steeped in history, and the area is surrounded by rolling vineyards,” shares the bride. “The traditional Kentish countryside provided a beautifully simple backdrop for the day.” Suzanne envisioned a simple yet colourful country garden theme, accented with vintage touches. She incorporated a mirror that had belonged to her grandparents, vintage suitcases from her great-grandparents, and tablecloths and vases that once belonged to her nan. “They’re no longer here, so I wanted to make them part of the day,” adds Suzanne. Bud vases were used to decorate the tables for a simple yet effective look, paired with flowers and chandeliers. For favours, guests received personalised fans and bottle openers, while Star Creations supplied personalised cookies and individual gift bags for the children. Catering was provided by Chop & Chip Co. “They were absolutely fantastic,” says Suzanne. “Everybody loved it, with many guests going back for extra helpings. Making sure everyone was well fed with good food was a top priority for us.” Suzanne wore a classic ballgown called Matera from WED2B, a clean and timeless style that perfectly suited the traditional theme. She wore her aunt’s pearl bracelet as her something borrowed, paired with pearl earrings and a hair comb, and completed the look with a stunning cathedral-length lace veil. Spencer opted for a morning suit from Slater Menswear, styled with a grey and blue tie. To complement the overall look, Suzanne’s bridesmaids wore gowns in varying styles and colours from Ever Pretty, each carrying matching bouquets. Entertainment was provided by DJ Tailor B, who kept the dancefloor full throughout the evening, alongside a photo booth from Robert Christopher Photography. “Our first dance was interrupted by our friend, a Zimbabwean artist, who surprised us by singing a medley of his songs to kick-start the party,” adds Suzanne. On the day, the couple felt both nervous and excited to begin their new chapter together as a family. “There were so many standout moments, but one of our favourites was the traditional Zimbabwean singing in the church and the cultural customs we incorporated,” says Suzanne. “It was a wonderful mix of both our cultures. Spencer’s 90-year-old nan made sure she got up to dance with us both – she even held her walking stick in the air! His family also delivered some incredibly heartwarming and funny speeches.” Planning a wedding can be stressful, so Suzanne shares her top planning tip: “Keep a log of everything, sketch out décor plans, and visit your venue to make sure your ideas will work on the day. When the day arrives, relax and enjoy it – whatever does or doesn’t go to plan won’t matter. Just soak it all in.” REAL WEDDINGS 25

Zoë and Luke met in school as teenagers. They dated on and off until they were 20 and 21, when they realized they were truly meant to be. Their love blossomed, and in 2023, Luke proposed during a trip to Norway. He transformed their hotel room into a dream setting with balloons, roses, candles, flower petals, Champagne, and a tray of chocolates and strawberries. Across the window, balloons spelled out a heartfelt message asking Zoë to marry him. He presented her with a custommade engagement ring from Celsteel. “It was everything I could ever have dreamed of,” says Zoë. “A public proposal would have been my absolute nightmare.” The couple instantly fell in love with The Orangery and chose it as their wedding venue. “It’s simply breathtaking, from the award-winning gardens to the choice of ceremony spaces, décor, and staff,” Zoë adds. “I couldn’t fault a single thing.” They embraced a black-and-white colour scheme for the décor. The gentlemen wore black suits or tuxedos, and the women wore elegant black evening wear. The only people in white were the bride and the flowergirl. The theme was simplicity and timeless elegance. To bring their vision to life, the couple chose monochrome stationery from Forever Paper Co, featuring a minimalistic design with wax seals and printed envelopes. White florals by Floral Explosion completed the look, enhancing both the venue and the theme. The décor included candelabras, candles, single vases with white roses, and banquetstyle tables – designed to make the band the heart of the room. REAL WEDDINGS 37
Zoë wore the Larissa gown by Madison James, purchased from The Dressing Rooms Bridal. “I paired it with a pearl-trimmed veil, custom-made sleeves from The Bridal Boutique of Jules, and Jimmy Choo shoes,” she says. “I saw the dress on Pinterest and instantly knew it was the one.” Luke chose a custom-made velvet tuxedo from Well Suited in Manston, Kent. The bridesmaids kept their look simple and elegant in satin cowl-neck, floor-length dresses from Pretty Lavish. The couple delighted their guests with a string quartet, performing during the ceremony and cocktail hour. They also invited Spencer Wood Magic, whose incredible tricks enchanted everyone. “Our guests still talk about him now,” Zoë says. “Afterwards, The Function Band welcomed everyone into the reception room and played throughout dinner and late into the evening.” The day was everything the couple had imagined. “It was magical from start to finish,” Zoë reflects. “From marrying my childhood love, having my son as our ring bearer, to seeing my vision for the day come to life – it was all so special.” After planning such a perfect day, Zoë and Luke share their top tips. “Get used to spreadsheets,” Zoë laughs. “Use them for your budget, timeline, supplier contacts, and helpers on the day. Invest in good suppliers – especially the ones that capture memories. I’m so grateful for our photographers and videographer. The day really does go by in a flash. I couldn’t remember anything from the ceremony room, and the reception was a blur. You’re so full of adrenaline that you don’t take it all in. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve looked through our photos and watched our video. Without them, I wouldn’t have these treasured memories to relive.” 38
