Checklist Gather a small group to take with you. The larger the group, the more opinions, and the more confusing it becomes. Tan more than 24 hours before. You’ll feel better about yourself if you’ve got a lick of tan on you, so make sure you bronze at least 24 hours before. Also ensure you shower before your appointment, so you aren’t staining the lovely gowns! Do your make-up and hair ahead of the appointment. So, you can get a feel for how you will look on the day, do your hair and make-up before trying on dresses. You’re going to want an easy hairstyle that won’t get caught in the dress and reach for the waterproof mascara – who knows how you’ll feel when you find the one. Nude underwear. This perhaps go without saying but wear underwear that can go undetected under most gowns. Get your nails and toes done and wear easy to slip off shoes. Having your nails and toes done always makes you feel more put together, pair this with your tan, hair, and make-up and you’ll be onto a winner. Don’t force it! You might not find the one on your first visit, so don’t be disheartened. It’s all about trying different styles and not giving up – there will be one that gives you that magical feeling. Set a budget. Much like picking your venue, you need to have a rough budget in mind, so you don’t blow it all on one thing. Give yourself an easy number to work around and rejoice if it comes under budget! Don’t forget accessories. If you are hoping to add a tiara, belt or any other accessory to your wedding look, then don’t forget to enquire on the day. They could make or break the whole look! Consider your venue. Your dress needs to fit in with the style of venue you are getting married in. Tying the knot al fresco in a woodland area? Go for something whimsical/ bohemian. Saying ‘I do’ in a manor house? Go for a sleek, elegant silhouette. Allow time for alterations. Make sure you are starting your wedding dress hunt at least nine months before the big day, as it’s likely you will need alterations. This isn’t something you want to skimp out on – you get to wear this dress for one day; it needs to look like it was made for you. Bring your wedding shoes with you. If you already have your wedding shoes or at least know the height of shoe you will be wearing – bring something that reflects the height you’ll be on the day. Keep an open mind. You will likely be asked to try on dresses that you haven’t picked out, keep an open mind when doing so. A lot of brides find that their dream dresses are ones they never would have considered! Trust your gut and communicate. Remember that this appointment is for you to find your dream dress. If something doesn’t feel right or someone in your entourage is making you unhappy, then speak up. unsplash.com.@marijeane unsplash.com.@sobolivska 50
