CAKES 51 Let’s look back at the cake trends of 2024 and check out what’s on the 2025 horizon If you’re a foodie like me, then one of the best bits of any wedding is finding out what flavour combos the newlyweds have selected for their big-day bake. Personally, you’re a fruitcake if you go for anything involving liquor, but I know a lot of our boozy couples out there would disagree! It’s also interesting to see how bakers are being asked to decorate the chosen bakes; so what trends are we leaving in 2024 and what ones can we expect to see more of in 2025? Baking me crazy ALL SHAPES AND SLICES We believe the cake trends being left in 2024 are the doughnut towers and the cake tables. These are being replaced by elegant, tiered cakes in varying shapes and sizes. Buttercream cakes are, of course, still very popular for taste and budget and are requested more than novelty style wedding cakes. In 2025 we are seeing a strong rise in smaller cakes to complement the popular micro-weddings. But who knows where this year could go! www.allshapesandslices.co.uk @allshapescake WILLOW CAKES ASHFORD Last year the most popular cakes were small traditional cakes with lots of cupcakes; we think that couples thought it was easier for guests to take home and made great displays. Surprisingly, this year we aren’t seeing as many orders for these! A vast majority of our wedding cakes this year are semi-naked, and we are also seeing fruitcakes with vintage icing – we are really excited to see this style and flavour come back, as you really can’t beat the classics. It’s interesting to see how, much like fashion, these things always find a way to come back around, and then being replaced again by the ‘next big thing’. www.willowcakesashford.com willow.cakesashford@yahoo.com
