6 33 9 Elise and Cameron’s dream day Explore wedding venues in your area! What’s new in the world of love? 21 As spring rears its head and summer feels closer than ever, you’re bound to see more flowers around. I’m sure we can all agree that the desire to frolic through a flower field has crossed our minds. Perhaps not, but the films do make it look marvellous! In theory, this beautiful moment would make you feel like the main character in a rom-com. In practise? You’re a snotty mess scrambling for the hay fever tablets. But this desire to be amongst the wildflowers is making its way into weddings, through the theme of fairytales and fanciful parties. Elise and Cameron Dalzell got this theme down to an artform, for their wedding in August 2024. Pictured in this section (right), you can see them sharing a warm embrace amongst some cow parsley — sigh...oh to be held in a wildflower field. But how can you incorporate this and other 2025 trends into your wedding? In this issue we dive into the rise of short dresses, how to bring your sparkle through jewellery, and what your bridesmaids can do to look the part on your special day. However, Katherine Elizabeth Millinery has created a gorgeous new line of hats that you’ll want to wear again and again. All the pieces are hand-sewn in the Kent or London workshop – giving that extra special feel for your extra special day. Katherine says, “I take my inspiration from sculptural art, architecture, and nature, pulling all of these elements together in my designs. To me, a hat isn’t something you should wear because you feel you have to; I design hats to empower and give confidence to the wearer. I believe every hat should be a sculpture that enhances both your features and your outfit”. Why not mark special occasions by booking one of the millinery afternoon teas? The milliner will travel to a preferred location in Kent or London, equipped with tea and cake, and they’ll teach a group the art of hat making with ageold-techniques. These are wonderful experiences for bridal showers and can be tailored to each bride. COBHAM HALL 01474 823 371| www.cobhamhall.com/venue-hire Surrounded by 150 acres of parkland, once landscaped by Humphry Repton, on approach the historic Cobham Hall emerges from the trees and is one of England’s finest historic country houses. Over the centuries distinguished people have spent time at Cobham, Elizabeth I visited and Charles I spent a night of his honeymoon at the hall; while Charles Dickens often passed through the park and stopped to visit his friend the Earl of Darnley! Sir Joshua Reynolds, Gainsborough, The Duke of Wellington, George VI, Queen Victoria, Nellie Melba and many others were guests. Now a wedding venue and an independent school, this is your opportunity to add your name to its prestigious list of visitors. Did you know that Cobham Hall was the original home of The Ashes and a key part of cricket history? The Ashes took pride of place on the mantelpiece of what is now known as The Old Library. Whilst it is used almost universally in media coverage of test cricket between England and Melbourne, for many, the urn is a symbol for the romantic love story between the 8th Earl of Darnley and the charming girl from Melbourne. Only 28 miles from central London and within easy reach of the A2, M2, M20 and M25 Cobham Hall is perfectly situated close to all major road networks while enjoying a picturesque and tranquil setting. Offering both indoor and outdoor ceremony options for couples looking to tie the knot here, Cobham can also host your wedding breakfast and evening entertainment meaning your wedding day can take place all under one roof! SUMMER LOVING Elise and Cameron bring together ‘vintage with summer garden’ for their picture-perfect wedding Images courtesy of Craig Goode Cameron, from Northern Ireland, and Elise, from Kent, met for the first time at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where they both attended. Their shared subject and mutual friends pushed fate to seat them next to each other. However, it wasn’t until they met the second time on a night out that the romance started. Sparks flew and Elise thought Cameron, “was very good looking and loved how confident he was”. Cameron shared her enthusiasm claiming, “Elise was really pretty and funny”. The couple have now been together nine years and are ready to share their beautiful story. Cameron popped the question in Stockholm, November 2023. Elise shares that it was a complete surprise and recalls, “He made me walk out into the Djurgarden (Deer Garden) with all the autumn trees and colours and when I turned around, he had the ring out. It was so special, and I had no idea he had been carrying it around with him the whole time.” The ring was on, and the date was set, but how did their wedding on the 10th of August 2024 look at St Mary’s Church Ide Hill? Here, Elise tells us all about it... REAL WEDDINGS 33
The bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets, flower arch, pedestal, and mantlepiece arrangement were provided by Flower & Glory in Sevenoaks and perfectly embodied the summer garden theme. The table plan consisted of seven circle tables with a matching top table, which created a relaxed atmosphere for everyone. The centrepieces consisted of flowers in a mix of vintage plain and coloured glass vases, along with long stem candles in warm colours to complement the pink and oranges in the colour scheme. The flower centrepieces were comprised of flowers from family and friends’ gardens. Having grown up in Sevenoaks, I knew St Mary’s Ide Hill was in a peaceful and secluded location that would be the perfect backdrop to our dream day. I wanted to encapsulate the summer garden theme with the picturesque nobility of a church. Our reception was hosted at St Julians Club – it was ideal for further conveying our summer garden theme! I’m an illustrator, so I designed all the wedding stationery! I covered everything from the save the dates, invites, menu, placenames and the seating plan, along with the welcome board. 34
When it came to my dress, I knew I wanted something unique! It was a lot harder than I thought, but it worked out amazingly and Hannah did an amazing job of bringing my vision to life. I had my hair in two plaits, joined in the middle with a bridal hair accessory laid on top from Jane Bourvis, something my mum found for me second hand! I found old hymn numbers in a French antique store and used these for table numbers. I painted little wooden cube as holders in a dusty/dark pink. I also bought a range of coloured fabric and ripped the sheets into pieces to tie on to the wisteria in the glasshouse room. We of course had to go with a red Ford Mustang as our getaway car! I had my dress custom-made by Hannah Svedberg of For Elvin Design using pieces of my mum’s vintage Laura Ashley wedding dress and other vintage Laura Ashley wedding dresses that my mum had in her collection. I wanted something I felt comfortable in and had a whimsical flowy vibe with details of lace. We went for a three-tiered wedding cake; bottom layer raspberry and vanilla, middle layer lemon and poppyseed, and the third layer red velvet. The cake had a minimalistic design with off-white buttercream and edible flowers to fit the theme. 35 REAL WEDDINGS
We had a ceilidh band which everyone loved and had a chance to get involved in. We prefer this over a DJ as there is someone calling the moves instead of an intimidating dancefloor with no structure. My brother drove to my parents’ house to collect it, so we could have the confetti walk out of the church. We made people wait outside but it was worth it, and the pictures are some of my favourites. A moment we will both cherish is my dad’s speech. A heartfelt moment captured in time. Exchanging our vows, as well as the confetti walk out of the church were special moments. Cameron felt a little nervous but mostly excited and extremely happy to have all his friends and family celebrate with them. I felt overwhelmed with joy. It’s something you plan for so long and when the day comes it doesn’t feel real. My bridesmaids wore simple dusky pink silk dresses in matching styles. Cameron wore a lovely, light-brown linen, doublebreasted suit from John Lewis paired with a green and maroon striped tie. The groomsmen were in matching, single breasted suits with green ties adorned with white polka dots on them – they matched the dots on the skirt of my wedding dress. 36
